Closest I found was LibreCAD - https://www.rollapp.com/app/librecad Seems a bit laggy and difficult to use and it can't export or save in the correct format for our milling machine or laser cutter.

Not when they've been hacked at, like ours have

Is there one? We're in the middle of trying to work out how feasible a Chromebook deployment would be and how many PC's and laptops we could do away with by issuing Chromebooks to students. ICT and Media Studies would probably still need PCs but other subject areas, that use the bookable laptops, may be able to survive with just web browser access. One sticking point is DT. They still use 2D Design. It's what the teacher is happy with and it communicated well with our milling machine and laser cutter. Both of those are connected to a dedicated PC that opens the students 2D Design projects and cuts/mils them. Is there a viable cloud-based solution that the students could use to create their designs to then be imported into 2dDesign to then be milled etc? Cheers, Will

Hi folks, We've got a few charging trolley's worth of Toshiba Satellite Pro laptops - some C50-A-15Q and some C850-10W Probably about 1 in 4 of these laptops have had a number of keys helpfully ripped from the keyboard making them very difficult to use effectively; some impossible. Does anyone know of a reliable supplier for replacement keyboards? A quick google search only reveals ebay and amazon sellers. Was hoping to use somewhere a bit more personable and school-friendly if possible. Cheers in advance, peeps.

Printers disappearing having to restart spooler
machin05 replied to Theldron's topic in Windows Server 2008 R2
We went over to per User with Item Level Targetting using GPP. We had more instances of printers failing to install so we went back to GPOs. Not perfect, and the occasional reboot is required, but it's the best we can seem to do at the moment. -

Via Group Policy Objects using the Print Manager interface on the server. We do it per room with a separate OU and GPO for each room. -
Are you running Impero?

Have a look at this - https://blogs.adobe.com/oobe/tag/serialization We had to run this after imaging our machines to licence our CS6 installation.

Any RM customers having issues with YouTube?
machin05 replied to machin05's topic in Internet Related/Filtering/Firewall
Seems to have kicked back into life now! - - - Updated - - - Was affecting Chrome and Firefox for us :/ -
Hi all, I look after two sites, both use RM as our ISP. We have Smoothwall on one site, but just use RM safteynet at the other. Both sites, however, are having trouble playing YouTube videos. Pre-video adverts are working, but the actual video isn't. Anyone else having trouble, or is it just us? Cheers, Will

We have a handful of staff here who refuse to use extended. Really annoying because it's by far the best way to work. Best resolution for each output, sensitive data and SIMS work can be carried out on the monitor whilst the classroom work is displayed on the projector etc.
-
Well yeah, but if the entire IT suite is being refreshed, it's pretty easy to ensure the new kit has two outputs (which most new kit does).
-
If you extend your displays you can have a different resolutions for your projector and monitor.

We had to get staff to set up an IMAP mailbox to their new GMail inbox within Zimbra, then drag any mail they wanted to keep into there. We had to run sessions on a INSET day to get everyone sorted. This was a couple of years ago so there might be a better way now.

Yeah, your clients should only be using your internal DNS. Then set up your DNS server with a Forwarder to the council one so that any requests for anything outside of your local network will be handled by your internal DNS server
-
Was just about to suggest that

If you're using Google Apps For Education (which I'm presuming you are based on your use of Google Drive) then have you had a look at Google Classroom?

That'd just turn us into a nation of criminals.

There was a decent thread on here on couple of weeks ago discussing options for archiving off old files to free up space. Mainly using Robocopy scripts. If I can find it, I'll link it.

We started using Macrium after running into problems with FOG. It's been pretty solid, but you need to make sure you have the network card drivers on your boot disc.

What's the budget?
