  1. A known issue - we had one and just binned it as was getting old and they are massive !
  2. I'm still using Tape backup 13 years on! The most protected way that backups can be stored if the system is compromised and needs restoring. Full daily backups.
  3. I back up to UNC paths without any problems.
  4. McAfee are aware of it already , just received an email If your running McAfee with EPO preventative measure listed here: https://kc.mcafee.com/corporate/index?page=content&id=KB89335&elqTrackId=080d6d6426f34a2fb9b7fae0ca16d59a&elq=3d5138920ef74ddb92416987b1588a80&elqaid=7257&elqat=1&elqCampaignId=4054
  5. Just don't see any difference between the anniversary release and creators.. may just have to revert back to anniversary.
  6. It's an i5 laptop with an SSD. Working 100% without issues on anniversary release so not sure why creators edition should be any different.
  7. I have a laptop which was working fine on the Anniversary version of windows 10. I have updated it to the latest update (march 2017) but after a few minutes of use the laptop freezes - no disk activity, the mouse moves but keyboard doesnt respond. only way is to switch it off to crash it out and reboot, but then the same happens again. What could be causing this? I've also clean installed from the new updated release ISO with all the same drivers and still sticks. Any ideas?
  8. Not to worry I found it in the docs; #NoTrayIcon
  9. Works - but how do you stop them exiting the tray icon and restoring access - is there a silent switch or something to not show the UI? thanks.
  10. Thank you I will give that a go !
  11. I have disabled the task view icon but students know they can use windows key and tab to create new desktops. How does everyone get round this as the student can have websites, games etc open on 1 desktop, but then have their work open on another . thanks.
  12. What about servers - is it necessary?
  13. What do other schools do? Do you encrypt staff laptops and only allow encrpyted usb devices ?
  14. Where's the best place to find out what schools need to have in place to comply with the new GDPR policy that is coming out, such as do we have to only allow encrypted usb devices etc to comply , do staff laptops have to be encrypted etc etc... Thanks
  15. All our school data is split per physical server, rather than array. I have 7,8,9's on 1 server (Quotas), 10 and 11's on another (quota), then then students shared drives are on another (no quota) so in the event of any failure of a server, students can save elsewhere , touch wood never needed to do though. Staff data is then on another server, no quotas.
  16. No Policy, but SLT Request!
  17. We have on-site exchange however we always leave the Year 11 accounts open until the end of August so they can be emailed about exam results etc. on the 1st September each year they are disabled.
  18. Last holidays i demoted one of my DCs, re-installed clean with 2016, ran dc promo, no issues here. Wasn't holding any FSMO roles though, just GC and AD integrated DNS. Clients are logging on fine through it.
  19. Windows Server Backup? - I don't back up the host, just the VMs.. Easy to just reinstall windows and hyper-v role then re-point to the VHD files if data drive OK. If complete failure, just restore the vm from the backup. I even restored a physical server onto a VM the other day and worked fine, so does what i need.
  20. The word Dell always makes me cringe! bad experiences put me off for life! I had more issues with an inherited dell (after a merge) than i have in my HPs of which some are still running 7 years on without a part failure! Despite the old G5 servers only having support up to 2008 R2, i've got 1 happily running on server 2016
  21. Depending on your smartboard models, there is a newer driver on the smart website that we had to download to get them interacting with windows 10
  22. As a Pro photographer outside by IT work it's always best to invest in glass than bodies! Glass investment will last longer than a body. It doesn't matter how many megapixels a camera has, it will not improve your images. You need to learn the basics of photography and the exposure triangle! Only update your camera if you really need features such as speed for sports, or low light capabilities. take a look at the video below! RANT: If You Think Your Camera / Gear Is Holding You Back, Look In The Mirror | Fro Knows Photo
  23. It fixed all my others problems on the Anniversary release!
  24. I've tried all sorts to either revert those random machines that have our custom logon background back to the default, and those with the default, back to our own, without success.
  25. I'm not sure what even on a working system i.e our Windows 7 PCs, that just removing the policy will revert it, as would need to point to the original bmp, jpg etc?
