Downstairs at main phone socket I have BT infinity router and a switch to feed downstairs poe cctv. uplink cable from downstairs to upstairs to study where i have a server and nas connected to another Poe switch for WiFi. all files are backed up to 2 external drives. all running 1 gig. 1 ubiquiti ap ceiling mounted upstairs gets me good signal throughout the house. switched off the BT wireless.

Got it sussed in the end by setting defaults on my pc and running a dism export to amend the current xml file. on comparison of the files I had 2 entries missing so after adding those all.worked ok. I didnt have the entries in j usually because id blocked edge so everything was defaulted to IE but ad soon as unblocked edge some some items were defaulting to edge but had to add in http and https entries. got there in the end

I have had 'Desktop' set up as folder redirection for a while, all users pointing to the same location where i can add shortcuts in and immediately appear on all users desktops. However, i have noticed recently out the the blue that the icons have changed for all users. Example is below what they now see. The icons still work but the shortcut arrow and icon image have gone. The internet explorer icon is in exactly the same folder/location as the other 3 icons. can anyone help? thanks. this is the desktop of all users this is the folder with shortcuts in showing correctly for both

we have recently replaced our repro machine from Konica to Riso but found a bug through papercut. on the Samsung's we have you can login to papercut and select accounts the user is a member of even if usernames have spaces in. however the Riso will not work with spaces in usernames.. all other systems we have work fine with that naming convention so has gone back to the manufacturers to fix. took ages to work out as could login but didn't show any accounts

I actually find it more frustrating and stressful when external systems go down and I cannot resolve them. I take pride in my job and if any system managed externally isn't working I get more frustrated than if an internal issue

I've never done an in place upgrade whether it's servers or clients. everything is clean install so can start fresh. if it's physical server with roles then I p2v it and run it virtually then crash the physical server and rebuild from scratch as all documented

It's the question they ask about being hit down by a bus several.times...there are procedures in place and there is nothing on site that can't run a month or month infrastructure wise without an issue and gives them time to find a suitable replacement. I've had 100% uptime on exchange for months. to be honest what's the difference between local exchange and 365 exchange admin centre. they are lucky as come to me for advice and saved schools money . whilst yes I could be hit by a bus whilst I'm in the job I do what I do but obviously if I wasn't able to prove my skills then there's not much point in me being in a job I love and been there for 16 years. if it all went to the cloud then there would be no need for my skills where I've saved a managed school with external support thousands. ultimately there are pros and cons to everything. if an external service goes down it's so frustrating you can't fix it whereas on site I can provide an immediate fix.

Hi Has anyone tried/deployed Softether VPN for a site to site VPN link? I am unable to find detailed instructions for setting up. Once i've done what i think it right i can only connect one way from remote site to central site to any of the servers, but cannot the other way round to any servers/ips. Can anyone assist? thanks.

I went into WSUS console today to approve an update. I noticed some PCs were showing as a red X with 'this computer has not reported status in 111 days. I logged onto the client went to windows update and it said last checked today. I went ahead and approved the update i wanted on the WSUS server. I then went back to the client, did a check for updates and it downloaded the single update and installed it correctly. if it's all working, why is the client not reporting. All clients were made from the same Image (but they were all prepped before imaging) so all have unique ID's. Do i remove it from WSUS to see if it re-adds the PC when it determines it's missing or is there a bug/update required to fix the reporting issue?

what about safeguarding. you have instant notification software to get messages to people?

And when you lose internet (and no redundant connection) how do you send and receive internal mail? Rare I need to look back on old emails. I need current.

sorry to bring up an old thread. i've applied all the settings as above which seem to work (spelling check greyed out) f7 doesnt work , but the users can still right click and be prompted with suggestions. I have enabled 'do not enable additional actions in the right-click menu'

Hi, Users want to be able to directly save to OneDrive from within Word, Excel etc. Is this possible? Office shows the user is signed in (top right), however when they choose to save to One Drive (and shows their email address) it wants them to sign in again. However, when entering the password it then says that the account or password is incorrect which I know it isnt. Is it not possible to save this way?

Has anyone used ethersoft for a site-to-site VPN and have some simple instuctions on how to set it up. i managed to get a connection from remote site to main site connected but from each server with the software I could on;y get 1 way access and if i set a client as the server IP as it's gateway i couldnt access any resources on the opposite site. anyone able to assist would be much appreciated. thanks in advance.

Hi, Yes we had the same problem. After contacting the company they advised the NEO's are no longer supported, even though the students could log in, the quiz wasn't shown. I then got an email from the librarian a few days later and advised it was working again, even though we didn't change anything. they recommended you used PC or tablets now.

Yep paid to do a job and do it well. Stick everything in the cloud and no one will need IT staff as if anything goes wrong, it'll be down to the service provider!!

so if the school loses their internet connection as only have a single circuit, how do they send internal email? if my internet goes down i'll still have full internal mail access.

I go to a caravan park which has zero mobile/data signal, however they have a free WiFi network on-site for WiFi, which runs at a download speed of approx 4-6 meg from inside the van. I can see the wifi points located outside but not quite line of sight. What would be the best solution to mount on the outside of the van to extend the wifi inside to a switch and get a better signal? Thinking some kind of Ubiquiti kit to repeat the signal and /or provide a higher gain signal to get the signal from outside to inside to improve it? I tried a huawei 4g router and external antenna without success at getting a decent signal.

at the end of the day no one solution fits all. stems from the clunkymess of one drive and it's inefficiency when editing documents. when praised for the network you have performing as it is you follow suit and implement elsewhere.
