Just to add I'm not supporting the fact that cinemas banned Google glass! Just stating that it's not unexpected. As wearable tech takes off they'll ultimately have to give into consumer demand and allow it like they do smartphones. I notice the ads in the cinema now ask people to put their phones on silent rather than turning them off for example. It was kind of surprising the cinema made a resurgence in recent years given the price they're charging for tickets and the fact that everyone had 40-60" TV's which now only cost a couple of hundred quid. Once the 3D fad dies off I'm not convinced how well they'll fare. The cynic in me wonders if 3D is being pushed so hard because it effectively prevents people from recording showings! Everyone I know would rather see the 2D version of a movie when it's an option.

I haven't purchased the standalone version of day Z yet but I've seen vids and my feeling is that Dean 'Rocket' Hall has simply pocketed all of the cash made from the standalone and has no intention of 'finishing' it. It's been in development for years now and there's very little progress to speak of. It makes me wonder how large his dev team is as the impression is that there are literally one or two programmers and artists working on it. He's made millions up front and I can't help but feel this isn't being re-invested in the game unfortunately.

It's understandable given they're basically recording devices but what if people are using their Google glasses with prescription lenses and can't see what's on the cinema screen without them?

At last they've enabled my local cabinet for fibre so I'm finally able to get 21st Century internet speeds. In the scheme of things it's not that fast compared to what some others on here are getting but for me it's a quantum leap forward. My previous broadband speed which, at barely over 1Mbps, was so poor my ISP had to tell me they couldn't actually sell it to me as broadband without me agreeing to accept it! It's unbelievable the difference it makes

It's not something I'd want to wear all day but I think it would be useful when I'm out cycling. It would be handy being able to record my journey and for using as a HUD with information like speed/time/possibly map info/etc. I always wear glasses when out cycling anyway so I think this is a specific instance where it would work well. I'll need to wait until they drop the price slightly though!

Me neither. I'd happy with my hybrid's single chainring and 8 speed cassette for my commute but I'd like to try a fixed single speed sometime just to see what it's like. I'm thinking I might upgrade my commuter to a Whyte Shoreditch when they're available at my local bike shop so I can get the cycle scheme discount.

I was tempted to try out a single-speed for the simplicity of maintenance but my commute is downhill all the way to work and hence uphill all the way back so I think it would be kind of inefficient. @jinnantonnixx : Do you usually ride fixed or freewheel?

Thanks for the replies everyone. I've setup Tweetdeck with lists of the feeds I've been following and it's all way more manageable now. I've actually ended up un-following most of the previous feeds and only left contacts I personally know and want to message directly. That way my main feed has hardly any tweets in it and if I want to check on a specific topic I can just refer to the relevant list. Is there any downside to 'following' people via lists rather than directly?

Thanks, having a play with it and creating lists for my Twitter feeds just now. If anything the web interface is actually better than the app from what given it's virtually identical and saves the hassle of installing it. I'm surprised Twitter don't make their web UI more like tweetdeck as the standard interface rapidly becomes useless as soon as you follow more than a couple of dozen people.

Just wondered what apps/clients people were using to manage their twitter accounts? I've never really used in it anger and mainly use it like an RSS feed for monitoring news sites. Even though I'm only following around 30-40 accounts I seem to be getting hundreds of tweets each day to the point that it's virtually unmanageable! Any recommendations on apps or suggestions on how to filter/organise the tweets?

Better than an iPhone.....Burn the heretic...... The iPhone 6 is out in a couple of months as well which looks like it will have a 5"-ish screen and a few other goodies. I keep contemplating switching to Android (as I tend to use Google's online services quite heavily these days) for my next phone but I'm going to hold fire and see what Apple are offering. It'll be interesting to see whether Google release an updated Nexus phone later this year too.

