  1. Does anybody have a script that would allow me to do the following quickly. I have my current users My Documents as their home folder. E:\Homes\Users\ To accomidate Windows 7 and its annoying feature of renaming every home folder to "Documents", i have decided to alter the structure. So i will have E:\Homes\%username%\My Documents instead. I am also moving it from 1 server to another. So i could do with a quick way of moving them. Say i map Y: as the new servers Homes folder during this process. E:\Homes\User\ to Y:\Homes\User\My Documents Hope that makes sense!
  2. I know how to turn windows features on and off with the unattend.xml for our deployments of windows 7. I can get our clients to install the RSAT for Windows 7, but you have to then manually turn them on from "Turn Windows features on and off". How can i get these to be turned on by default?
  3. I have got Sharepoint to filter a list using URL Querying using the FilterName and FilterMultiValue. For example i put this at the end of the AllItems.aspx? "&FilterName="Title"&FilterMultiValue=*"Printer" Works perfectly. Now i want to filter it twice. So i do "&FilterName="Title"&FilterMultiValue="Printer"&FilterName="Brand"&FilterMultiValue="HP" But the second filter never gets applied. Anybody know how i should be doing it?
  4. Cannot do that, as that only effects me. I need the default to be this for EVERYONE.
  5. OK, i am back on my Windows 7 laptop at the moment, and i am getting wound up. Anybody have a solution to why when i click the "Documents" library, i get items from under my user documents and the "public" documents, and how i can make it NOT show the public ones?I am getting folders listed twice with the same name, and it makes my head hurt, never mind the normal users. Right clicking on the "Documents" library, properties, and removing the Public folder from the list is not doable, because that will only do it for ME, what about everybody elses user account on the network. I have tried removing librarys using the adm templates somebody has made, that makes things worse, because on the save/open dialog windows i do not get a "My Documents" link on the left. I have loved every new MS OS Since Windows 3.0 and all its new features. I have agreed with most of their logic in changes, and enjoyed the new versions. Vista/7 is the first time this has not been the case and it seems like MS have made things longer to do, thats not making this easier, or advancing! It feels like MS have made everything now take 1 click more than it did before, for example these two things. Renaming a computer Windows 7, Right click "Computer", click "Advanced System Settings", Click Computer name tab, then "Change" Windows XP Right click "My Computer", click Computer name tab, then Change. Why does quickly finding my IP of the Wireless adaptor via a GUI now take longer? Windows 7, Click Wireless icon by clock, click "open network and sharing centre" , then click "Wireless Network Connection" Windows XP, Double click wireless icon, then click details tab. This is why my head hurts running Windows 7, things take longer, and have been moved not to make it quicker to get too, but to take it longer to get too! I wish i could have a few hours with the Vista/7 team, i have a few choice words for them! Now Office 2010, i love that, that is change for the better.
  6. Well been working hard trying to get Windows 7 working as we want on the network for the last 2 weeks, almost there, so been using nothing but 7 for the last few weeks. Returned to using Windows XP on my other laptop today and WOW, just WOW. Its such a pleasure to use, just as it says during install "A great new look" Anybody else find Windows 7 is just too "busy". Windows 7 looks very very nice, but when it comes to actually using it, my head just hurts, too much going on, the screen is so cluttered and tasks are taking so much longer to do. Control panel is just taking the p*ss now. I put it into classic mode and i get about 700 control panels! (Not actually 700, but feels like it). Do not even get me started on Librarys! Can see me keeping to XP on machines i have to use! I cannot be the only one who is trying to like 7, but it just hurts the head too much.
  7. I liked Windows 2000 Pro, very clean looking OS. When it came to the server version i much prefered 2003.....
  8. Have you not seen the rubbish they have pumped out to replace it? Windows Vista, Windows 7? No wonder people will not let go of XP. While 7 might not have as many annoyances as Vista and be more polished, its still a pain in the neck, and somebody at Microsoft needs burning/hanging for this.
  9. I am not liking the way LiteTouchPE_x86.wim keeps getting bigger and bigger the more drivers i add, and the fact its a boot image, so have to wait ages on machines for it to load the whole WIM and its only going to get longer. Why is there not a smaller Boot WIM to get it started first then pull down the larger image once you have clicked buttons.
  10. Can anybody tell me if the Windows 7 Evaluation CD/ISO is the same as the full one that you download from the Volume Licence site, difference being just the Key entered? As i know MS changed it all, before XP had to have a key entered, now with 7 you can decide not to enter a key and it runs in evaluation mode. Just bought a MS School agreement last week, but do not have access to the Volume Licence site yet as do not have an agreement number yet. Playing with Win7 deployment using eval download ISO, if its the same thing saves me a task.
