Here's a PowerShell script that'll use ffmpeg to compress MOVs during the small hours (you can obviously change the target file types and run time to whatever you want). Set a scheduled task to kick it off at midnight and it'll automatically stop processing files at the hour you specify. I find that a CRF of 29 still results in more than good enough video quality. I target MOVs because that's what people dump off their iPads.

We use Microsoft's Always-On VPN for school laptops which works brilliantly (there's a bug in W10 v1709 with device-only tunnels, but user tunnels work well) and is far far easier for the users than RAv3. For remote access on personal devices we deploy web-based RDP using Microsoft RDWeb. Staff can get a school desktop environment in their browser. I still use RAv3 for admin stuff, but I don't care that it's a bit weird!

This is what we do - if "*encrypt*" is in the subject or body it gets encrypted. We have problems with certain pond life at the LA that say they can't work out how to open them, despite the fact they did it each time before after sending the guide. Other than that, it works wonderfully.

Or you convince the LA to shell out for all-new IT for your new build, and then negotiate a good enough price on IFPs that you can afford to put them in all of the classrooms. No, I don't know how we got approval for that either.

I tend to find that PS is rubbish....

They would still be able to submit further requests in writing to the school, or via WhatDoTheyKnow. We block plenty of spammer domains outright (nothing to do with FOI), if blocking emails was illegal then we'd all be in jail I think. I would also only do this once the initial FOI request was handled and closed. Also, any domains blocked for spam (as opposed to phishing) get the SCL set to 9, which means they end up in Junk Mail, rather than being quarantined.

Are you flying? Remember to get to the airport early (earlier than you think you could ever need to) just in case. Particularly with teenagers in tow! Double-check baggage allowances and pay for any over-weight bags before you get to the airport if possible - it's cheaper. Most airlines have web-based check-in which will save a queue. Boiled sweets do wonders for anyone who has trouble with ear pressure differentials - I personally go for sherbet lemons or Werther's.

Exactly. Seems like it wouldn't take too long to respond to - particularly if you don't have a managed print contract, in which case most answers will be "N/A". Doesn't stop you sending all his company's sales pitches to the bit bucket! Abusing FOI (and if this is for lead generation, this is abuse - FOI wasn't intended for this) should be better policed - perhaps a 'requester blacklist' managed by the ICO would work.

Same here, although I manually specify the PC name (because I have my own weird naming scheme for them based on model) and OU (so that it can just pick up the relevant software and be ready-to-go). Best feeling ever is imaging a bunch of new machines and having them all just ready to go.

Get rid of Admin and Curric networks with all haste. Nuke 'em from orbit. It made sense in the 1990s because the security options available in Windows weren't as robust as they are now. These days they make less than zero sense - they make everything harder.

I knew MDT beforehand, I used the Win 7 guide linked earlier in the thread. I referred to this for anything Win 10 specific. Basically: grab vanilla WIM, apply WIM to a VM, do customisations, sysprep and capture, do any fiddling you want to with the offline WIM (like customising the login screen text, that Windows won't let you do when its running), deploy a test, deploy for real.

Yup, only way to do it. I bake MS Office into the image purely as every machine will need it and why bother deploying it afterwards, but all other things are done by GPO/script depending on OU.

My local one tends to put it in the 'history' section.... unless they don't, at which point it could be anywhere. And good luck asking anyone about it... I think I'm just gonna get us a subscription and be done with it!

I can't recall the exact button, but there'll be something along the lines of "show details" or "show trace" on the SIMS error dialog. Click this and you should get the stack trace.

I believe they give you a new one for a different LA, because the three-digit code at the end is different. e.g. I started in Croydon (blahblah.306), and am now in Hounslow (blahblah.313)

It is. The signal can get reflected off the walls causing destructive (or just plain confounding) interference. Also, general recommendation - get double the number of network points you could ever conceivably need. You'll need them one day, trust me.

As long as they don't shut the ones in airports. It's not a proper flight without some cheap-o WHSmith sweets and a weird magazine.

That's a little worrying, as the Soyuz is the only way of getting people to the ISS until they approve whatever SpaceX has come up with (the Dragon something or other?).
