Adding Desktop icons via Group Policy
flashsnaps replied to flashsnaps's topic in Windows Server 2008
I've found that option, and enabled Desktop, "Basic redirect everyones folder to the same location" and then placed \\server1\desktop.login underneath. Set "Remove common program groups from start menu " back to not configured. But it doesnt load the test icons I've placed in that location...? -

That sounds good, how do you do that? Which options in GP? -
Hi, I have Server 2008 r2 with Windows XP clients. I have group policy open infront of me. The student profiles have a .man profile so nothing is saved back to the server. When students login it logins with the .man profile and Word, Excel and My Computer, BUT it is loading the desktop icons stored in the all users on the local pc to the desktop too. How can I set it, so just has Word, Excel and My Computer?

Hi all, I have one Server 2003 domain controller with around 200 PCs. I have Symantec Backup Exec backup running. Today I removed a piece of software from the server called Classlink which monitors a particular OU in Active Directory. I then noticed it had deleted that particular OU from Active Directory! I have a System State of Active Directory from Sunday night. Can you advise of any problems I may encounter restoring? Can I just restore the OU from within Windows?

Hi all, Running server 2008 Enterprise with winxp & 7 PCs. Do you know of any software / freeware or method of enabling the teachers to reset the pupils network passwords without giving them access to the server. I do not really want to give them access to the server to reset pupil passwords via AD if there is a simple interface or method of doing it without.

Hi all, I have 1x zonedirector 1000 with 3x 7363 access points, the first 7363 is plugged into the ZD and the other 2 mesh. I have noticed on the ZD sometimes, that one or sometimes both access points that mesh are disconnected. I look at the event log and theres a message that says heartbeat lost? Access point version: 8.2.0.0.53 The 2 meshing access points are only 10-15meters away from the ZD. When connected they have signal (%)55% down and 99%up Any thoughts?

Server 2008 build for school network - advice please
flashsnaps replied to flashsnaps's topic in Windows Server 2008
Private/primary school /reasonably well behaved. -
Hi all, I have been asked to build a Server for a small school with around 80students and 40staff. I am going to build up a HP ML350 G6 with a RAID5 array and running Server2008 ENT R2 Main requirements for staff and students are Internet, word, excel, powerpoint, editing pictures and printing. No emails. I am planning to create mandatory profiles for all students with home directories to save data. Staff will have roaming profiles with a home directory. Any one got any advice on any special tweaks or configuration they have to lock down or things I should be aware of, this is the first build I have done for a school as I usually build SBS servers. I have an untangle box in placed which will deal with content filtering etc.

Hi, Sorry could of put the title better! Windows Server 2003 with mainly XP Clients and 1 WIN7. A teacher with a WIN7 Pro Laptop logs in within school it loads her profile no problems, but when she logs in at home (outside the network, no DC) its not grabbing the locally stored copy but instead creating a temp one(or loading the default user)? Any suggestions, obviously users with XP are not experiencing this issue. Just this 1 WIN7 user. Cheers

This concerns me, I am installing a Samsung Network printer/scanner in a room with 10workstations, I am not planning on installing it on the server just going to install it with the IP Address on each machine. Then I need to work out how to scan to a shared drive on the server without installing the software Think I'll use the ftp option, but the configuration within seems abit unclear!

I was looking at Samsung n130 but I read other posts on this forum, that users had experienced problems with them dropping offline, atheros cards was it? Any suggestions would be great. Thank you

Hi thanks for the heads up, Ruckus I have heard good things about. What sort of pricing would we be looking at?
-
Hi all, at the moment we don't have wireless, we also dont have much money either! ha But I want to implement wireless throughout the school. I am planning to buy 6 Netgear WG602 Wireless Access points and dot them around. The 6 WAPs will have the same: SSID WPA KEY Will a Laptop work well roaming around the school to and from each access point? Have you got something similar that works? Any other recommendations?

Hi, I have a BT Business Hub which we've been given by BT as our Draytek has gone wrong. Temp solution until we have some more funds. The default range for the router is 192.168.1.x Our network is on 192.168.20.x I have gone into the Router, Settings > LAN > theres an option to change the IP Address to manuel and disable the DHCP. But when I click Save it says error. But doesn't tell me what the error is???? Never configured one of these, is there a setting I am missing elsewhere?