  11. I did AD rename domain yesterday and all went well. We just have one annoying little niggle, outlook clients. They still have server.domaina.com instead of the new server.domainb.com in the exchange server name setting. So if we go into Mail Control panel, and try and change it, it reverts back. So i delete server.domaina.com and type in server.domainb.com click the check name button, and you see it undo my typing and put the old server address back in the box Where is it pulling this old name from? Where is it stored? I did run the xrd-fixup tool for exchange and the log showed it changed all references of the old domain to the new one.
  12. Thanks for the info. I think its still awful, why go to all that effort to create somthing which is still not what people in this thread seem to want, a simple MSI! Because again, it goes back to the orginal issue, i have just rebuilt a workstation, when will SIMS get installed? When will this Solous 3 V2 "agent" get installed? Straght away? After 2 days? When it feels like it? or am i going to have to manually install SIMS. Why do Capita "just not get it"
  13. If i remember correctly, at least with Vista, you had to phone Microsoft who would ask for you Windows Vista Key and exchange it for an XP Key if not Volume Licence. Not sure if they still do this now 7 is out.
  14. How else will i want software to be installed when a PC is rebuilt? Is SIMS going to just run from a mapped drive? For the obscene amount of money Capita take for SIMS i find the fact they do not offer an MSI for deploying SIMS to workstations shocking.
  15. Last post was well over a year ago, can anybody tell me if there is finally a Group Policy deployable MSI available from Capita?
  16. After googleing i cannot find a free peice of software to resize a partion in Windows Server 2003 (C: is low!) Whats the cheapest "pay" method, unless there is a freebie i do not know of.
  17. Our PC's are 50-60 seconds from power button to loaded desktop, and some of those are 6 years old, with 512MB RAM. 3 Minutes on a netbook/laptop is reasonable, but not for a hard wired machine.
  18. Just seen on phoenixs website under Select Licence Program Microsoft: Software Licensing "Access to Microsoft Volume Licence Services (MVLS), a password-protected, secure Web site that offers electronic access to purchase history, order confirmations, and other helpful resources that help you manage your licences with ease and confidence. " So i presume if we buy via them we will get access.
  19. We currently by our licences through the county. If we buy from else where say Ramasys or Insight will we get our own login to the MS Volume licence site so we can see keys allocated to us, and see our own licence information? We do not currently get that when buying through the county, which can make it harder to see how many licences you have, which basically currently involves mountains of copies of order forms. Also getting hold of the correct keys is a pain too. So if bought via Select Agreement would i get my own login for the agreement, and have all the keys available and a list of licences bought?
  20. Is that £11,500 a year?
  21. After even more reading, would a SESP Non-Institution wide agreement allow just the SIMS Server to be licenced like the school agreement way? http://www.microsoft.com/uk/education/schools/software-licensing/types-of-educational-licence/SESP-agreement/licensing-options.aspx I believe its a UK Pilot scheme for schools.
  22. Having read countless threads on the subject of MS Schools agreement licensing this morning, i think i am more confused that i was when I started, part of it I think is due to when the posts were made and things changing. So Question 1, do Specialist school status schools get any discount with the schools agreement? I found one thread that hinted specialist schools get something. Question 2, do you have to count all computers in the school or can you just do some? For example could we just do say SQL Server under the schools agreement? (Thinking those annoying SIMS updates that require you to spend £££ upgrading SQL Server) Question 3, reading the threads I see about £25 seems to be the going rate. So to be clear, its costs approximately £25 per machine for Windows, Office and the CAL for Windows Server, per year? Question 4, anybody got any paracitmol my head hurts.
  23. Our Moodle server is getting used lots now, and its becoming slow when many users are on. The server running it is a dual 3.2Ghz Xeon, and 1 Gig of RAM, Dell Poweredge from late 2006. When i check the server it is the CPU thats always hitting a 100% when users are on, and large SCORM content really kills it. We are looking to virtualise in the next year, if i use a physical to virtual machine converter will i get the benifit of the new CPU's? or will performance gain not be so great?
  24. Whats the "one off cost" ? Does your TV not have a HD Sat tuner built in? Do you not have a dish pointing at 28.2E ?
  25. I think it will be Lib Dem from me this time, always voted labour before, but there last term has been bad, and i think they are losing the plot now. No way on earth am i voting Tory, i do have some standards, they are twice as bad when it comes to taxes, remember their 80's run VAT went from 3% to 8%, then 8% to 15%, then John Major in the 90's put it up to 17.5%. I just hope many others vote Lib Dem too, as you get a bit sick of it always being between Labour and Tory.
