Looking to get a new wireless adapter for my laptop, want something that has a good range on it, so I can use my laptop in the garden etc. We have acer laptops and EEE pcs here. Acers with builtin wireless will pick up the close WAPs and they run on 802.11g But the EEEpcs will pick up nearly all the WAPs in the building(big building). Do they run on 802.11n? Or something else? Can anyone recommend me a good wireless adpater which offers similar range as an eeePC?

"The BIOS in this system is not fully ACPI compliant"

You should be able to re-image. Free way is to download the Ultimate boot cd, and boot off that disk. Theres a few free utilities for cloning on there, which are simply to use. Make sure you have a good functioning harddrive from an identical machine, to take the image from. -
Now now ladies.......

I always recommend this: PhotoRec - CGSecurity Does a good job for smaller devices like memory sticks, wouldn't recommend it for Hard Drives though.

Accessing wireless stations

Theres a small pin prick reset button on some of the some of Netgear wireless access devices, which if you use - should reset it back to a factory default. Then you can configure if from scratch. -

Wireless printing through a central server
flashsnaps replied to dgsmith's topic in How do you do....it?
As mentioned above, install the printers on to the server and then share them out, we do that for most classroom/office printers. -
Hi all, I can't remember the name of it, it might be ADSI/monkey x or something. You type in a server and domain and click populate. It then brings up a lists of users logged in to that domain. (only users with VNC installed on their machine) And you can right click on the user and VNC into that machine. Does anyone know what I am going on about & where I can download it from? Thanks

If it restarts after windows splat - then its usual the drive, with desktop machines anyway. Run a FULL test diagnostic on the drive.

Well theres 3 of us - me, a tech and the network manager, and we all cover all the areas mentioned - I guess I fall under all catergories 1st/2nd/3rd. Thanks for the comments

I am not a Network manager just an IT Tech - but I do get well involved in the server side, I do a lot of server work, including backsups, dhcp, deploying software, updates etc. So 3rd line would be accurate for me?

Can someone please clarify the main differences/roles which fall under the 3 levels of IT support. Thanks

Hi, I am trying to convert MPEG-4 TO MOV in order to upload some videos for a teacher. I've tried the Wizard in VLC player but haven't had much luck. Is there another FREE utility I can try? And is there much difference between MPEG-4 & MP4?

restricting user access on a workgroup
flashsnaps replied to philbert_mcpleb's topic in Windows Vista
Don't really know that much about it - but have read over the subject. Not sure about Vista as I don't have a machine to check. But on XP Run > gpedit.msc Allows you to enable/disable functions -
We have it working fine here. There were some cracks and pops during recording at first which we solved by changing th buffer size, and of course the dongles going missing - which we now safely secure inside the machine - so they're can't be taken.

Profile problem, rename the old one - and it should create a new one next time he/she logs on. Copy the favorites, desktop etc across. -

Is it on any computer they login to? Or just the one? If any - new profile may be in order.
