I know IT Support staff come under the BSF arm and will be taken on by the BSF contract winner. But do SIMS Managers come under this? I am unsure as they are support Admin staff and run the MIS system, but do they come under the BSF arm and get employed by the managed service?

I have slipstreamed XP SP3 into a cd image. I then used th eimage t build a laptop image and uploaded it up to the RIS server. Now, when itry to image it tells me the code is incorrect. I have double and treble checked and it is correct. Any suggestions?

If we produce documents, newsletters for pupils or parents or put these are the website and have used Microsoft clipart in these documents is there any licensing issues? We are fully lisenced for over 300 copies of Microsft Office 2003 in the school but i have been asked this question about if we are breaking any laws/rules by producing documents for parents or our website? Anyone help please?

I have very little knowledge of BSF full stop. I have heard rumours and read articles but to be honest i don't really understand the full impact on IT staff. I know a lot of people on there could write a book on it now but all i need are to , i hope simple questions answered urgently. 1. Does BSF affect, come into, involve Academy schools. So, if the school is already an Academy and then the LA BSF wave comes in do it cover Academy's? 2. I know it affects more than just IT Support staff with site staff, cleaners and also kitchen staff being in the loop. KI have been asked today if it affects staff such as the MIS Data Manager who really is MIS based but could also be classed as a sort of IT Support?

I also had this as well. I phoned them up and they got me to reinstall all the software again onto the server. YES i had to completely wipe the old version has it had not been upgraded correctly. I was given the wrong instructions apparently from edexcel and should have gone to the Promissor site for the download.........!! But i have had 60 kids last week sit exams in batches of 2x 30 and not had any problems and all tests up loaded fine after i had took out the no shows. The uploads were a little slow son I phoned up their tech support and they admitted to me that they had had a few problems there end that day....................!!! At least the guy was honest and did not try to fob me off.

I have installed VNC on a few computers today and when the user logs on a Security ppo box comes up asking if i want to run VNC. I have th eoption to click OK or Cancel. What is causing this? I have deployed this before via the console and have never seen this before?

I have been asked to look into putting a IWB and Projector in our large school hall. They want some sort of board that will lower down at the front of the stage and then can be put back up. I have no idea what to do or what to look for. I now the projector is a issues as well as the roof is high and i don't think that they would approve of long permanent pole hanging from the ceiling, Any body got any thing similar or have any advice,

We have 30 test planned for tomorrow. I had to re-install the software onthe server as the july update borked it up. Luckily we had just re-iamged all the pc's we use for Alan test so it was a matter of just installing the admin software on them. I'll let you know how we get on,

CAn anyone tell me or recommend where i can get Power supplies for Hitachi Cambridge IWB's . We have had a few go missing after certain rooms were revamped over the summer and i need to get a few.

We have Exchange 2007 installed. We don't use the Management console for adding users and still ised AD U&C. We dont give everyone an email address, such as a supply teacher or EWO visitor.We add then to AD so they can log onand do registers etc but nothing more. I have noticed that these users appear in the Global Address list even though the do not have any mailbox or mail attributes. I have double checked this in the Exchange Mgmt Console and they are not listed as having mailboxes? Is this normally or am i doing something wrong.???

We have had our Harnessing & Technology grant come in. What can we sue to spend this money on? Can it spent on Hardware? I seem to remember that you could not spent E-Learning credits on hardware but donot know about this money?

Can some one tell me how to add a custom field into Sims. In our Sims for our staff the yhave 9 fields with the lst one being number 9, Documents. I want to add a number 10, and put a couple of options in that require tick boxes.

The school i am at now have around 25 switches on their network. They Ip address's of these are in the IP range that is assigned to the school. THe school have 1024 address assigned by the LEA. The people who put the switches in used 25 IP from the exluded range at the bottom of the range (10 to 35). They aslo added the address tothe DNS records manually??? The switches do have static IP's but we had a power cut the other week and 4 of them have lost their static IP and are now being assigned by DHCP. I have seen before where some school have their Switches set up like this but add the records to DHCP as reservations puerly for record keeping but still keep keep all the switches as static. Now i am no network guru by any means so could someone advise me what it best practice here. Should they be added to DHCP or DNS just for record keeping? Or should be doind something else?

Is there such a cable as a Y-shaped USB cable? I need to connect 2 computers to one Epson printer. I also need to connect one scanner to the two PCs as well. Would i be better getting a usb HUB to do this ( not sure if this would work with the scanner?) or can you get Y shaped USB cables?

NOw you've mentioned it this happens on a some of our PC's but random rooms/PC's. We have Sophos installed as well and there is no pattern. We have no VIsta PC's so i cant vouch for that.

NOt really had too much trouble with them or their re-fills. We mainly use them for HP2600 but i will definatley be keeping my eye on them now.

XP SP3 caused us loads of grief.........................tip, leave it bloody off.

Are they planning on releasing a 64 bit version of Sims?
