Been playing around with it on a VM for the last 15 minutes and it's definitely an improvement over Windows 8. Overall I'm feeling slightly disappointed by it so far though. I mean, seriously, is that all Microsoft are capable of accomplishing in 2 years given the resources they have available? On the face of it other than the return of the start menu and windowed metro apps there's nothing much of interest? Hopefully there are more changes to come and a load of tweaks under the hood that I haven't noticed yet. Underwhelmed so far TBH...

The video card situation is one thing I'm not sure about. The original GTX470 I bought with my last PC died earlier this year so I replaced it with a GTX770. The new 900-series cards are nice but probably not worth the upgrade from a 770 so I reckon I'll keep the video card for now and just get the mobo/CPU/RAM/SSD. Debating getting a new case to go along with it as I quite like the look of the Corsair Air 240 cube cases. The issue with that being that it means I need to find a Micro ATX Motherboard which are pretty rare right now for X99. AFAIK EVGA are the only company that make one at the moment.

Given that all Apple gave customers last time there was an issue with their phone was a free case I didn't really expect them to even acknowledge it to be honest.

LOL That's awesome! I'm guessing this might not turn out to be that big a deal but after the Antennae-gate farce with the iPhone 4 I think the moral of the story is never buy a new phone on the week of release.

I guess it's inevitable we'd start seeing issues given phones have now pretty much reached the point where the no longer really fit neatly in a front pocket. I mean, seriously, how are you supposed to carry an iPhone plus yet still preserve the clean lines of your skin tight hipster jeans whilst sitting down for a flat white coffee? On a serious note though Apple really should have engineered enough strength into the shell of the phone to prevent it flexing quite so easily.

+1 You can buy an additional 4Gb RAM for around £35. If you go to somewhere like crucial they'll guarantee compatibility as well if you enter your system model/spec.

Was just gonna post the same article as it came as a bit of a shock to me TBH! I can understand that Chromebooks were always likely be a niche market but I'd have thought a company like Samsung could still turn a profit selling laptops. I wonder if we'll see any of the other big players following suit?

I've just power watched the first season and it's pretty entertaining but didn't really explain that much. I'll probably carry on viewing it once the next episodes are available though. In my opinion if you new to Anime the best series to watch are the original Full Metal Alchemist and Neon Genesis Evangelion.

Pretty much the way things seem to be going in most of the public sector. Teachers are at least in a position where they have strength in numbers and can get the unions behind them in a position to negotiate. Us non-teaching staff tend make for easy pickings for the vultures unfortunately.

I built my last PC from components, and I may well do the same again, but I wanted to get quotes from a couple of places first to see how they compare. I've been lurking on the OCUK forums for a while and the folk on there seem pretty knowledgeable. I'd probably want to go for a custom build since I'm a bit fussy about which components it's fitted with! Both Scan and OCUK seem to offer a custom build service which I like the idea of. I also like the look of the new X99 PC Alienware are releasing next month but it's probably just a load of cobbled together Foxconn parts in a bling case with a ludicrous markup on the price tag. Looks cool though

I'm not sure what I'll pay for it with though seeing as we may not be able to use the pound sterling after Thursday

I've been contemplating treating myself to a new Haswell-E X99 based rig and wondered if anyone had any recommendations where to buy a pre-built system from? I still may end up ordering parts and building it myself but I'm at the point where virtually all the components in my PC could use an upgrade so wondered if buying an entire system might make more sense. Had a look at Scan and Overclockers. Anyone use either of them before?

Admittedly, in my opinion, U2 haven't released anything worth listening to since 1991's Achtung Baby but I think the backlash on the internet has been slightly OTT

I didn't realise they still even made it TBH. Given virtually all phones can now store/play MP3's so there's no real need for a dedicated device. Especially when you have Spotify and other streaming services available .

PS4 is a fantastic console and a bargain for the £350 Sony are asking for it. Even more so now it comes with Destiny bundled for the same price. Granted if you spent a couple of hundred more you could probably build a better PC and get the games off steam cheaper but if you don't want a desktop PC and still want to play the latest games the PS4 is the way to go IMO. I say that as someone who also owns an Xbox One before any fan boys chirp in! Admittedly MS's online service is vastly superior to Sony's PSN offering which seems to be down every other week due to DDOS attacks or other technical issues!

Been playing this for a few hours today and have just about reached the end of where the beta finished off. I'm enjoying it but it seems to be getting slated by the review sites for a lack of variety and small levels. I guess I'll see how it goes when I reach some of the other planets. PSN tag is deathhaggis for anyone that fancies a game.

On a tablet perhaps but on a desktop/laptop I can't seen a single reason you'd ever want to use the start screen now you can run metro apps in windowed mode and.... Actually I've complained enough about windows 8 so I'm not going to make the effort to criticise its UI design anymore. Suffice to say even after using it daily since release I feel virtually every UI element MS introduced in Windows 8 (Start screen, Charm Bar, Hot corners, Metro Apps, Metro UI) was badly implemented and flat out broken in some cases. Looks like Windows 9 seems to have addressed at least some of these issues ...

That's getting install on my PC ASAP if it looks like that. Finally Microsoft get back to the business of making a desktop OS. I wonder if they'll charge for the upgrade and if so how much?
