For general use in classrooms, yes. I assert that it is permissible for bored technicians' personal pleasure, provided nobody else can hear it (e.g. with headphones).

Enjoying your short holiday between jobs then? edit: that was the weirdest thing I've seen in a long time...

In modern Gnome remote Windows shares are mounted with gvfs, which doesn't interact with the real filesystem so it won't show up in /media or in /etc/fstab. gvfs-fuse fixes that, and it's packaged in gvfs-bin. Older Gnome uses gnome-vgs, and if that's the case you're SOL. Try looking in ~/.gvfs first, it might have just done the Right Thing™.

To be fair to the SnapScan, it's expensive but it's a gorgeous piece of kit if you don't have a friendly neighbourhood MFD.

If you're doing more than a handful of machines, it's worth taking the time to set up KMS (IME it Just Works™, as long as DNS is set up correctly). Remember than machines have to re-arm at intervals, so for staff laptops I'm sticking with a MAK and permanent activation.

Shortcuts you mean? You can do that in group policy through a logon script, custom MSI packages or if you have GPP set up, shortcut deployment. On the other hand, if you just want to populate the favourites menu, that's also a job for group policy.

I've only ever used external monitoring, like Chubb's. Our door entry system can allegedly do it... it can tie into the fire and burglar alarms and it can send notifications on events, so I imagine the two functions are complementary. It's Paxton's Net2.

If you send them the same email every Monday, they will ignore it. This is a staff discipline problem, not a technology problem.

And for bonus points, configure the default profile and user profiles independently so that a logged-in user doesn't stood by after five minutes.

Google have some safe harbour arrangement for EU data, but I don't know what it applies to. You'll have to ask them. -
It does work. Your internets fail.

Real network managers build their MSIs by hand (where a proper one isn't available, obviously)

I've never had trouble with <20 concurrent users over the network. If your front end is heavy, it's worth separating tables and interface and deploying the interface to workstations, and using linked tables to connect to one MDB of tables.
