I'm not looking forward to hosted SIMS..if using the desktop client it must be dog slow working on a remote 20gb database over the internet connection. We already provide remote SIMS via RemoteAPP which works as fast as local.

I was converted to D-Link back in 2003 from HP and have been D-Link ever since. Still have switches from 2003 in service running 10gb uplink and 1gb to each machine without issues. Just converted one of our other schools from HP to D-Link to replace their own 10/100 switches and 1gb uplinks. Maybe had 2 or 3 fan failures in the last couple of year but other than that rock solid. New series switches are all backed with redundant PSU and stacking is great in ring topology,

It can definitely been done - i've seen it on other schools laptops, they login to the laptop and have direct access to SIMS, network drives etc. However, i've never set it up, we just provide remote access to SIMS,network drives, office etc using RemoteApp.

No, mailbox has never been on-prem. I did manually edit the MailboxGUID property of the user and re-attempt the transfer shortly after but still came up with the same message. May have to see if can find some other details online. Alternatively, i'm maybe thinking of creating linked users with fresh mailboxes on the local exchange then export the psts from 365 and bulk import and merge with the local mailbox account, which i presume should work.

I have setup a hybrid environment, exchange 2016 working with Office 365. If i create a new local user in AD, and create a linked mailbox on the local exchange (as is an exchange resource forest) it creates the mailbox with the 365 domain and can send and receive mail from the local user, or users on 365 can successfully send mail to the user on local exchange. However, if i attempt to move a mailbox from the cloud to local exchange it fails due to ExchangeGUID missing. As the 365 domain users would be in a separate AD forest, how do i move a exchange mailbox from the cloud to local exchange when the local user exists in another cross-forest trust domain, as in the domain which has the exchange server has disabled users for the linked mailboxes. We use a similar format for home drives \\domain\students\2019\%USERNAME% However have to block desktop.ini because when users access the year folder, all the folders appear as 'my documents' How did you get around this? blocking desktop.ini allows the folders to the individual user names correctly.

In GPO there's 2 options - apply once and do not re-appply and somewhere in printers you can choose not to reapply printers during background refresh of the policy. We get times where the printers don't appear at first login, but a log off and back on brings them back, never had any disappear whilst logged on.

I definitely wouldn't say hassle! I've been managing on-site exchange for the last 14 years, done several migrations including cross forest migrations and had 100% uptime!

Looking for some advice/info on what others have done as part of the MAT formation. If for example there are 2 sites with separate AD forests and local exchange servers,and I want to consolidate into a single exchange organisation with DAG (one exchange server at each site) is this possible? within the trust there is IP site-to-site connection as both on the same broadband connection. ultimate goal is to have staff accessing a single exchange organisation so GALs have users from both domains and centralised shared calendars. No plans to move to office 365 at the moment. It it worth creating a new Forest root, placing domain controllers and exchange servers at both sites, then migrating all users/computers/mailboxes to the new forest. only concern would be then if schools were then ever to separate from the trust this may cause an issue with separation. What have others done in this situation

If the failed DC was going to be offline forever did you run the metadata cleanup in ntdsutil? Does your remaining DC hold all the FSMO roles?

I'm assuming you have more than 1 DC? If you've had to re-add the network adapter due to differences in Host setups - then you'll need to check all services are using that Network connection, DNS in particular. Have all IP settings been reconfigured correctly and then reboot the DC again so everything initialises on the new network interfaces

What steps did you carry out to 'move the domain controller to a new host' Is this a VM you have just moved via live migration?

I have an issue with SIMS and windows 10 / Internet explorer. When a user run a report, it opens internet explorer with the report. however when they close down IE and run the report again it opens another tab in IE. After running several reports, after closing down the tabs, and running it again, it still opens the previous tabs. When all windows are closed the tmprpt.html file still exists in appdata. I've tried deleting the file and starting froms scratch but after opening subsequent reports it still keeps the previous tab data. I have tried changing the tab options in IE to open new window but doesnt change anything. has anyone else had this before?

I have 2 sites which both have separate AD Forests and Exchange 2016 servers installed. The plan is to setup a forest trust so users can access resources cross site from each site. AS for exchange, i would like to have 1 global address list with users from both sites exchange servers and also be wanting shared calendars so users in both AD forests/sites can access calendars from either side. However, do i keep the 2 exchange servers separate and set up galsync or would i be better off creating a third new Forest and installing exchange server into the forest and then using this as a resource forest with exchange on for users in both the 2 separate schools AD forest? I notice from online in the supported scenarios it says you can either set up cross-forest or resource forest, but if go down the resource forest route, one of the user forests cannot have exchange installed. If this is the case does that mean i cannot leave exchange on each site, and set up the new third forest with exchange to then migrate the mailboxes to? Looking for a bit of advice before the project commences. What i'm looking for is a central exchange environment, and if means a resource forest then having a DC for the 3rd forest at each site and an exchange server at each site also so 1 mailbox database for 1 site, and another mailbox database for the other. I currently run a SIMS report manually which opens in excel, i then save this as an XLS, and import into SQL server manually by choosing the excel source file. I want to automate this. I've got it working, however when I run command reporter and it creates the CSV file, it puts quotes ( " ) around each word. When i then create a sql script to import the file, each field value has the quotes around each word. How do i do the export but not put the quotes around each entry Thanks.

I've implemented by first 3x switch stack as all are located in the same cab. Whats the best way of monitoring a switch failure, as all are seen via a single IP and SNMP monitoring doesn't allow monitoring of traffic etc on the stacking ports. What does everyone do to monitor switch stacks?

Glad we moved away from Netsweeper when the LEA stopped providing filtering services. It was a disaster, always having squid issues, and is based in Canada.

So across the trust we're looking to roll out Microsoft Teams. we both have separate office 365 tenancy's. We can message each other which is fine. However for audio and visual communication this only works for contacts that are on the same domain. As users in the other domain are external, some features are not available. Is there a way we can use all of teams features between the 2 sites, either by the use of settings, or joining of the 2 tenancies? I presume that even if both domains could be migrated under 1 account, as each site login with a different @ domain then the users would still be classed as external? Martin

Has anyone managed to get 4 cameras on one screen and then get it to cycle after number x seconds through the other cameras in the group? Struggling with the manual and the button seems to be always disabled. Can any one provide some assistance please. thanks

On my phone i've got 2 Office 365 accounts (different domains) and can view my calendar with events from both mailboxes on one view, However, in Microsoft Outlook i have connected my first Office 365 account and can view the data. It seems that 'open additional mailboxes' option will only let me add other accounts under the same domain. I dont want a different profile for each 365 domain as wont show both calendars at once, How can i have 2 different office 365 accounts on one profile so all calendars can be overlapped when viewing on the computer?
