Tim -if you don't want them using some of what you consider to be the more advanced features then in the site administration>modules>activitie>manage acitivities just hide them with the "eye" and they won't appear in courses. Same with blocks or resources

apt I really don't agree with self promotion at all on free ideas-sharing forums but if you are worried about your primary school teachers offloading the work onto you then why not get them a copy of my book (see profile) as I wrote it specifically from experience of training Lancashire primary school teachers ( I am not connected to Lancashire ICT tech consultants btw - I'm a non-ICT teacher who Moodles)Find a site that will get you a free download and print if off if you like;)

I disagree that Moodle works better with older children - it can be made pretty and teachers can be shown how to use it with reception up to year 6 -it's just a question of how you present it to them - I train technophobic primary teachers to use Moodle every week and use it with Y5 and Y6 myself - I have a video I can send you privately if you wish (pupil names on it hence not public) to give you an idea of primary Moodle use.

We use the standard theme as we don't have FTP access to sort out an alternative one (although we could ask our hosts CLEO to do this for us, to be fair) We're not into having a fancy smooth professional website - it is a community effort made and managed by teachers - basically everything you see on the front page is open access to guests. Parents count as guests to us -we haven't yet sorted parent logins to see their children's information. To see the courses you need to have a login. (although obviously if you are savvy enough to know the URL for the course categories you can see our courses but not enter them - but most casual guests wouldn't realise that) www.olchs.lancs.sch.uk

Ivn - I suggest you ask on the dedicated Moodle quiz forum here http://moodle.org/mod/forum/view.php?id=737 and in fact Tim Hunt is your man - he does the Moodle quiz and is around pretty much all the time. (Are you working on 1.9 or 2.o?)

Hi there. I'm trying to understand but not sure I do: say for example your teacher who last year had course 423-1? Their students will have left now and they want new students for this year in that course, yes? So I would back up the course and save it to disk (not on Moodle necessarily) then reset it to get rid of current user data and then import the new students. If you back all the courses up (so you have got user data saved for this academic year) then reset all the courses then you can import the classes into the existing courses with an appropriately formatted csv file but I am sorry I don't know about LDAP and whether that would conflict) On a separate issue it looks like your teachers have a course per class - I would also personally, , try to encourage the teachers to share courses using groups.

Hi. With respect to beeswax, don't use the survey module that is already in Moodle as you can't alter the questions in any way. For what we think of as a survey you would need to download and install the nonstandard modules Questionnaire (or feedback) You can get these from Moodle.org: open-source community-based tools for learning and click on the downloads tab and then modules and plugins - search for Questionnaire. You will need to install it on your server - there are instructions on moodle for installing non standard modules (or I did a video here ) Then when installed, go to your course and turn on the editing and have a play adding your own choice of questions. (edit - I expect someone might come along and say that free online surveys such as surveymonkey are easier but better long term to have a built-in Moodle survey module. Just rmember the confusion -Moodle's "survey" = useless - use "questionnaire" or "feedback" instead)

I am in a CLEO school and it is definitely still maintained -worth asking on Moodle.org and Dan Poltawski who I believe made it is also on here from time to time. Incidentally, the [[sectiontitle]] ought not to stop it from working -that just means it hasn't found the language file (or something)but it doesn't mean it doesn't work necessarily.

Hi there First of all - is this the Pearson livetext that I just googled here? Free KS3 English Teaching Resources Haven't heard of it before but if it is, then read on. (and if it isn't, then sorry; I got the wrong link!) 1. Do you have permission to use it on your Moodle? I am Moodle admin and have been asked before "will you just put this onto Moodle" commercial program/software but you need a licence; you can't just dump it there 2. I notice you say CD - it might be that you have a CD for showing on a network or in class but that doesn't mean it will work via Moodle. If you want a workable Moodle version then these companies like Pearson usually make VLE compatabile (allegedly) versions in SCORM format and you would have to use that. Is your CD the basic CD or is it a Moodle-specific VLE one?

This has been bugging me for a week or two and I wondered if you techo people could advise? Since the "changeover" my own Moodle 2.0 test site and the official Moodle 2.0 test site Moodle QA Testing Site display at my school as if they are not connecting to the theme. My school uses IE8 but I have checked in compatability mode and it doesn't make a difference. I know these sites work in IE8 at home and they worked fine before the "change" so it has to be something to do with the filtering - or else something within my school, but I can't imagine what. Anyone have any idea so I can get it fixed please?

Well not quite clear as mud because I know what you mean But despite living in CLEO land I don't use the CLEO tool - and don't venture into the moodle db -but if I were wanting to do what you wanted to -ie enrol students into the courses in one go I'd just do it with a csv file - as long as you get the fields right you can enrol directly into a course or courses (in fact you can enrol into a group in a course, which is what we do rather than having a course per group/set/class whatever you call them) Issue is of course you'd have to get the set lists yourself into csv rather than having it all set up in SIMS.

Are you saying you want a mechanism to actually create courses automatically for you? AFAIK the only way to do this (and I haven't tried it) is the bulk course upload tool script here: Moodle.org: Modules and plugins but it's not linked to your CLEO tool

If you have RSS enabled then you should get the orange RSS icon in the forum and if you click on that it will give you the RSS xml feed that you can use - is that what you meant?

I will second CS New Media - in terms of speed of response and personal service - and being "human" they are second to none. I have several Moodles hosted with them and have recommended them to other schools who have taken me up on the recommendation

Why not just insert the Moodle logo to your WP text box and link it to the URL of the login page on your moodle? (target="blank") or whatever?

Hi there. Not quite sure what you mean by "profile page" unless you mean a page about them that everyone else can see? Unless you have disabled it they can edit their own user profile and can change their default photo there - perhaps you can give them a folder of images on your network that they could choose from to represent themselves? Or else there is the blog option in their own profile where they can attach photos too so they would only need to type one word and then the rest of the blog posts can include images. (sorry if I misunderstood you!)

A really good admin book is Alex Buchners's Moodle 1.9 Admin Depending on the age of your pupils, if it's for teaching I could't possibly comment!

Are you using MS Word 2007? That's the only one I have and if you click on the "view" tab of the ribbon there is an option "gridlines" - if you have a tick in there, take it out and that should do it
