Thats true, id never pay for maintenance on anything like that, once its in it never breaks.. its a con. That said, unifis quick development/update style can be good and bad if you happen to be one of the edge cases that pup up occasionally!

did you open up the mobility admin http://mobilityserverip:9164/admin/ click select printers and tick the ones you want broadcasted right?

yeah sounds like you might get away with switching it to MDNS mode and adding another network adapter to the VM then restarting the mobility service that should advertise it to the chromebooks

Ooops its not known hosts its the DNS option. the plugin should query the dns server for them and "just work" It is also possible to push a config to the chrome plugin that might get around it, dont think google auth works if you do that tho - if they use AD though that will cover you

If you open the mobility admin panel it will say discovery method, click that and select known hosts and it will give you some commands to run on your dns server to create the required records. If possible you can also just give the print server a connection to the wifi vlan and it will broadcast on that too if youd rather not mess with the dns stuff

do your chromebooks have network ports on them? worth trying a cabled one just to be sure! our mobility print just worked in all school excep the one where we had network optomisation/multicast filtering enabled. If its on another subnet to the mobility server you will need to configure it on a DNS level using the known hosts method. Windows is configured to connect direct to the mobility server instead of discovering it

Do you have any multicast "enhancements" or other multicast limiting settings ticked on the wifi? pretty sure this blocked it on one of our schools networks

you would still want them supervised using Apple configurator or DEP. this lets you manage and secure them properly as some functions only work when supervised

thats is probably outside the TOS and shouldnt be doing it.

In that case if you go into LS as shown below, you will see the devices assigned and that they have the setup profile assigned against them - if so you should be good to reset/enrol something

it may be that the block takes precident, and applies to devices - should be an easy one to test either way but from what i understand it wont

Lightspeed is crap to be honest - Looks like you also have to Manually assign the DEP profile too.. if its already done its initial activation you will need to set it up then do a factory reset to force it to download the "new" activation instructions. usually takes 15/30 minutes to all sync up as long as the LS end is configured as required. i know in jamf i can see the assigned devices status so can see when theyre ready - not sure how this compares to current ls The default setting is pretty much When new device is assigned to dep auto assign it to this mdm server. so you should be good going forward

Im also fairly certain you have to create a setup config somewhere to tell it what setup options to skip/display i dont have a ls instance to look at but it was in the general/global settings and apple/dep if iremember right

If the devices were enrolled before you changed that default the devices will need manually assigned. if you go to Devices and select all and point them to your ls server its should push them in. takes half hour to sync usually though

if you you have an onsite applicance inspecting, try adding the cert of the DFE filtering to your appliance. you would still need to put your filters cert on the laptops like but id assume it would fix it

are they from known domains? like another school for example? this should just be a case of adding to the whitelist in your google admin panel if so.

id be careful with those.... Ive had one recently have a power supply blow up, "frankensteined" it back to life with afull atx PSU hanging out on a shelf while the replacement took 4 months to arrive from china.... which then blew up 2 months later... so its been frankensteined again for over a year.. to be fair ive replaced the server in the meantime just not got around to turning the olf one off

If theyre using personal computers id agree. If theyre using school issued equipment and/or internet I would say you need to provide filtering.

Are both chromebooks enterprise enrolled?

Whilst this has been the case spread around our trust if you have an internal outbreak it becomes a bit more unmanagable - Weve only got by because a sa trust we have mobilised all of our already on hand equipment between the schools. 1 Full school closure so far - but around 5 have had partial. It would have made sense for them to have blocked people from ordering more than they require at the time. We did this as we deemed it in the spirit of the programme, if everyone cast their lot their would have been people without once the stock ran out. and now weve been shafted for doing so. in one school we went from over 100 allocated to 20... whilst the wording seems to lead me to beleive their may be a bit more room to dispute requirements as you need them now its more red tape for an already slow/convoluted proccess
