Student share with edit, but not delete. Can this be done?

Check that you are applying it to 'this folder and all subfolders' ? -
TSO for us also - moved our sch.uk domain to them when the LEA stopped hosting external DNS. No issues since

I backup my physical servers using Windows Server Backup - all fine if a hyper-v is restore to hyper-v , or physical to physical. However, as soon as I try to restore a physical backup to a VM it fails as says the disk in the BIOS is not large enough or words to that effect so it won't restore (running the 2012 r2 disk and select repair my computer and selecting the backup) All physical servers have a 146 RAID 1 array, so i create a 150gb fixed size VM, but still get the same error. What am i doing wrong or is this not possible? I'm thinking for Disaster recovery purposes if a physical server blew up and didn't have a spare physical server, how i'd recover it toa VM - all backups are selected with bare metal recovery included.

Thanks for this - how much of the customised install does it reset after an update is installed? i have all my users set with a custom OWA policy along with other settings. are they retained? Hopefully going to restore an ad backup and exchange to test environment first if i can find somewhere to put a 500gb database!
-
Think i'll restore a DC and exchange into a test envrionment first!

They are, although I believe there was a dot net version issue so want to jump in multiple steps rarther than jump straight in with the latest. Exchange server has been solid for 3 years on Cu8 (no issues whatsoever) and get scared updating it!!

Hi Does anyone have any older CU Updates they could possibly share with me? I'm on CU8 and only 17 and 18 is available to download from microsoft. I've read about .net issues and recommends updating to CU15 first. Anyone who can help me out so i can get onto teh latest update without any issues would be great. Thanks.

Ran Windows Update - all up to date.

Can anyone just clarify if what i'm stating above is true that they've just downloaded data from outside the EU and from the US as this surely goes against the regulations of storing data in the EU and GDPR ?
-
Thats where i thought it was meant to be stored - can anyone confirm on the above?

I had a user today that wanted to download some files from another schools onedrive (we don't use it) Unfortunately, we block the download of ZIP files so had to add the sharepoint url into teh whitelist (but that didn't work) When downloading a complete folder (which comes as a ZIP) it was being blocked at: northeurope1-mediap.svc.ms Curious to know where this is, it's location/IP shows as being in north america. Can this be clarified as appears the data is NOT within the EU?

Thanks, however just realised a typo - i'm currently on CU8 not 4.

I've had an exchange 2013 server running happily since install on Cumulative update 8- no issues and dont touch it. In preparation for migrating to exchange 2016 i need to up the CU number. I notice on the website I can now only download CU 17 and 18. Should there be any issues with applying the latest update 18 jumping from CU 8? Is a Windows Server Backup sufficient if the update fails? If it does, could i just restore the whole image (C and Data Drive) prior to applying the update and everything be working as before or does it have to be a clean install with theSetup /m:RecoverServer then restore just the database? Thanks

Thanks for this - how would this work if i'm importing from an XLS sheet? Assuming there will be quite a bit of difference in some of the code.

Finally Resolved this myself! Just not sure why I had one server that did't have SMB2 and 3 configured - despite it being enabled via powershell, i had to run the commands to change the lanmanworkstation dependancies. Noticed in the Event viewer for Microsoft > SMB Client, the following error: The SMB 3 and SMB 2 driver is not configured with the default start type. Default Start Type: DEMAND_START Configured Start Type: DISABLED Guidance: You should expect this event when disabling SMB2/SMB3 for the client using SC.EXE or editing the Windows registry. Microsoft does not recommend disabling SMB2/SMB3. Disabling SMB2/SMB3 prevents use of features such as SMB Transparent Failover, SMB Scale Out, SMB Multichannel, SMB Direct (RDMA), SMB Encryption, VSS for SMB file shares, and SMB Directory Leasing. SMB provides alternative troubleshooting workarounds to disabling SMB2/SMB3 in most cases. Therefore, i ran the commands: sc.exe config lanmanworkstation depend= bowser/mrxsmb10/mrxsmb20/nsi sc.exe config mrxsmb20 start= auto Rebooted the server and bingo, could access the windows 10 creators fall Pc with SMB 1 disabled!

i updated my workstation to Windows 10 1709 release (clean install) and found out that 1 server (2012 r2) will no longer access the client via UNC path by DNS name, or IP address All other servers including other 2012 R2 servers will access the 1709 client without any issues. Looking at the 1709 update details i discovered SMB1 is disabled by default so I ran powershell and enabled SMB1 and rebooted the client. The 2012 r2 server which couldnt access the 1709 client before CAN now.. Why would this particular server only be trying to connect to the 1709 client via SMB1 where as all other 2012 servers will connect to it with SMB1 disabled on the client. PLease could anyone shed any light on this? Thanks For some odd reason, running get-smbconnection from the problematic server with SMB1 enabled on the WIndows PC it is conncting at version 1.50 However, if i leave SMB1 enabled on the windows 10 client and run get-smbconnection from another 2012 r2 server it is using version 3.02 For some reason the problematic server only seems to want to connect at 1.5 so when it's disabled that server is the only one which will not connect.

Just applied the creators fall to a computer - why are the network drives now smaller with a blank large white space next to the icons??! What's going to show there? Applied it at home , same issue and it also wiped out my VPN connections so had to re-make those. If it aint broke, don't fix it haha

I can as it is accessible to login and view all the apps. Time is sync'd.

Nope, valid until August 2019.

I've had a RemoteAPP server deployed for a number of years, no changes been made at all to it. Today, I get an email from an off-site user saying that they are unable to access any apps, the user can log in, but as soon as launch an app they get 'can not connect to the remote computer because the remote desktop gateway server is unavailable, please try again later" thinking it's just a glitch I reboot the server , wait for all to initialise and get them to try again - same issue (but had been able to access yesterday with no issues) So I try it on the internal network clients (where the server is hosted) - same issue same error I test it directly on the RDS server - on launching the app I get prompted for credentials, try logging in but credentials are rejected so cannot get any further. So, I then test it from home - works perfect I then test on a laptop through my phones tethered 4g connection - works fine. Anyone know whats going on here when it was working fine yesterday, why would it work externally for me but not others? I've even restored the VM to 2 days ago and getting the same error!

I have a SQL database table which I import from Excel. Every time I update the xls I have to delete the current table and re-import all the records as it's just a source data table. The XLS sheet has 1 column which is always unique so is there a way to check this against existing entries and only enter the new ones rather than creating duplicates? The XLS comes from another program which exports the source data. Thanks in advance.

So, some people think the cloud is the best thing since sliced bread for many a reasons. I've just installed and setup Google File Stream, which great we get 1.0EB of data storage! More than i'll ever need in a lifetime. However, it appears that any kind of file can be saved to it. autorun.inf executable files etc With local file access FSRM can be used to block these types of files. I'd like to know how secure all this cloud file access really is, and how file management can be restricted with file types.
