Then yes you can. As long as the Windows clients can see the Mac server then theres no reason you can't use the Mac server. Ok so I'm just starting to get my head around SCCM 2012 R2. I have Windows 7 being deployed and applications being successfully installed after that. Is there a way to schedule a machine or group of machines to be wiped and re-installed without having to sit in front of each machine PXE boot it and kick off a re-install? I apologize if this is a thick question but as I said I'm still getting my head around it.

Can you not move the RADIUS authentication off of your Lightspeed appliance onto your Wireless solution and pass the results back to Lightspeed. Thus avoiding the need to re-authenticate?

We decided that there was very little that we couldn't do using Apple's Profile manager running on a Mac Mini hosted on-site. Thus far we have 250 devices enrolled and working with another 600 running off of Meraki that we plan need to transition away from over the next few months...

Apple supports to ways to purchase apps 1) redeemable codes 2) managed distribution Redeemable codes are used like gift cards and are then permanently owned by the iTunes account that it was purchased through. Managed Distribution allows the school to assign the license to a user and then take it back once they've finished with it. For this the MDM system needs to know about each user's iTunes/App Store account. In Meraki you can send the email out to a school owned email address and the end user can sign in to their own iTunes account whether its associated with their school email or not. A word of warning: Meraki are now charging for updates and support. See here.

Does the printer have to be connected through the computer or does it work through a standard TCP/IP port share off of a print server?

I'm currently investigating implementing Papercut 'follow me printing' and retro fitting it to non MFP device. Has anyone done this either with biometric readers or card readers? I've had a quotation at the moment but its massively expensive.

We insisted that all users had an Apple ID before the day of issuing the iPads (while there were 5 or 6 students who didn't bother thats a manageable number) then the user's receive a notification on their iPad when you send it out after which point the user signs in accepts the EULA and then its done. Simple. Bare in mind that we are using authentication with AD within Profile Manager this helps us keep track of all of who's who as the Students are able to rename all of their iPads.

We have 200 devices enrolled thus far and 96% of those user are enrolled in our VPP scheme. Thus far we've been able to distribute apps purchased through the VPP Scheme and three apps developed inhouse without issue. As a very sweeping statement enrolling users into Apple's VPP scheme using Profile manager is a piece of cake when compared to Meraki (I can't talk about the other systems as I haven't tried to use them).

We are using a Lightspeed Rocket for our web filtering so we'd have the option of using their MDM solution but at the moment Profile Manager is fulfilling our requirements.

A couple of bits we've found thus far: Profile manager isn't anywhere near as easy to extract information from. Backing up profile manager seams to change between versions and I'm yet to have to find out if the backup works. I've not been able to locate anyone documenting what kind of performance hit 1,000+ devices connected.

Essentially I started to ask why they had been rather slow in making available some of the features Apple introduced with iOS 7 (iBooks distribution and previously VPP app distribution) the explained that now they were part of Cisco they had a far more rigours testing to go through (fair enough). They then explained that in order to receive any further feature updates or any further support they wanted a per device subscription. While this isn't unreasonable to ask for a subscription thus far they are more expensive than a number of other vendors.

We've moved away from Meraki to Profile manager due to the cost for updates and support. Profile manager hosted onsite works for what we've asked it to do thus far.

Am I missing something here but wouldn't this be a fairer question if the numbers on roll and the quantity of devices connecting were being taken into consideration? Exponential-e 400/1000 leased line with ADSL2 failover. Lightspeed rocket hosted onsite but purchased through ISP who don't provide any additional filtering. The above fit our needs (I'll explain below) We aren't providing any services to any other schools. 1,300 students growing to 1,700 by 2018 750 workstations/laptops onsite Currently 720 iPads onsite (growing to 1,120 by September and 1,850 at least by 2018)

We have four SSIDs: The first extending our internal subnet and used only by school owned devices. The passphrase is a very unmemorable and only known by a select few (3 people). The second is used for guest access but mainly to allow staff internet access for their mobiles etc... access controlled using Radius. The third is used for the sixth form students bringing their own devices to use in school as above access controlled using Radius. The forth is used by students participating in a 1:1 device scheme protected using again a very unmemorable passphrase issued using our MDM solution and know by me and written in our site documentation and then radius authentication primarily for keeping track of who is doing what on the web.
