IOS 7 looks like it will have some useful improvements but I'm still struggling to find a reason to upgrade my iphone 4S (unless Apple nerf the performance of it with the new OS upgrade!) I think Apple is aiming way too high price-wise with the 5c. Especially when Google are poised to bring out their new Nexus 5 for nearly half the price! IMO they really need something closer to the £300 mark to tempt people away from the mid-range Android smartphones. £470 is silly money for last years iPhone in a garish plastic case! It would be crazy not to just stump up another £80 and buy the 5S instead

I've used the RT version quite a bit and really liked the size, weight and form factor but the WindowsRT just doesn't have the apps I need to run. The poor battery life pretty much put me off the previous Surface Pro model but I might be tempted by the Surface Pro 2to replace my aging laptop. Fingers crossed for some MacBook Air style battery life gains from the new Haswell CPU! Does anyone on here own the current Surface Pro and if so what were your thoughts about it?

Lol, you were on that like a hawk! With the new bundle, and additional stock for the UK, just announced a few hours ago hopefully that also means we're in with a chance of getting it on release day too

Well chuffed they're offering it as an alternative as it'll save me £45

I suspect it's only a matter of time until all cars are fitted with onboard 4G and GPS units which will automatically limit speed based on location. They'll bring it in under the auspice of 'road pricing' initially for electric powered vehicles once the government start losing revenue due to motorists switching from fossil based fuels to electric! One thing you can be sure of is that motoring will never get cheaper as the gov know fine motorists are cash cows there to be milked for every penny....

This +1 TBH Up against Nexus7's, iPad Mini's and mobile phones I don't really see much of a future market for dedicated handheld consoles. The main problem I have (and the reason I never bought one) isn't so much the hardware but the fact that Nintendo still insist on charging £30-40 for their handheld games and I just don't see how they can justify charging as much as a full price console game. A tablet or smartphone might cost slightly more initially but at least once you own the thing most of the apps are free or next to nothing to buy. It'll be interesting to see how the tablet style 2DS feels ergonomically compared to the clamshell design though as I always found my old DS too small to play comfortable for any longer then 15 minutes.

I was kind of taken aback at that announcement. I'm still gaming at 1080p on my four year old PC so surely a "next-gen" console, which on paper has at least equivalent specs to a modern mid-range PC, should be more than up to the task. And that's before you take into account all of the dedicated hardware and code optimization plus not needing to run a full desktop OS behind the scenes. It seems almost unbelievable that it wouldn't be capable of running a multi-platform game (which is also out on the PS3/360) at 1080p It's going to be interesting to see how they compare to a PC when running stuff like Battlefield and COD?

I fancy getting one of these for my road bike and thought like the wireless version sounded like quite a nifty feature. Is there maybe an option to change the frequency that the computer uses for communicating with the sensor? On a slight aside does anyone have any specific models they're recommend (or anything that I should avoid)?

I'm kind of tragic when it comes to consoles so I'll probably buy both a Xbone and PS4 If push came to shove and had to decide I'd probably go for a PS4 mainly because it's slightly cheaper and MS's quality control on launch hardware has been a bit suspect in the past. I'm still not really interested in the Wii U yet mainly due to the lack of games. I bought a last gen Wii on the strength of the motion controller (and Zelda) but the touchscreen one with the Wii U doesn't have the same appeal to be honest and 3rd party devs seem to be on the verge of giving up on it. I worry the that games might dry up entirely in a year or so's time when the PS4/Xbone are out and devs decide it's too awkward or isn't worth the effort to port the games to the Wii U.

I'm still not planning on replacing my first gen Nexus7 but that's a serious bargain for £180. I'm surprised Google hasn't alienated all of the OEM's by now to be honest. How are they supposed to compete with that kind of price tag and still manage to turn a profit!

It'll be interesting to see how this latest generation of consoles match up as this is literally the closest they've ever been, architecture-wise, to x86 PCs. Historically though games consoles on launch have been massively more powerful and had much better graphics for the money than any equivalent PC of the time. I've owned a PC though every console generation from PSX though to the last gen and it's always amazed me how superior the console was next to PC's of the day. Even recently I recall playing games like PGR and Oblivion on my Xbox360 and there literally wasn't a PC you could buy (regardless of cost) that came close to it's 3D capabilities. I'd also disagree on the cost of consoles being more expensive. The PlayStation 3 was £425 on launch and even the xbox360 was £280. Going back further most Sony/MS/Nintendo consoles have been launched at around £300. When you take inflation into account modern consoles are actually cheaper! I'd agree that the games are starting to get worryingly expensive though I remember PlayStation 1 games retailing for £40 and that was 15 years ago so £50 RRP now isn't as bad as it could be. I still remember paying £65 for Streetfighter2 when it was released in 1993. Granted Steam sales make everything else look ridiculously expensive but honestly gaming has never been cheaper if you ask me! <grumpy old man voice>Kids today don't realise how good they've got it </grumpy old man voice>

I've pre-ordered a PS4. The lower price and launch titles swung it for me though I'll likely buy an XBone in future at some point once there are a few more exclusive titles. Hopefully MS will have cut the price of it by then too. It also worried me that myself and every single person I know who bought a launch day Xbox360 had it die and RROD on them within 18 months! To be fair MS replaced mine and it's been OK since but once bitten twice shy .....

