Location doesn't really matter. large AD sites will have dcs separated by wans. as long as the link to it is reliable you'll be fine.

Can't say I've seen any performance issues on 2016 or 2019 which I have just updated to. for SIMS I launch the app by pulsar.exe . as for the incorrect sims ini does it contain the instance details or is it using s redirect to the s drive and your s drive is not mapping when the users login?

I've inherited 2 networks over the years with nothing but an admin password and a few server names and IP addresses . everything else I.e switches printers were using dhcp addresses reserved and with factory login details. Both times I've had to do physical walks around the site to find hardware and cabs and document before then replacing the infrastructure. time consuming!

How do these databases even be made public!

Over the 16 years in my role i've made a complete network documentation manual which includes: Physical server details with tech specs and warranties, Server Configuration and roles, Switches ,locations VLANs etc, AD and Domain structure - AD Servers, DNS, DHCP, FSMO roles etc, Day to day management i.e creating users, papercut admin, web filtering, Backup procedures/schedules, restoration procedures, server DR recovery, broadband details, Licensing, Wireless details and VLANs, Shut down/startup procedure for network, network monitoring software, Power management and redundancy, passwords, etc

Unfortunately neither of them options are suitable. I've checked 2 servers in AD, both say created in 2012, one I clean installed onto Server 2016 about 2 years ago (using the same name), the other one i did an inplace upgrade about 2 months ago, and both servers say modified 2 days ago..

tried that but still won't help as will have the date windows was installed whether upgrade or clean install.

From past experience even if you've renewed your licensing before the current agreement expiry date, the new one will not appear on MSVLSC until the existing one has expired (so the day after it will appear)

How do i determine if a server was clean installed or upgraded from a previous version. On a server i know i upgraded from 2012 r2 to 2016 it doesn't have a windows.old folder anymore. I have found articles online which say how to check the registry but this doesnt seem to apply to servers. Just trying to figure out if any other servers have been upgraded rather than clean installed. thanks.

I'm currently decommissioning a school which was with RM fully with unify. broadband is extorniate..moving them away and saving 6000 per year! seen less issues since going vanilla.

should be no issues I've done it myself and correct in that they will just operate at lower speed and use what space is required.

Even though 2019 drivers aren't on the HP site for gen 5 or 6 I managed to extract the drivers then install via device manager for the raid controller ilo and system management. been 100% reliable.

This one is 6.5 years old and first time battery swap, i've had HPs run until 10 years before decommissioning and always swapped the battery at least once.

Twice now i've had an issue whereby when a RAID Controller battery has failed it has caused minor issues. The first time it messed up SQL server and had data corruption so had to restore from a previous backup. Now, i recently had issues with SOLUS 3 not working properly saying it hadn't downloaded all the files and did i want to download them again, ending up in a constant loop. Capita determined the issue (for whatever reason) was because solus didn't like the repository share on the data drive - bearing in mind i downloaded other updates and deployed on the same day which were fine, they moved the solus repository to the C drive and then it worked. It seems when the raid controller batteries fail it causes weird issues like this. I'm guessing if the server suddenly decides the battery has failed then any data in the cache that hasn't been written will cause corruption? Should this happen? All servers are up to date with raid controller firmware/driver and all disks on latest firmware too.

I've just been notified of the new SOLUS 3 update available. I've been looking at the roadmap for sims and it shows that the autumn release isnt supported with SOLUS 3.12.41 Didn't Capita release the autumn update before the release of solus 3.12.51 ?!

I'm looking to possibly implement OwnCloud and read that it can be linked to AD home directories and you have to set the root path. However, if users are located on different servers, I.E staff on one and students on another, can it use the value in each users AD user account or can it only point to one home folder? TIA

Has anyone else come across an issue where when trying to print office 365 emails in Edge, which have embedded images, they don't print or appear in the preview. They just appear as blank areas. Works in Chromium beta and chrome, but not Edge! Microsoft wanted me to pay for a support case but now got re seller on the case as shouldn't be paying for their own bugs!

APC here - all servers and core switches have dual PSUs - one is connected to the UPS which is fed by one ring main. The mains connection is on a separate fuse board so in event of a trip, power continues (providing all dual PSUs are in working order)

Has anyone else deployed HTML5 version of remoteapp? I've installed and set it up, however wondering if there is any way to customize the interface i.e add logo etc. I'm assuming with the new look login box that we no longer have to enter domain\ before the username as seems to all work without it. Database only upgrade went OK for us, however when attempting to deploy the autumn release SOLUS said it hadn't downloaded all the files and did i want to download again, no matter how many times i said yes, it wouldn't deploy, leaving clients with an incompatible database,#Turned out that for whatever reason solus was 'access denied' to the release update, so had to move the repository to the C drive to deploy the release. Not sure why all other patches downloaded and installed fine including discover, it just wasn't happy with the solus respository location for the main release!

if adding drivers is there a way to force whether windows uses built in drivers or ones added to image? Also, i've got one motherboard i have to install a specific driver on and change a setting in device manager properties. I'm assuming i would have to change the driver and set device manager properties on each machine after if using sysprep?
