A more accurate title would be emPSN issues. Yeah I’m another school in Lincolnshire affected by this. What made the situation more confusing was 20mins prior to this a nasstar engineer was on site to upgrade our internet to 1Gbps when they had to cancel the install because they couldn’t access the exchange. So when they left and the internet went I started worrying they had disconnected us or something! Took about 30mins of diagnosis before calling emPSN and finding out it’s on their side! What a relief! But also a pain! It’s a shame they left the issue sitting overnight, when I called they had an engineer booked for 11am but they was going to try and get there earlier. I see in the update they have wiped the Cisco OS and started over. I’ve been checking and the internet is still down.

Thanks, I have contacted John to see what can be done with licensing I will also look at azure AD sync. out Active Directory uses firstname.lastname where as student emails are [email protected] would this sync up still?

Everything is horribly out of date here. I took over in 2018 and have been trying to upgrade us since. The old headmaster was against technology everything was paper based. up to 2016 I believe! So computer and OS purchases have been through the likes of ebuyer. we have had the same MS 2007 for years. When i purchased a new server in 2019 We bought individual licenses user cals, core cals e.t.c as needed through the supplier. I think we have had the A1 Pro Plus 365 for a while though which is free. I don't fully understand what I have been quoted, I understood it would cover us for Windows 10 upgrades, windows server licensing and allow us to use 365 on school computers. He suggested that it is activated upon logging in.

I don't have Azure though. With A1 Pro Plus. Doesn't the student/Staff only get 5 activation's? meaning they would have to remove devices if they went on more than 5 different computers in the school? or does it automatically swap them out when you sign onto another?

So we are still running MS 2007 in school. as everyone has been running 365 at home and some in there offices. We ideally now need to make it uniform and use the latest MS in classrooms. Do I need to look at buying standalone 2019 licenses. or can I get a 365 license to allow installing on school computers that will have unlimited activation no matter how many different computers a student logs onto? We currently have the 365 A1 Pro Plus for students and faculty. I was speaking to a company about a Microsoft agreement 3 year license and they mentioned the following "Included in that deal is a licences for all of your FTE’s and Students. This means when user logs on they can activate the licence for there session. With having these you’ll be able to install the full office suit onto machines they then become activated once a user logs in. I'm concerned as the salesman previously said they didn't know much about MS licensing and the person who did had left. Any Help on this would be appreciated.

Thanks for the info everyone. I am definitely going to move to just the one network now once I bring the new server in. I had a feeling way more could be done to protect.

Okay so the school is running two networks an admin office network and a education network for computer rooms and classrooms this was designed so that user account elevation wouldn’t be a security risk to the sensitive info on the admin network. Their are talks now about merging the network together again with new windows 2016 servers. Should I advise against this. Or if I move all seanative info into hidden network folders (as they should anyway) should this be okay are their extra measures that I can take to protect against this type of elevated attack?
