Thought I'd resurrect this thread to see if any school's have found an online cloud-based IDEs which would work as a replacement for Replit - Teams for Education?

Are there any Cloud / Software-As-Service based Timetabling solutions folk on here would recommend?

I was actually thinking about this the other day as I'd been discussing job applications with HR. I was shocked to learn part of their form now requires that job applicants submit a note of their social media profiles for the major platforms (Facebook, X, Instagram, etc) in order to run an AI check of the content posted to vet potential employees! When you couple that with the push in recent years by goverments to remove online anonimity it's hardly surprising that many are growing increasingly wary of what they post on social media and avoiding it's use altogether!

I'd agree that Gemini works pretty well when transcribing Google Meets. However, our staff have been trying to use it to record face-to-face meetings and, perhaps understandaby, it seems to struggle to differentiate speakers. Has anyone found an app or Google extension which makes it more usable for face-to-face meetings? Or would another service (Otter.AI?) be a better solution for that purpose?

Several of our staff have reported the same issue. The "Ink Workspace" functionality seems to have vanished presumably in a Windows update. Worse still the Windows Store app needs a Microsoft login so our staff can no longer use it Does anyone know if it's been replaced in Windows 10 by anything ? Or Windows 11 have similar functionality/features integrated hence the removal of it from Windows 10?

Watched this in the cimema a few weeks ago and was uterly disappointed by it. It feels like just another a low budget generic zombie flick!

If I was there those would be the cabinets I'd be making beeline for! 😎 If used to go to the Replay Play Expo events every year (primarily for the arcade cabinets) but they've stopped running so many of them unfortunately. I think the only one left is the Blackpool event which is a bit of a trek for me travelwise It's a shame because they had some amazing stuff there like the full size ride-on Sega space harrier / Afterburner cabinets. https://www.replayevents.com/upcoming-shows I'd initally thought that perhaps they'd stopped running them because the cabinets were becoming too valuable to allow the public to game on. Or perhaps that they were becoming difficult to maintain and source spare parts for due to the fact they're nearly 50 years old. However, it's more likely just that only folk who remember them from back in the 1980s would have any interest in playing them today and they're a bit too niche!

Updated higher resolution/fps edictions of existing Switch titles like Zelda is one of the mains reasons I'm planning on getting one as well. Though the new Metroid and Mario Kart titles look pretty slick too.

That's another thing I appreciated about Clickview in that it reduced the need for awkward conversations with staff about acquiring content from iplayer/Youtube or converting DVDs! I think it would be a real downgrade for staff if we had to go back to them asking us to manually record programmes from Freeview. There's definitely a need for a service that can record/store the programmes for us and let staff download them after broadcast.

I'd agree about it not being worth paying to host video content given the alternatives available. The key aspect of Clickview I do like is how easy it makes recording freeview programmes. We haven't found any other services which provide the same level of functionality/flexibility when it comes to staff being able to easily edit/cut and store programmes from Freeview channels. Do you still have a method of recording programmes from UK Freeview if staff request any are added to SharePoint Stream?

Has anyone looked at Planet eStream recently? How does it compare cost-wise with Clickview? Are there any other alternatives with considering?

It's primarily just cost that was making us consider moving. Clickview have increased our annual subscription by an order of magnitude this year (~50% IIRC) which prompted us to look at alternatives.

For anyone who's cancelled their Clickview subscription is there any method of exporting the videos/recording stored in your library to another system? Or is moving away from Clickview effectively accepting you're going to lose any existing videos teachers are using?

We currently use a third party tool (ManageEngine) in order to deploy Windows updates. I'm not sure if we'll stlll be able to apply updates the same way or if we'll need to switch to another method once we move to Extended Security Updates (ESU). Presumably the patches won't be readily publicly available after official support ends? Not quite sure how it will work! Something to ask our Microsoft Account Manager when we purchase the licences as the school doesn't intend to move to Windows 11 until next year.

