I love this bit, "When Windows was first created 25 years ago, the assumptions about the world and what computing could do and how people were going to use it were completely different. It was at a desk, with a monitor. " Hmm they very people who i believe mainly have issues with Windows 8 are those at a desk with a monitor... and i bet a HUGE amount of PC's are still used this way in esspecially in the work place or education, which is why the Pro/Enterprise versions should have shipped with a start menu and been desktop not metro by default!

Geovisions new stuff is IP based with POE, we have just started moving to it as the Geovision stuff is great. There new Fisheye cams are just amazing.

Had they kept the Start Menu/Desktop as default, made metro an option or default on a tablet edition and not washed out all colour and life i would be thinking about deploying Windows 8 soon, because everything else about Windows 8 is good, i have always liked the ribbon in Office so bringing it to explorer i like, its quicker, direct access is much easier in it. But i should not have to take anti sickness tablets everytime i use it from the flicking between metro and where i want to be desktop, and i should not have to buy endless paracitmol from the headaches of this rubbish GUI. I managed to flick to Mac OS no problem and i enjoy it, so its not because its different, its because it is actually trash and badly designed.

Windows 8 Pro in a Server 2008 environment - any issues?
Quackers replied to mo_vigilante's topic in Windows 8
You will just need to install on the Windows 8 PC Download: RSAT for Windows 8 - Microsoft Download Center - Download Details and edit the Group Policys using the Windows 8 PC. The staff might swear a bit if they find Windows 8 on a computer though, i know i would. -
We do it 54 cameras and counting.... much prefer the newer Geovision IP stuff less hastle to install.

David Davies 'Most parents do not want gay children'
Quackers replied to gmonks's topic in General Chat
Its not like they choose to be gay, but the goverment is choosing to make life hard for them. Would not suprise me if David Davies was a closet case since he has such an agenda against them. -
Is Windows Home Server ie Microsoft Windows Home Server 2011 | Ebuyer.com a valid product to 'upgrade' to Windows 7 via ESS?

Give elastix ago, and if you need help with the command line just ask in here. You only need vi command to edit config files, then its just press INSERT key to edit, then :x to save and exit, done. I am not very good with Linux but i can get around easy now for what i need. We run 3 schools (soon to be 4) here on Elastix and its just great for the price, free

Can anybody shed any light on if there are any massive differences between these AP's? Apart from over £100? The site i am thinking of getting them for does not need the 5 Ghz band, so no need for the 7363's, but noticed these 7341's and wondering why they are so cheap in comparison to 7343.

We went VoIP 3-4 years ago and used Elastix which is free, and got some SIP phones , and used an ISDN30e line. No need to buy these systems, Elastix is very easy to configure

Chrome will bring about the ICT revolution in schools

Now why can Acer not release that Acer C7 as a Windows option for just a little bit more, as its better spec'd than a netbook but at the same price if you pop a Windows licence on. -
Christmas is the best one, 2 weeks off. If your not enjoying it your doing it wrong. The best Christmas i had was 2010. First day off, thought i want a holiday, went the travel agents booked for spain and spent 27th to 3rd there was great. I put my Tree up last night, i love the lights. Sounds like you need to stop doing what you do every year at christmas as your not enjoying it and do somthing else with your christmas holiday so in future you look forward to it.

Anybody come across this annoying issue Windows 8 has caused yet? When using a KMS Server the machines will not activate unless the manufacture has put a flag in the SLIC table on the BIOS to indicated that it shipped with a Windows Licence (so its eligable for upgrade). This was SLIC 2. We have this week taken a shiney new Acer laptop that shipped with Windows 8, and has a new type of BIOS. This uses SLIC type 3 or 4. So the laptop refused to activate against our KMS Server when we installed our Windows 7 image because it did not have the flag saying it shipped with a Windows Licence and demanded i enter a MAK key instead. I phoned Acers support number and they were no use at all, i had to get it escelated and they got back to me today with tools to flash the BIOS to an older version number, one that supports SLIC 2. That has worked. But has anybody else come across this issue with machines which have shipped with Windows 8 yet? If its common could be a lot of us having a knightmare flashing hundreds of BIOS's.

Devising a new backup plan for Virtualised servers
Quackers replied to zag's topic in Windows Server 2008 R2
Have you tried HV Backup - Home We use it for our 2008 R2 Hyper V's. Works great creates backups while the Hyper V is running. So we just write a few batch files and schedule them for how often we want the backup to take place. (We have a standard PC with many TB's of disk space in another building that we copy the backups to). -
Yes as the primary desktop OS, i have no issues with Windows 8 on a tablet, but i can just see, my self including clinging on to 7 purely because it has a start menu. I think it will out live Windows XP.
