I do not understand why they pump out so many updates for a multiple choice peice of software.

We went down the Elastix route, Asterisk with a more friendly interface and all needed extras added in. I had never touched VoIP or telephoney before and within 2 months it was fully up and operational on the whole site, and i had lots of fun learning. There is a massive manual you can download for elastix that covers almost everything. Get an old computer, install Elastix, and softphones and have a play, see if you can get internal calls working and how easy you find it to operate. For "outside calls" we got an ISDN 30e line installed for £1000, and just rent 8 channels at £14.50 a month each.

Looking at moving away from our LA Internet and moving to our own. If we do were going to use Smoothwall for our filtering and firewall. Our current setup is we have 8 public IP's, which are mapped to Internal IPs with just the ports required opened up, so no DMZ. So with Smoothwall i could do the same, but i am under the impression that a more secure design is to have a DMZ and put all internet facing services in that little network instead of the main, so if a server gets attacked, they cannot see the internal network, just other servers in the DMZ. But then i start to look at things like Terminal Server, should that sit in the DMZ or the core network?, as that will need quite a few rules opened up between the DMZ and the core network. Insight, (real time reporting to parent software) that needs to communicate with the SIMS SQL Server, so more rules. So with the amount my internet facing servers have to talk to servers on the internal network is it just easier to stick with the current design of 2 networks (Internet, Internal) or go for 3 Network Design (Internet, DMZ, Internal) ?

When i phoned them, they said if you agree to 5 years, its £12,000 a year for "unmanaged" 100Megabit. No setup/install charge they said for Big Red too. Still waiting for an official quote, but keep missing there phone call.

Were very seriously looking and moving away from the LA broadband due to years of annoyances. We have been looking at Virgins Big Red internet as its pricing seems very good. Obviously we would need a router for it, can one of these Smoothwall Appliances be used for it? As we need a plan for filtering and firewall, and i think i am right in thinking that a Smoothwall appliance box can do what i want? or will i need a router then the router going into the smoothwall box?

Can anybody who has support direct with Capita for SIMS tell me roughly how much they pay. Just want to compare a rough price against LEA cost, other threads never seem to give any £££££

I went from 17st 11lbs (Sept 10) to 14st 5lbs now (Feb 11) and it still slowly going down. I eat/drink what i want, no stupid/silly diets that are not sustatinable for life. Most evenings i have the deep fat fryer going or a takeaway. During the day i am eating crisps/chocolate and normal tasty coke, not that diet rubbish that tastes nasty. Just follow Paul McKenna's i can make you thin, it works, and it makes sense. I was stupid enough to believe years ago you had to go on diets to lose weight, and thats half the reason i put weight on.

When i worked part time at Esso it got changed in the afternoon because Mark came on shift and he was responsable for doing the price change. So it could just be for the same reason where you are seeing it. Always remember the day he accidently put 0.089p instead of 0.89p for the super unleaded on the till, i got a bargin that day on my full tank, and so did a few other motorists.

Just curious how other schools go about esafety. I have noticed that Ofsted seem to prefer the managed instead of locked down approach. We had an incident a few weeks ago where a student had been using a proxy site in school to get on to a web based MSN client and this girl had been chatting to this old man and was going to go meet her, (and it got graphic) securus picked it up and we got parents in and they were very happy we had caught it, and after words the girl agreed it was stupid of her to think about going to meet him. So do any schools allow social networking/instant messenger but monitor, teach and make them understand the risks them selfs or is everyone fully locked down?

Not sure how to describe what i am trying to do, but i will try. The Bursar is trying to let go of Lotus notes as he is the only person not using Office in the school. One thing he can do is he can make a word processing document in lotus, and have like a text box almost, but it looks just like a normal line of text and it might say and when you click on of the text it dissappears and allows you to type your name in that area. I am sure i have seen this done in Word, how do i do it in Word 2010?

Well i am not happy with Question 8! Question 8: Windows 95 books buzzed about making changes to the Windows Registry. From an administrative perspective, which of the following will assist you to enforce registry settings, without permanently altering or "tattooing" the registry? They have both Group Policy and System Policy Editor listed. Since System Policy Editor was used to do what Group Policy does on Windows 95/98/NT 4 and they talk about Windows 95 in the opening statement which is pre group policy what would you think the correct answer would be!!!

Had Joomla running on our IIS 6 box fine, but needed to install something that required .NET 4 on the same server today. Now Joomla is working, but i have to specify the exact URL for everything now, so where as http://www.schoolsite.com/administrator use to bring up the back end administrator i now get what look like asp errors like "Server Error in '/' Application." But if i specifiy http://www.schoolsite.com/administrator/index.php it loads. The default document in IIS is set to index.php, if i disable .net support i get page cannot be displayed when trying /administrator without specifiying index.php. So why has IIS stopped looking for and loading index.php when specifiying just the folder?

I am thinking of trying to get MSCE's or somthing to backup my experience with some qualifications. After running a Vanilla XP/Server 2003 network for 7 years, and now 2008 Server and Windows 7, as well as experence in NT 4/Windows 2000 i am guessing a lot of courses will be showing me what i already know. Whats the best and easiest way for me to get Certified?

Having an issue with some HP Printers, mainly those which drivers come built in to Windows 7 and Server 2008 R2. Our Print Server is 64 Bit, Windows 7 Clients 32 bit. Windows Server 2008 has no problem automatically adding the drivers when i create the que, and it works fine. When i try to add it to a client it says no drivers found, because there is no 32 bit driver installed on the server. So i go to add additional drivers, tick 32 bit, and it wants the driver location. Thats where the problem starts. Because Windows 7 comes with the drivers built in, HP do not have them for download, and say just plugging in the USB cable should make it automatically install. So how do i get my hands on the Windows 7 Driver for the HP 895Cxi HP K550 HP K5400 HP 8000 I have tried the universal print driver for HP and it comes out in mono on these colour printers by default. Any advice?

Are you using http://mailserver/owa or https://mailserver/owa ? We found that if we did not use https then it would freeze/lockup/crash OWA. On IE8 and IE7 anyway. -
I want to assosiate .pdf with Adobe Reader, currently opening in Adobe Photoshop. I noticed Group Policy Preferences has this under Per Machine, i cannot get it to work.
