YouTube error "You're offline. Check your connection."
sigma replied to drewp's topic in Internet Related/Filtering/Firewall
Oddly, I had it briefly at home. At the end of last year. At the time, a refresh fixed it and. YouTube played normally. -
I've replaced our ISP Keyword Block List with our own so that we more closely conform to KCSIE 2023. This is not a Keyword Block list in the true Netsweeper sense, but a Netsweeper Shared List with Wholeword, Multiple Wholeword and Multiple Keyword (Netsweeper definitions) entries, in the manner of the ISP's list. I always look at the report from the previous day in order to explain why words that "appear to be blocked", that are not on the list show as blocked. Usually, this is because there is a pattern match in one of the appended parameters, and I thought I'd largely eliminated this in our new list, with the exception of this example: hxxps://www.google.co.uk/search?q=save+the+butterflies+poster&tbm=isch&ved= 2ahUKEwiDxdfi0If6AhVRSxoKHbq5DOUQ2-cCegQIABAA&oq=save+the+butt&gs_lcp=CgNpbWcQARgAMgUIABCABDIFCAAQgAQyBQgAEIAEMg YIABAeEAUyBggAEwLjQuNy0xmAEAoAEBqgELZ3dzLXdpei1pbWfA AQE&sclient=img&ei=xSYbY8POCdGWabrzsqgO&bih=722&bi w=1536&surl=1&safe=active&ssui=on Where the user has predictive search and has got as far as keying in the word "butt" and then auto complete has completed "butterfly", but the words actually keyed in form part of the search &oq= search string and so it was blocked. (NB. The word butt is no longer blocked as a single word). My new issue concerns the following which was blocked yesterday: hxxps://www.google.co.uk/complete/search?q=tea&cp=3&client=gws-wiz&xssi=t&gs_pcrt=undefined&hl=en-GB&authuser=0&psi=dm2mZb_ 5872&dpr=1&pq=quizizz%20join&safe=active&surl=1 I can't find any documentation, but looking at logs, I think the &pq= parameter is "previous query", which as it was a blocked term (pupils are not allowed to search to join random quizizz quizzes with random strangers), caused a false positive block of the search for "tea". I've never noticed this before. I'm thinking the device might be an iPad in this instance, and have no idea if that would make a difference. Does anyone know?
-
My thoughts exactly. Thanks for the confirmation.

I've had a nag from a governor about ripplesuicideprevention.com I'm not sure how useful this would be within KCSIE as it seems to take pupils directly to prior unnamed outside agencies and is only functional within a browser. Does anyone else have this installed, and what do you think of it?

I would try to contact local schools first, but maybe also Bristol City FC?

Do you know “know” it’s a device in your school? Since New Year, I have had a device that’s not from our school showing up in our Netsweeper reports. It’s been trying to access web proxies through all of our transparent (non client) proxies. Now blocked in Netsweeper by IP Addy. You could try that and see who shouts? We are on SBB’s Netsweeper. They are not bothered about it.
-
Has anyone else found other users (totally non-school related) getting blocked in their school's ISP hosted web filter? They got blocked trying to access web proxies, so I was always going to notice. I've blocked the IP addy in the filter now, but it’s still very active getting constantly blocked. It’s from an EU based IONOS IP addy and I think there's a good chance it’s an XBOX. Some of the urls it’s trying to access have a county indicator of PH - Philippines? Maybe that's the actual origin? Anyway, our ISP are not bothered by it, and I've had to exclude its activity from my usual reports as there are so many entries, and set up a separate report for it. I am bothered by it. I feel we are accountable and there's nothing I can do about it.

We did. We've made a permanent (concrete kerbing) cut from the ditch to the road as a divert from the garden plus other barriers installed to divert water away from low bi-fold doors that October's flood were lapping around, plus earthworks in the field (not ours) of the kind that you might have built as a kid on the beach. We had to have the transformer that serves our house changed before Christmas, and the UK Power Networks equipment got stuck in mud in the field for over an hour before it could even get to the electricity pole its mounted on. We were very lucky. There were other staff that unfortuanately had their homes properly flooded back in October.
-
We had to repair the mud trench and barrier we dug in the field behind us to deep the water flowing down the field rather than into our garden that we dug in October. The ditch reached capacity but did not breach this time. The field behind still has a pond at the bottom that we’ve never seen before that has stayed for over 2 months now.

Blooklet - Blank dashboard behind Smoothwall
sigma replied to tg12's topic in Internet Related/Filtering/Firewall
Blooket used to get abused. Our pupils are blocked from creating or logging into accounts at school. They can only join a game by using a code issued by a teacher. They are blocked from searching for game codes at school. Inappropriate nicknames still happen from time to time. -
A good move, but please, no return to ‘hard’ loo roll of the Izal or Bronco types.

