  1. What phone system do you have? We use to be able to do it with Elastix before we upgraded to Windows 7. (Works with XP, Hydrafax i think its called) It installed a printer locally , and when you printed to it a box popped up asking for the fax number to send it to and our VoIP server did the rest, was neat.

    The dark side

I have moved to the dark side and got an Apple Mac Air last week, which i am enjoying. Can anybody tell me what Apple are like if something goes wrong with it? As its all sealed and no changeable parts i am a bit worried, i have seen Apple Care as an option, but having just spent £1150 on the Mac and i am bit skint now and do not really want to shell out more £££
  3. Its a non story really because i think the vast majority of smartphone users update as soon as they can to a new model anyway, in the 18-24 month period. Only people i know who keep a phone more 3,4,5 years + are those who have the very basic handsets and just call and text.
  4. Think somebody has been telling you porkies, we have Exchange 2010 and SQL 2008 virtualised here and they run fine. Its not expensive, and i think many schools use it. Do not think i could not virtualise now, its so much better.
  5. Not quite, but might be doable with some tweaking, as our headed paper has stuff at the top and stuff at the bottom, and that likes to repeate the graphics too. Will have a play....
  6. Trying to create an electronic version of our schools letter headed paper, and i cannot figure out how to make it so the logos do not move when you type in the white space. Tried as a watermark, but that fades the logos, not what we want (but achieves everything else). There must be a way to lock certain objects on the page into place. Its Word 2010.
  7. God they are expensive they want 14.658p per Kwh, i pay npower less than 9p!
  8. Bought my current shoes in Dec 2009, still extreamly comfortable, still in very good condition, worn everday, and in the summer months i work to work and back , so they have had some hammer, they were Prada, cost £280.

    New to macs

Ordered a Mac Book Air 13" with Lion 10.7 on yesterday, just a random thing, never been a fan of mac's but thought i would give one ago, since i seem to be getting more annoyed with Microsoft with each version of Windows since Windows 2000 (that being the last one i consider decent to use). I have only really used a mac maybe 3 times in my life and it was very brief each time. Does anybody know of really good free guides for people jumping from Windows to Mac OS but are aimed at us technical pc folk? Get the feeling i am going to open it up and go, erm erm, what do i do?????
  11. Sharepoint Services?
  12. What brand server is it? If its DELL you can normally boot of one of there Server build CD's first with add the drivers, then you insert the Server 2003 disc
  13. I just want an MSI for the first install, i hate having 2 seperate images 1 with SIMS 1 without. Everything else is deployed with SCCM except SIMS. Infact it does not need to be an MSI, just a silent installer i can put switches on would do, maybe there is.
  14. We just run the following as a logon script to get rid of the duplicate entrys. Was annoying have a Redirect My Documents and a Local My Documents when clicking the username cd %userprofile% rmdir Favorites /s /q rmdir Desktop /s /q rmdir Contacts /s /q rmdir Downloads /s /q rmdir Links /s /q rmdir "My Documents" /s /q rmdir "My Music" /s /q rmdir "My Videos" /s /q rmdir "My Pictures" /s /q rmdir "Saved Games" /s /q rmdir "Searches" /s /q rmdir Documents /s /q rmdir Music /s /q rmdir Videos /s /q rmdir Pictures /s /q
  15. We are having this too since with put SP1 for Windows 7 on over the summer.
  16. Can anybody who has bought Ruckus tell me how much roughly they paid for each AP? Ideally someone who went for the ZoneFlex 7363 AP's? Not after a quote, just a general price per dual band AP with educational pricing, and also did they really need less AP's than an unmanaged wifi system?
  17. I am in the same boat, non of the password reset programs i can find come close to the ease of use of a taskpad view. If you recreate the taskpad on 2008 server you can lock it down to just that one OU, but its no longer as simple as pushinhg out adminpack.msi to clients which is our issue. Wish i had some serious programming skills and i would try and make one.
  18. Thanks, ran away from that one after it said needs at least 3 Gig of ram to perform good.
  19. Is there anything out there that runs on Windows or is PHP/ASP web based, that allows you to add all the printers and it will list in a refreshing page the status? Ie toner levels, jams?
  20. How the hell do you exit a program on Windows 8, its driving me potty. If i press the Windows key it just switches between applications.
  21. I Agree with MYK, the LG's are good, but to me the Rolls Royce are Panasonic. Add to the fact Panasonic have the Pioneers Kuru technology for plasma screens to. You might find some featues on other TV's that you may not see on the Panasonic, but the Panny is more likely to still be working in 6 years. Both the caretakers at our school have chatted to TV repair men, and both have been given the same answer when asked what is the most reliable brand, Panasonic, they claimed to rarely go wrong. Infact when one of them spilt water down the back of the 50" Panasonic Plasma (reason for engineer to come out, about 3 years ago), the TV repair guy said this is the first Panasonic he has had to repair as they generally do not go wrong. The other guy when coming out for the 3rd time to his Toshiba TV said go Panasonic to, this was shortly after Samsung released the LED TV's and was told do not go near them were going out to at least 1 a day the reliability is awful, though i am guessing the technology may have matured a bit since then. My sister in law got a 42" LG LED TV this week, and just seen the picture tonight, its awful. Non HD picture was at best bad. I would never get anything but plasma once i get above 32", plus i prefer the blacks on them.
  22. I was in our last ofsted, they wanted to see our realtime reporting to parents and asked questions on how much its used etc
  23. Thought the password to Propagate was application ? There was the replicator account that had write access to the WINNT folder on the server, was handy too.
  24. I still have RM Connect 2.4 discs at home, might try and virtrualise an NT 4 Server box and install. As much as i dislike RM, the 2.4 product i feel actually did a good job of Managing 9x stations, as all the MS tools were more geared to clients running NT Workstation not Windows 95/98. I like RM Topic Manager....RM CC3 onwards is where i started to dislike RM. My last year at high school they installed RM Connect 2.2 (The one that ran NT 3.51 Server), Windows 95 clients. Was not allowed to use the network though, head of IT said i was a "threat" and not allowed to use a networked machine. Not my fault you leave the Admin2 password as changeme!
  25. I am sure it was on here, a few years ago, somebody pointed to an open source peice of software (think it was linux based), that allowed you to create a list of allowed MAC addresses, and if somebody plugged a computer in and it was not on the allow list all its traffic would get black holed. Am i dreaming or does this exist?
