For the record I'd have no issue with this policy if it wasn't for the the default on / opt-out nature of it. Is it really so hard for parents to phone up their broadband provider and say "I'd like you to turn on website filtering for my connection to prevent my child accessing innapropriate content" ? Is there anywhere else in Europe that has a similar policy because most of the countries I know of who pro-actively censor the internet aren't places I'd like to live!

To be fair to the Daily Mail readership from skimming the comments discussion it's very clear that NOBODY is actually in favour of what's being suggested. In all likelyhood I think the Conservatives will back down fairly quickly when the realise how the electorate are going to react to their suggestion of censoring the Internet. It'll be interesting to see how the other parties react to the proposal though?

To me the key question is exactly who decides on the "naughty list" of websites to be censored. It worries me that our PrimeMinister has started off with the straw man argument of approaching from the Daily Mail 'think of the the children...' side of the debate rather than treating people like they have a brain. I'd have taken him more seriously if he'd said 'there's unsuitable content for minors on the web; how can we stop them accessing it?". As it stands I suspect this has far more to do with individuals/groups lobbying him than protecting children. Still, at least now the the Daily Mail can claim the moral high ground in it's stand for family values....

What kind of prices were you looking annually? I think the biggest issue we have here is that it's up against SCCM which is virtually free to schools via the MS agreement. The main problems we have with SCCM are that is it's very unintuitive and always seems to stop working when you need it most! Hence the reason we're looking at alternatives like Manageengine.

We've just sat through a webinar for ManageEngine and I've got to say it looks awesome as a combined helpdesk, asset management, AD Management and software/OS deployment solution. It all looks really easy to use, intuitive and very well integrated. Is anyone currently using it and if so would you recommend it?

That's what I'm holding out for. A tablet with the same form factor as the Microsoft SurfaceRT using a bay trail quad core CPU, 4gb RAM and 128GB SSD has the potential to be awesome.

Hopefully Windows 8.1 and Intel's new Haswell/Bay Trail chipsets will give the OEMs something they can build. Otherwise I'll be buying a new iPad to replace my laptop if the current crop are as good as it gets!

I wouldnt be so sure. The staff we showed them to at my school hated them. They disliked the lack of apps and found the windows 8 UI schizophrenic. Can't really argue with them on either point to be honest! They are very cheap at the moment but that's primarily due to the fact that they're about to be replaced with a new model later in the year. Maybe windows 8.1 will improve things but its hard to recommend a Windows RT tablet at any price right now IMO.

Don't know if you all saw the same movie I did as I thought it was an absolute turkey! Zero suspense and no character development whatsoever. The Zombies themselves seem to evolve from generic CGI ninja hordes to comedy twitchy ones in the medical facility at the end. I'm not the only one as the whole cinema audience were in hysterics laughing at them by the end of the movie! Perhaps someone saw the glitchy movement of them in an early DayZ build and thought it was there for artistic effect As someone who loves most Zombie related games/movies I'd expected much more of World War Z especially from the reviews I've read. Maybe you had to read the books first!

Oddly, despite having used it since launch at home, rather than getting used to the changes I'm actually starting to find Windows 8 increasing frustrating to use the more time I spend working with it! I can see where Microsoft is going with trying to combine the metro touch UI and the Windows7 desktop interface but as it stands just now the whole thing feels like a half finished mess that isn't particularly suited to either tablets or laptops/desktops. There's simply no logic to the way the UI and OS is structured anymore.

We're currently using Zendesk which is good, and I like the cloud hosted aspect of it, but I find there are quite a few areas it falls down in. Specifically I wish it incorporated :- 1) Scheduling/Calendaring for jobs/tasks 2) Somekind of Asset Management to link calls to specific hardware/device faults 3) A method of monitoring internal department processes/procedure and change control A colleague suggested looking at SysAid and another school recommended SolarWinds but I wanted to ask if anyone had any other suggestions?

The GTX 780 seems like the card to go for at the moment (since it's essentially a cut down titan) but the recent NVidia price hikes of the 700 series over the previous 600series are a bitter pill to swallow. I'd like one but personally it's hard to justify spending £550 on a video card!

I think the sale is probably due to the fact that there's a slew of Zombie games out this month (Last of us, State of Decay) and the Day Z Standalone release is imminent so they're probably figuring that they need to try and flog a few more copies while the can!

We're currently using Dell blade servers and they seem to work fairly well. From past experience I would say that I preferred some of the HP management software which came with them and that the build quality of the HP kit was better but I don't know if this has changed so wanted to get some opinions from other folks on the forum before we decide.

If you were looking to buy new server equipment which would be your preferred brand and why ?

+ 1 Looks awesome. I'll wait and see how the graphics stack up but to be honest I think I'd prefer to buy a new PC to play it rather than an Xbox/PS4. Still the current launch date is now Spring 2014 so looks like I'll have plenty of time to decide. Also, I really hope those prices on Amazon are just them hedging their bets cause if £55 becomes the new norm for games releases It'll have my thinking twice about buying any new consoles. I've gotten too used to buying games on steam sales for £5

Been watching some of the game demos at the E3 Presentation today but none of the launch titles really interest me apart from Forza 5. Anyone planning on pre-ordering ?

At the other side of the spectrum I've noticed the capacitive touch-screen on my iphone stops working when the temperature drops close to zero!

It frustrates me that OEMs have been so slow to start incorporating SSD drives into their desktop/laptop computers and where it's an option they mug you for it. You can buy a 128Gb SSD for like £60 these days. It should be standard on every corporate laptop/desktop by now IMO!

I'm contemplating upgrading my i7-920 as it's now 3 years old and a 4770 would offer pretty much double the performance but it's more a case of 'wanting' an upgrade rather than needing it at this point! Haswell will also make for a useful jump in battery life in mobile devices. That looks awesome but given that a 1440p 30" monitor costs about a grand I suspect it'll be a case of if you have to ask how much then you can't afford it. A large monitor at that resolution would be EPIC though.

Reviews and pricing are out. Performance is near identical to the TITAN meaning it's pretty much the 2nd fastest card single GPU card on the market behind that. Still there's no way I'm gonna pay £600 for a video card! I'd expected it to retail for closer to £400 given that's been the usual price for top-line x80 Nvidia GPU's. I really hope this isn't a sign of things to come otherwise I'll be going back to console gaming!