We have Netsweeper and Impero. In Netsweeper, scratch.mit.edu is decrypted. In Netsweeper it is: scratch.mit.edu/studio scratch.mit.edu/projects are both blocked. scratch.mit.edu/projects/editor/ Allowed The allow in Netweeper overrides the block. Generally I think this would equate to: *.scratch.mit.edu/studio.* *.scratch.mit.edu/projects.* are both blocked. *.scratch.mit.edu/projects/editor/* Allowed Pupils don't need accounts for this and can download/upload their work.
-
We have blocked scratch studio and scratch projects because of persitant game playing. Pupils can still use online scratch for their own coding.

With WSUS I set all the disruptive activity overnight for desktops. For laptops that can’t WOL, I drip updates through singly. All of that after having tested the updates on the IT team for a week first.

I'm not a Securely or Chromebook user, but have been building an SSL Inspection bypass list for other reasons. Here's a reference and extract. Adding some of these to an SSL inspection bypass list as appropriate may help: Chromeos only https://support.google.com/chrome/a/answer/6334001?hl=en For ChromeOS and Chrome Browser Cloud Management devices to work on a domain with TLS inspection (also known as SSL inspection), some hostnames need to be exempt from inspection. This is because certificates can only be imported at the user level and are only honored for user-level traffic. Some device-level traffic doesn’t use the TLS or SSL certificate to protect users against certain kinds of security risks. To ensure that devices work with TLS inspection or networks restricting external traffic, you need to allow the following hostnames on your proxy server. Hostname allowlist for all ChromeOS and Chrome Browser Cloud Management devices *.1e100.net1 accounts.google.com accounts.google.[country]2 accounts.gstatic.com accounts.youtube.com alt*.gstatic.com3 chromeos-ca.gstatic.com chromeosquirksserver-pa.googleapis.com clients1.google.com clients2.google.com clients3.google.com clients4.google.com clients2.googleusercontent.com cloudsearch.googleapis.com commondatastorage.googleapis.com cros-omahaproxy.appspot.com dl.google.com dl-ssl.google.com enterprise-safebrowsing.googleapis.com firebaseperusertopics-pa.googleapis.com *.googleusercontent.com *.gvt1.com gweb-gettingstartedguide.appspot.com m.google.com mtalk.google.com omahaproxy.appspot.com pack.google.com policies.google.com printerconfigurations.googleusercontent.com safebrowsing-cache.google.com safebrowsing.google.com safebrowsing.googleapis.com sb-ssl.google.com scone-pa.clients6.google.com ssl.gstatic.com storage.googleapis.com tools.google.com http://www.googleapis.com http://www.gstatic.com youtubeeducation.com -
We get “Luke” for insulation. I have had the washing machine one recently but when I ask which one, they hang up. Yesterday I had the ‘problem with your computer’, couldn’t tell me which computer, and immediately phoned me back from different numbers each time I hung up on them - three times. The last time they were particularly abusive.

I note from HP's website: https://support.hp.com/gb-en/drivers/hp-elitedesk-800-35w-g4-desktop-mini-pc/21353727 That they offer the exact same Synaptic Audio driver for Win 10 and Win 11: 8.65.319.200 Rev.A Is that what you have? If not try it. OPERATING SYSTEM(S): Microsoft Windows 10 version 1803 (64-bit) Microsoft Windows 10 version 1809 (64-bit) Microsoft Windows 10 version 1903 (64-bit) Microsoft Windows 10 version 1909 (64-bit) Microsoft Windows 10 version 2004 (64-bit) Microsoft Windows 10 version 20H2 (64-bit) Microsoft Windows 10 version 21H1 (64-bit) Microsoft Windows 10 version 21H2 (64-bit) Microsoft Windows 10 version 22H2 (64-bit) Microsoft Windows 11 version 21H2 (64-bit) Microsoft Windows 11 version 22H2 (64-bit) Microsoft Windows 11 version 23H2 (64-bit) Windows 10 IoT Enterprise 2019 LTSC 64-bit They also offer a previous version which would also be worth trying as its a somewhat larger file: 8.65.319.170 Rev.A (Win 10 and 11) OPERATING SYSTEM(S): Microsoft Windows 10 version 21H1 (64-bit) Microsoft Windows 10 version 20H2 (64-bit) Microsoft Windows 10 version 2004 (64-bit) Microsoft Windows 10 version 1909 (64-bit) Microsoft Windows 10 version 1903 (64-bit) Microsoft Windows 10 version 1809 (64-bit) Microsoft Windows 10 version 1803 (64-bit) Windows 10 IoT Enterprise 2019 LTSC 64-bit Microsoft Windows 11 version 21H2 (64-bit) Microsoft Windows 10 version 21H2 (64-bit) Microsoft Windows 11 version 22H2 (64-bit) The operating systems listed just mean tested. Do you block Youtube for Students?
sigma replied to Driftingashore's topic in Internet Related/Filtering/Firewall
100% all the above, but that curation seems to fall between the cracks in terms of responsibility. Since the return of pupils after the lockdowns, there seems to be a marked decline in some pupils staying on task when doing anything with computers. The increased use of online gameification of learning (I am not a teacher), seems to be amplifying this. Sparksmaths, idea.org, Blooket, Kahoot, and any number of language platforms for example.
