It seems as soon as I post on here, I realise what a moron I'm being! I've sorted the script, I realise I had the OU's the worng way round! On the off change, is there anyway of forcing it all in lowercase? As it stands I've got an email addresses reading as [email protected]. assume it makes no difference, but I'm funny about things like that! Ok, Ive modified the script but I'm getting an error on the first line, saying there is no such object. Can you tell me what the XX stands for in the example code? My first line reads: Set objParent = GetObject("LDAP://OU=Moodle,OU=Staff,OU=Test,DC=lordswoodgirls,DC=school") Just to clarify, our domain is lordswoodgirls.school and the OU i'm trying this on is called Test, which is in an OU called Staff, which is in an OU call Moodle, which is in the root of the domain. Nice on CyberNerd, I've had a look at your script, and it looks like it would do the job apart from the fact our SAMAccountName values don't match up with our email address prefix. For example Steve Bull would have a SAMAccountName of s.bull but an email of [email protected] Is there anyway of tying this script in with an excel file that I could use to remover the full stops? Thought as much. Any pointers or example scripting will be of great help as my own scripting experience has been gathered on a very ad hoc basis. I can export a list of the users an use excel formula to remove the full stop and append the domain name, but then importing the new values to the correct containers in ad.... GULP! Cheers, Will

OK, very quick update. Selecting multiple users works when done from an XP workstation using the Windows 2003 Admin Pack BUT I've just realised that our staff user names are in the format of j.blogs but our email address are [email protected]. Therefore using the %username% tag will enter the incorrect email address. Any ideas on a quick way around this. Maybe using excel files to export, remove the full stops, then update the AD containers? Cheers, Will

Cheers for all the replies folks. I want to update the email line in AD for use within Moodle. We're in the process of setting it up for our school and you can use that field to auto-complete users for the first time they log into moodle. I will have a look at the different methods for updating AD info that you all have detailed and let you know what works for me. I know this might sound antiquated, but we're still running a Win2000 AD so i believe selecting multiple users is a no-no. Peace

Hi, I need to enter the email addresses for all our staff and students 1000+ within our active directory. For each user their email address will be in the format of %username%@schooldomain.sch.uk This is a different domain name to the one used by active directory. I was hoping you folks know of a way to update user information across the whole domain? At the moment all users email address field in AD is blank. So far I've tried using some software call Active User Manager to highlight multiple users in an OU and update the email address field using the %username%@schooldomain.sch.uk, but once that is applied the value of %username% remains, and doesn't change to j.smith etc. Hope that makes sense, if not fire away with your questions! We had exactly the same issue. If I install it on a pc I have to log in and run it as an Administrator once. Before this it would just crash out when trying to extude. Bad software design I guess.

Success!! Cheers for you help and advice peeps. What I ended up doing was running through mini-setup without entering a Product ID, uninstalling SP3, using my VL XP cd to install Windows XP over the top of itself, then reinstall SP3 and run sysprep again. Not sure what caused the problem in the first place, but this has resolved it. Phew!

Yeah, I have all my students in seperate OU's depending on year group so being able to have customizable settings would be massive bonus.

Hi guys, Cheers for all your reponses. I was out of work at 4pm so have only just read your replies. Hi Matt. Ghost is just how I'm used to doing it and I've never felt or seen the need to change. Our server etup is woefully outdated (win2000) and running to near capacity so I don't really have the resources to trial a RIS setup. Ghost isn't causing the problem, it's the mini-setup that runs after sysprep, which I use to strip the image of it's security identifiers, computername etc. Forgive me if I'm wrong, but I was under the assumption (and years of trouble free image cloning) that running sysprep before duplicating was a necessity. Hi Ben, Yeah, I downloaded the SP3 syprep tools after I'd installed Service Pack 3. As I mentioned earlier, I had run the older sysprep on a previous image that had SP3 installed and that worked out fine. It has only been since using the latest sysprep that the problem has occured. Hi Michael, Thanks for your suggestions, I'll have a look into an answer file before my next big install. As far as slipstreaming SP3 onto the install I'm not sure how this would affect my situation. I have a feeling that the problem is with the latest sysprep. It's as if it alters the version of Windows XP so that it no longer is a Volume Licencing version and that it now needs activating. Hi, Yeah, I'm 100% sure it's the right key. It's the same one I've been using for about 3 years (maybe more) and as I don't use unattended setup I've typed it in hundreds and hundreds of times! I've also looked on our Microsoft Licencing site and used the Product on there (which is different) but it still doesn't work. Cheers for your suggestion. I'll end up redoing the image, but without SP3. I'll have a look into WSUS (never heard of it before) for rolling out SP3

Hi all, My name's Will and I'm the ICT Manager at a school in Birmingham. I've run into a problem that I'm having trouble resolving and I was hoping some of you guys could help out. I've created a spanking new image for some newlaptops that we've received and I'm about to Ghost it onto the other laptops. I always install XP Pro with SP2 from scratch using our Volume Licencing CD and Product Key which I've used for the 3 or so years. I've done the same this time around but to keep the image up to date I downloaded and installed SP3 along with the SP3 sysprep tools. The problem comes during mini-setup when I come to enter the Product Key. It's saying that the Product Key is invalid despite the fact I'm using the same product key that is a) on every XP pro pc in our entire network, and b) I used to install the image from scratch. I can proceed through mini-setup if I leave the product key blank, but then I have a 25 day activation limit. Obviously any attempt to activate Windows using my VLK is thwarted! Has anyone else come across this error? Incidently (or not as the case may be), I installed SP3 on our most recent desktops before sysprepping them, but the difference being I (inadvertently) used the SP2 version of sysprep. This worked without a problem. Is my image knackered? Any input will be gratefully received and if you need any more info, fire away... Cheers, Will
