If I then need to target different policies for Staff and Student how would I do this What settings do I need for the security filtering/delegation?

Do I need to add anything extra to the query for 64 bit version?

How do i create a GPO that will apply user settings to just computers that are on windows 10? Do i need to use some kind of WMI filtering or security filtering? Is it possible to link Windows 10 policies to the same OUs that have windows 7 policies on or is it required to have them separate? If you apply all GPOs to an OU will 7 specific ones apply to 7 and 10 specific ones to 10? I've tried creating user and computer policies which work is i put a users in a new OU, assing the user GPO, and computers in a computer GPO and assign the Computer GPO. However i need users to access both OS's each with the different policies.. Windows 7 will use existing User and Computer Policies, users that use Windows 7 will get the 10 policies. I can separate the computers into different OU's and get the computer settings to work but on the user OU's i need to put both Windows 7 and 10 policies so that depending which OS they log on to they will get the correct user settings. Whats the best way to do this?

Moving from Windows 7 RM CC to Windows 10 Vanilla. Created some new policies from GPO management and assigned to the computer OU - policies apply all ok for computer settings. I then Created a new policy and assigned to the users OU container in GPO Management, with user settings in the policy but when I log on and run gpresult it only shows the applied policies assigned to the computer OU. Why are the user policies not being picked up?

According to Programs and features, CA Arcserve installs SQL server 2008. Although it says it's not compatible with 2016, I have 2 other servers running the same software with tape drives on the same model of server. There is just this 1 particular server (same model as above 2) which Blue screens when the software is installed. only other difference is this server is running the hyper-v role. I moved all VMs to another host, and it still crashed, and only seems stable without Arcserve installed.

I have 2 identical servers hardware wise which I have upgraded (by a clean install) to Server 2016. Both servers have backup tape drives and run Arcserve Backup software. The first one i did ages ago was fine, been running for months without issue. However, the second one ran fine for a month. The tape drive in this one is used rarely as the other server has higher capacity drive. However, I then decided to install the Arcserve Backup software onto the server, which includes SQL server. On 11th April i installed CA Arcserve Backup to the server on 16th April the server BSOD with DPC_Watchdog_error and rebooted. On 17th April it BSOD again , same error On 23rd April again On 26th April again On 27th april i uninstalled CA Arcserve Backup as that was the only change since it seemed stable after first upgrade. Been running fine since. How do i got about troubleshooting this.. the server was fine on 2012 R2., and so is the other one with identical hardware. All tape drivers are up to date.

We've used .local from the day one. No issues whatsoever. No need for .internal SSL certificates. use exchange and just change all the URLS to be the external domain and use this on the certificate

And if you walk in the next day to a server not booted up? No monitoring/notifications?

When do you carry out updates, maintenance? I hate downtime so always schedule for out of hours.

Once our Hikvision IP system was installed I took it upon my self to configure it all on a separate VLAN, secure passwords , and learn the system inside out. Being on a VLAN only the Tech PCs have access by use of a different default gateway to do L3 routing. Seems secure enough to me.

That is what i'm thinking, but just wondered if it would be better to install 2016, then decommission the 2010 server, or just remove 2010 completely now and then install 2016 if required later. Assume it doesn't make much difference either way? If I remove 2010 now I should be able to install 2016 later?

because when it goes down they have no internal email and internal monitoring systems cannot send email notifications. I keep getting asked why our emails always work - because we have an Exchange server on-site and never had any downtime during school hours!

I have a client who fully migrated to office 365 in 2014 and their local exchange server has been shut down ever since. I booted it up and all old mail etc is still there and appears to let users login . Can i just go through the uninstall from Add/Remove programs to remove the exchange organisation? Will it affect any of the users and current sync with 365? Also, if i remove the server, would i then easily be able to re-integrate and exchange 2016 server if needed in the future just by running the install?

If it takes that long then i'd assume the machine got stuck anyway and need a hard reset! How do you miss machines off? I used WSUS, authorise the update on a Friday, set the deadline to the sunday, by Monday morning most machines have installed and rebooted. With WSUS it reboots outside working hours so after an update it will reboot and finish the update..

Scheduled task shuts down our PCs in the evening. No need to have them set to boot up in the morning.

Always a good idea to get contact with Peers/Network Managers at other school. Since becoming a MAT I am now carrying out an IT Assessment Report of another school on the network to feed back on best practices, what needs to be changed/upgraded etc. We do everything in-house to save as much money as possible.

Yes, all up to date from the HP website! Same drives /firmware as all other servers of same model and OS.

I have 1 hyper-v Host server which i upgraded over the holidays - it was running Server 2012 R2 reliably. I then clean installed Server 2016 and re-configured as a hyper-v host ( i never do OS upgrades, always clean install) It ran fine for the 2 weeks, first day back last monday and it Blue screened with a DPC_Watchdog_error, did a dump and re-booted. 13 hours later it crashed again with the same BSOD. Using blue screen view it highlighted 2 items - hal.dll and ntoskrnl.dll It then ran fine from wednesday until this morning when it happened again (i thought it was cured) but now I just have ntoskrnl.dll showing as an issue after i disabled the onboard Broadcom cards, even though they were working fine on 2012 R2. I have other ML350 G6 servers on 2016 all with the same drivers, all running fine for months. Only difference is this one is running as a host. Whats the next step to try and resolve this permanently?

What is the best way to do a fair comparative test between 2 Access Points and wireless performance? I have 2 Pro grade Wireless AC APs, one D-link and one Unify and want to do a fair test to do a side by side comparison.

I guess we are just lucky then with our infrastructure! Glad we got it when we did. However becoming a MAT we've been told our network operates faster than others and want to know why! It's only when you see other schools running you realise the difference. Gigabit to the desktop is certainly a necessity when transferring large files and logging on, there is a big difference and we noticed it when we upgraded years ago.

Has anyone found when becoming part of a Multi academy trust, how different the networks are? I've come across some which are still running 100mb to the desktops. Is there anywhere else that still is or is everyone on gigabit?
