    Just to reference your initial post, if you need to play DVD's then a Chromebook won't fulfil your needs.

    You have to log in to YouTube to disable Safety Mode. Not too big a problem here as we all have Google accounts and we limit students to the EDU filtered YouTube via Smoothwall.

    No option for Black Country - vastly different from Brummie. If there's one thing all us Wulfrunians can't stand it's being mistaken for, or categorised as, Brummies! The Birmingham accent is really irritating, but good old Black Country spaeke is charming, witty and full of character

    Yeah, I thought that's what Item-level targeting was meant to do. For example, I have a Staff Printing GPP policy in my staff OU and in there I add all the staff/office printers that we have via GPP. I then configure each printer to only apply if the member of staff is using a computer in a particular room(OU) using Item-Level Targeting. Worked in testing but upon mass-rollout we are getting ad-hoc and sporadic errors. Well, not so much errors, just no printers being deployed. No pattern has emerged as yet so I'm tempted to re-deploy them all via loopback and see if that sorts things.

    So you use Loopback instead of Item-level Targeting? We've just changed from GPO per machine connections to GPP per-user with Item Level Targeting. We're getting loads of instances of no printers being added at all. Sometimes gpupdate and restart works, sometimes not. It seems to be randomly failing - different users, machines, wired, wifi etc. Might give your config a go and see if that helps.

    No that's cool. I just wanted to check. We do something similar with our iMacs and tablets as the capture portal on Smoothwall wasn't working brilliantly on Safari.

    So you don't have individual tracking/logging/filtering from the off?

    @robjduk What are you using for web filtering on the Chromebooks? We're starting to look into chromebooks as we're fully Googled up and want to start nudging people more into Google Drive and Classroom etc. We have an onsite Smoothwall which authenticates via AD on the windows machines. How could this be translated onto the Chromebooks. Would a capture portal be the best option? How does that work with logging in, system updates and extension roll-outs etc?

    This exact thing happened with us over the summer. Distribution company borked up our master image. This is the batch file I wrote to get it sorted: c: cd \ cd program files\common files\microsoft shared\OfficeSoftwareProtectionPlatform ospprearm winword taskkill /f /im "winword.exe" cd \program files\microsoft office\office14 cscript ospp.vbs /act We ran it manually under an Administrator login. EDIT - this is for 64bit Office

    Cheers. £35 up front then £3 a month. Or a £129 one of payment and subscription for life. Quick sums suggest you would be paying for 2 and a half years before seeing the saving of "subscription free".

    We moved from Link2ICT to RM. They promised more than they delivered, but they are reasonably priced and a whole heap better than Link2ICT. We probably won't renew with them once our 3 year contract is up (currently in the second year). Main issue we had was they messed up quite a few things during our migration (email and DNS being the main ones) and change request lead times are inconsistent. I look after two schools and the same request took 24 hours at one site and 5 days with prompting for the other.

    With GPP it has to be a user policy if you want to add a shared printer. If you are installing printers per computer then it can only be IP or local.

    Cheers for the response mate. I meant more from an user authentication perspective. Our Academy Trust spans two sites which have separate networks and AD domains. We do, however, have a shared Google Apps for Education domain. We can use this for authentication, usually via OAuth2.0, for some of our shared resources, Moodle being a good example.

    We've ended up removing "YouTube SafetyMode cookie" within Smoothwall's content modification policies. The problem was that Youtube requires a login to disable it and we block https here to prevent students circumventing the YouTube EDU filter http rewrite. With Youtube EDU in place and https blocked, we didn't need to enforce Safety Mode.