Finally got round to completing this the other day! It's awesome. For anyone with a PS3 go and buy it now. It's by far the best game I've played this year. I've also being playing the online multiplayer which is a blast. Plays a bit like gears of war with more focus on stealth and team tactics.

We're currently on Windows 7 and I don't see us moving to Windows 8.x anytime in the near future. There's no real advantage for the most part over 7 on a desktop computer and our school is moving towards IOS for tablet devices so I don't see much of a future for Windows as a client OS at this point in time. In hindsight I'm still not convinced it was actually worth the effort to upgrade from WindowsXP to 7 I'm running Windows 8 at home and have no real complaints but I think it's tricky to make a business case for for organisations who are already on Windows 7 to migrate to it.

Some updates on the next gen surface RT roday :- NVIDIA CEO: 'We're working really hard on' second-gen Surface RT - Neowin Sounds like it's going to be Tegra4 based which will hopefully be an improvement perforamance-wise over the current one. Even with the recent price cut to £280 I just couldnt live with the performance offered by the Tegra 3 chipset.

+1 We've been trying implement a SharePoint system for whole school use but there's too many staff with their own ideas about how they want to use online resources and ultimately every department wants the flexibility to pick and choose their own sites for sharing resources. I've given up on trying to implement a single system for staff to use as departments are unable to agree on one and all it does is cause friction between us and staff. I've come to the conclusion that the best way forward is to give staff the freedom to use what they want and simply offer advice if they ask.

Nintendo releasing substandard hardware is a development that seemed to start with the Gamecube. The SNES was massively superior to the Sega MegaDrive though admittedly it was released a year or two later. Likewise, the N64 was way more powerful at rendering 3D than the first Playstation and Sega Saturn. If anything I think Nintendo screwed up releasing the Wii U before the PS4/XBone. I think they'd have done far better if they waited until Sony/MS played their hands and released a system with specs on a par with them a year or so later. By launching early with inferior hardware they've nerfed any chance of getting third party ports of Xbone/PS4 releases. I'm sure Nintendo will still have enough life left in them to release a follow-up to the Wii U and doubtless another Nintendo DS. With the other players crowding out the home console market and tablets/phones eating at their mobile market share things are looking tough for them at this point though. They could well end up in the same boat as Sega.

I thought Wind Waker was pretty cool but I still have the GameCube version sitting on my shelf so if I had the inclination I could to play it on my Wii. In fact I still have a GameCube lying around somewhere! As someone who's owned pretty much every Nintendo/Sony/Microsoft console released in the last 20 years (I'm sad like that) the Wii U is the first one I'm contemplating passing on! It says a lot about the state of Nintendo when one of the biggest releases of the year is an HD refresh of a decade old gamecube game.

This +1 I bought the last Wii to play Zelda and Mario but other than that it's spent most of it's time gathering dust. I can't see myself buying a Wii U unless they cut the price to the point of giving it away (around £100). If they think it's selling poorly now just wait another 6 months time until the new Xbox and PlayStation are out. Buying a console just to play Nintendo's own first party games doesn't make sense and the third party developers seem to be deserting the Wii like rats jumping from a sinking ship ...

I like my original Nexus 7 but I personally feel that a 7" screen is too small for a tablet. It just makes it feel like a large smartphone. IMO you really need a 10-12" screen in a portable tablet. Having used a iPad4/SurfaceRT tablet for a while that sort of screen size a much better form factor for viewing desktop webpages and general productivity.

Has anyone else with an iPhone experienced issues with the app affecting battery life. It may not be the edugeek app (as I installed a couple of others at the same time) but since installing it my battery seems to be draining around twice as fast as usual? Since uninstalling it yesterday my phone now seems to be OK so I'm fairly sure it was the edugeek app that caused it? Could it be a side effect of the way it's checking for updates/notifications as I subscribed to a couple of threads and that seemed to make things worse? I have an iphone 4s on IOS 6.1.3 The application itself is aswesome though!