Is anyone on here planning on sticking with Windows 10 and paying for Extended Security Updates (ESU) ? What's involved in terms of accessing and applying updates once you move to extended support? Has anyone done this on Windows 7 or 10 previously?

Are Drayton Wiser devices suitable for use in a larger business/school with multiple users and buildings/sites or are they just for home use? Our facilities manager has asked us to look into installing one to manage the heating in one of our school sites?

We have Netsupport Notify. It's fine for messaging but for lockdowns/security purposes there should really be an audible alarm system of somekind IMO. I wouldn't recommend it for that purpose in the event of an emergency. It reminds me too much of the IT Crowd scene with Moss and the fire...

Aye, the founders edition is definitely the way to go as it tends to be cheaper than the 3rd party cards. I don't think you're missing much by sticking with what you have. The only real advantage of the RTX 5000 series seems to be the Multi-Frame generation tech and the improved DLSS support. Most of the parts in my PC are from 2014, when I last built a complete new PC, so I think I'm due an upgrade

Yeah, I can imagine stock being quite limited at launch and for several months after launch! I expect you'll need to find out what time sales go live and keep refreshing the browser if you want any chance of getting one! It's definitely worth considering as it doesn't look like the new 5000 series will actually be much quicker that the previous generation anyway. The problem I've found is that second hand prices of RTX 4000/3000 cards over the past year have been so close to new RRP that it hasn't felt worth going for the used option. Maybe prices will drop to a more appealing level once the 5000 cards launch and existing owners start upgrading in number. Reviews of the RTX 5090 came out today and they seem somewhat disappointing unfortunately. It's around 30% faster than the previous 4090 however it costs more than that card did and has higher power requirements. So whilst faster it's debabable how much of an improvement it is. Worse still it looks like the gains down the product range xx70, xx80 will be even lower (~20%) as they're less of a jump in spec than the 5090.

Yeah, I'll be playing at, or near, 4K which is why I'm thinking that the CPU is less important at that resolution. I can always upgrade it down the line with the £200 I'm saving now if I need to. The list prices don't look 'too bad' (compared to the RTX 4000 series at least). I guess the question is whether they'll be readily available at the prices over the launch window though? I noticed a couple of folk suggested going for an X3D chip for gaming but they're all £400-500 CPUs. Looking at some benchmarks it doesn't really look like there's much of a perfomance jump from a 9600X to a 9800X3D despite it costing twice as much. Is it worth considering a better CPU? My current monitor is a 34" ultrawide (3440x1440 60Hz) though I'll likely upgrade to a 27-32" 120Hz+ 4K panel in future. At that resolution it doesn't look like the slightly faster CPU makes much difference to frame rates? Is that a reasonable assumption? A B650 motherboard seemed like a reasonable bet. I don't think there are any specific features I need other than integrated WiFi? Is it worth considering any other motherboard models? I liked the Fractal Pop Air Case as I want to stick with an air cooled CPU/etc. I had an AIO water cooler in a previous build and found the pump noise quite annoying though perhaps it was just that model/brand? I also like the Pop Air as it has an couple of hidden 5.25" drive bays so I can easily add a blu-ray drive and my current 8Tb 3.5" HDD for storage. Any thoughts on the above spec? Go easy on me as I haven't build a new PC in nearly 10 years...... !

I'm planning on buying/building a new gaming PC when the new Nvidia cards release next month. Possibly either a 5070/5070ti paired with a Intel i5/Ryzen5? I'm not quite sure what CPU/Mobo to go for so open to suggestions? Is AMD still the better option at the moment? I'd like to avoid buying from any of the major OEM's as I've found they tend to be full of custom motherboards/cases/connectors/etc so are often a hassle to repair or upgrade in future. Ideally I'd want to buy from a system builder where I know they'll use standard spec/size branded quality parts. My initial thought was to order it from Scan as I noticed they offer a custom PC builder where you can pick the exact components you want.
