Oh, that's different to how our installers did it then. They just put a relay link from the fire panel to the nearest ACU, then in event of trigger, it will alert the net2 server, and send the request to all the other ACUs to release the maglocks and open gates.

I've inherited a 2 host, 1 san network currently running esxi 5.0.0 i understand that I can upgrade to 5.5 using the existing license which will then allow support of Windows Server 2016. As a Hyper-V expert, what it the upgrade process for Esxi? Do i need to move all VMS off the host to the second host, upgrade the 1st host via bootable disk, then move the VMs back from Host 2 to Host 1 with the new version? What about drivers, and iscsi links to the datastores on the SAN..i assume they have to be reconfigured through the Vsphere client? Any advise or help guides would be appreciated! Thanks!

If you want the maglocks to disable in the event of a fire alarm, there always has to be a connection to the server running the net2 software.

I've taken over a network which is using Lightspeed for their filtering. I have set up a Guest WIFI VLAN so the client gets an IP from the DHCP server and can ping through to the core switch which has an interface IP for both VLAN 1 and 40 (guest VLAN). How do i get the client to access the internet through the lightspeed and get the captive portal login (same as a pc on VLAN if doesnt have the agent) so users can login with AD credentials. How do i get the traffic from the guest VLAN 172.x.x.x range to get through the lightsppeed on the 10.x.x.x range. Lightspeed box has the 172 range added as a network, but does the port on the core switch that the lightspeed is connected to need to have tagged ports also and what would the GW IP be for the client? if any clarification on what i'm trying to achieve is required, please let me know. Fixed it and it does work via GPO. It was a corrupt profile so after resetting the one I was testing with, the drives appeared.

I have one non RM network with RemoteAPP, a user launches File Explorer and see all the mapped drives. Another site has RM CC4 and setting up remote app with file explorer exactly the same way. on launching file explorer all users see their home drives but no other mapped drives on the cc4 I created a policy with a drive map and applied to the server - when I login as administrator to the server I get the drive. However any other user doesn't. Can anyone assist as to why when users launch explorer they don't see all the drives as would logging on to a computer locally in school. Thanks.

We are moving our sites back to on site servers using wordpress like we used to. they got moved externally but with more downtime and issues than when hosted on site and company wanting 70 quid to add a new tab it's a joke. if a major disaster on site just change the dns records to point to another server elsewhere. their website couldn't cope with the adverse weather whereas onsite we were fine in previous years.

I guess i could start with the new intake being synchronised when they set their passwords then it'll eventually work it's way through the 5 years rotation either when students change password or get the 5th year intake.

Thanks. is there definitely no way to sync existing AD passwords to Google like MS office 365 does without having to get users to change their AD password first for it to then sync?

I've installed the Google user synchronisation tool which successfully syncs AD users to Google with their email address and currently set to use a set password for all new users. I want to change it so that like office 365 it sync AD passwords too. I looked at the following page which says to use the password sync I have to upgrade to G Suite basic, but this appears chargeable? https://support.google.com/a/answer/2611859?hl=en Is that correct that the password sync will not work with the free GCDS that i have installed?

Sounds like you might do yourself out of a job - remove all the IT , put it in the cloud, give them the support numbers and say goodbye! Much rather everything on-site, 100% uptime during school hours, choose when to upgrade, train users before major changes and solve issues as and when they occur without waiting. users are so reliant on IT.

All the VPN clients just shows as RAS and the name of the VPN server so not sure how it would distinguish which client is which by reserving?

Hi, I have a server 2016 set up with Routing and Remote Access for VPN Access to the network. Windows 10 client using default settings gets a DHCP ip from the normal range. However, i want to assign a static IP address to the client that connects. In the SSTP VPN properties, i have set the static IP and the DNS servers, but it will not successfully connect. I get an error saying "a connection could not be established, might need to change the settings for the connection. How can i ensure that a client always connects with the same IP address? As soon as i select obtain automatically it connects successfully. Thanks

I use the built in Temperature on APC UPS units with the 2 levels - one for temperature warning (if 1 of the 2 air cons fail, just tips it over this temp level), then the critical level (if both units were to fail) Emails are sent on APC self test, AC power loss/restore , and the 2 temperature levels when triggered i'll know if one unit has failed. Works good enough for my needs without additional hardware.

I have one school with a local exchange server, currently syncing to Google so they can use Google for Education Google Drive all working fine. Another school have their emails on office 365. As the other schools users don't have their email address showing in AD how would i sync the users email addresses in Office 365 to be the same in google drive? Thanks

I have half resolved this - Routing was not enabled on the switch so i can now ping the second VLAN's interface IP address, however i cannot access the internet. The PC is configured on VLAN 1 , same as the lightspeed box - if i specify the proxy IP on vlan 1 in IE then it works, but normally i just have to open IE and with auto detect selected i can gain access. On the HP core switch it's default gateway address is that of the site's internet router, same as any DHCP assigned address. Any advice why it won't auto detect the proxy when using the core switch as the gateway ?

Hi, Looking for some help on HP Switches and Core switch 5406 inter-vlan routing. On D-Link switches, i added a new VLAN (40) to a core switch, added an IP interface to the VLAN. On a client I can set a static IP using the core switch as the default gateway IP address and I can ping from the client to both the VLAN 1 and other VLAN (40) on a different IP range and also access the internet using it as the gateway. On the HP 5406 I have added a new VLAN (40), and assigned an IP to it When i add static ip address to client and use the HP as default gateway I cannot ping the newly added VLAN IP address interface or gain internet access using it as a gateway. What am i missing on the HP? Thanks.

When using Passwords with bitlocker without TPM module, how do you choose a password. Do you set it for the user, or let the user choose their own? However, if a staff member uses their own password and they bring the laptop in for repair/updates, you would have to ask the user for their own password rather than there being ad admin over-ride or how would you get around this without the user needing to share their password?