If you had a multi-threaded app that was able to use all the cores I guess it could improve performance beyond some of the quad core intel processors. AnandTech Portal | The Vishera Review: AMD FX-8350, FX-8320, FX-6300 and FX-4300 Tested The video encoding test benchmark above is a good example where the additional cores are beneficial. The thing that puts me off AMD is that the instances where it leads it's only slightly quicker whereas there are quite a few benchmarks where the AMD is much slower. Also that benchmark is comparing it against the previous gen intel CPU's. If it were my build I'd find an extra £30 and get an Intel i5 4670 (£160-ish) instead but I'm sure someone will be along in a second to disagree with me Oddly I also used to have a Thermaltake Tsunami case but I personally found that it was a bit lacking in ventilation and interior space once you start fitting longer video cards and multiple HDD's. Might be OK depending on what components you're putting inside it though? Currently I'm using a Coolermaster HAF922 which I really like and is fantastic for ventilation and has plenty of room inside but it is quite big. If I build another PC in future I'm gonna try and shrink down to something like a Bitfenix Prodigy or similar.

+1 Buy an Intel CPU/Mobo and don't be swayed by the number of cores unless you have a very specific reason for getting the AMD one.

@Arthur Thanks for the heads up about the educational discount. I hadn't realised MS offered that. Regarding the 23Gb of free space that must have been for the last gen surface. 36Gb is still far from really usable by the time you install a couple of apps and service packs/patches in future though. I guess in the scheme of things compared to the competition it is competitively priced but I think they could have offered more cost effective combinations of spec. 128Gb SSD should really be the minimum and they shouldn't force you to buy the upgraded i5 CPU in order to get it. That and the keyboard should be bundled with the device and not a £110 extra.

I've read through the Surface 3 pre-order page and the pricing/spec options have left me feeling somewhat frustrated. On the face of it that seems like a pretty good deal but the base model comes with a near useless 64Gb SSD which only has 23Gb free out of the box. To get up to the spec I'd want with a 256Gb SSD and 8Gb RAM it costs £1109 and even then I need to add keyboard cover at an additional £110. That comes to a much more substantial £1220 which is nearly double what the base model costs!

I'm never really seen the appeal of paying for dedicated notebook software. MS already have pen functionality within Powerpoint. The way things are going with tablets I think IWB's are going to be redundant technology soon for the majority of schools. There will always be some staff who want to stand at a board and write rather than using a tablet but I suspect they'll be the minority as using a tablet is far easier and more natural for most. SMART have obviously realized their sales are going to tank in the next few years hence the mad rush to get companies signed up to subscription based models! Does anyone have an idea of what the ball park pricing is likely to be?

On further investigation the issue seems to relate to the fact we're using shielded CAT6a STP cabling with the Meru AP's which is causing issues when using power over Ethernet to drive them. It works OK with the unshielded CAT5/6a UTP cabling elsewhere in the school.

There's a pretty serious gap in pricing between the 128Gb and 256Gb i5 models. £849 vs £1109. Somewhat annoying as I reckon the Core i5/256Gb is the model most people would want. They seriously want another £260 for another 128GB!!! I wonder if the 128Gb model only has 4Gb of RAM rather than 8gb?

I wondered that aswell since you can literally scale 1 pixel to 4 which could in theory mean that you don't need to worry about scaling issues. In practice however when you actually set font scaling in windows to 200% you often find there are loads of things that don't scale cleanly or don't scale at all which would render them unreadable on high DPI 12" display. Microsoft REALLY need to start addressing this as high DPI 'retina' displays are pretty much the norm on tablets and with 4k displays becoming mainstream they'll soon be the norm on larger monitors as well.

I looked at the previous one but the 10" screen at 1920x1080 put me off as it was too small to run natively with windows and font scaling is pretty ropey in Windows 8 as we all know. I'm slightly wary as it I think might end up being useless at native res when you go back to using a desktop app. I'm glad they've gone for a 3:2 ratio though as my personal feeling is that 16:9 is a hopeless aspect for a small tablet. Apart from my concerns about that it sounds like a fantastic tablet though and if they can bring it out priced at £600-700 I think they might finally have a device to tempt people away from their ipads. Will be heading off to see one of these when my local retailers have it in stock. Having said that I'm starting to feel dejavu as every time MS release a Surface Pro tablet I get hyped and tempted to go out and buy one! So far there' always been something that's put me off though ! The first one was the poor battery life. When they fixed that I was frustrated by how unusable 16:9 was on a small 10" 1080p screen especially on the desktop. This time.....we'll see
