  1. A quick look at the pricing of these 2 units would rule out the WG302. What's the major advantage of the WG102 over the one I've linked to previously?
  2. So would that mean we'd have to run double network points for each AP? One for the Zone Director and one for a PoE switch? Could you explain a little how (physically) a power injector would fit into an install?
  3. So my final question is: This one NETGEAR Wireless 54Mbps Access Point - Misco.co.uk or this one Linksys by Cisco Wireless-G 54Mbps Access Point - Misco.co.uk
  4. Cheers for the advice. I'll check signal strength once I receive the APs. PoE isn't a concern as I have already earmarked rooms that have a network point and power outlet spare. But cheers for the info. Do you know if Ruckus runs PoE from it's controller?
  5. Ah, I should explain. Those are not my screen shots. They are lifted from another site that were reviewing the motherboard! My settings are something whack like 1200 FSB. It's gives a CPU reading of 2.9Ghz (ish) but has some crazy CPU:RAM ratio. It boots and runs fine but it's obviously not ideal. This is for my home pc so I can't check my settings exactly until this evening, would love to take home some settings to try out...
  6. http://www.lordswoodgirls.co.uk/files/1848_p5_3.jpgCheers for you advice. Here's a screen shot of my Overclocking BIOS screen. Could you suggest the values to put in here in order to acheive the performance I so desire! I understand that the the FSB reading is already 'quad pumped' so 1066 as apposed to 266 The RAM I have is this OCZ Technology | Products | Memory | OCZ DDR2 PC2-8500 Reaper HPC Edition I've gone into the RAM config pages below and set the CAS Latenecy to 5. Should I be changing the RAM voltage to 2.1v (on the first screen), as specced on the OCZ webpage http://www.lordswoodgirls.co.uk/files/1848_p5_4.jpg Cheers team...
  7. They'll be hard wired into the LAN. So it's just a case of setting the same SSID and making sure the channels don't clash. Can someone kindly check this diagram and point out any glaring errors? http://www.lordswoodgirls.co.uk/files/ground-floor.jpg
  8. Hidy hi folks, I'm looking for a little advice on Wireless Access Points and the setup/confing of said WAPs. At the moment we have a very ad-hoc messy little wireless network. We have around half a dozen WAPs each with a different SSID that are set up individually on each laptop. Basically, it grew from one WAP about 4 years ago and was added to in this ad-hoc fashion ever since. Anyways, we're looking to install a centrally managed system in the next year or so (Ruckus being the clear leader ATM) so I'm not looking to radically reform the system we already have - it's messy and probably making a few of the purists cringe, but it's works (just!). Now to the crooks of this post - I need to setup up wireless access on our ground floor (which is currently suffieciently out of range of the rest of the wireless to warrant sorting something out). It will be used by a bank of 16 netbooks. What I want to do is setup 2 or 3 WAPs at each end of the corridor and 'mesh(?)' them together to create a single access point which I can then configure on each netbook - thus eliminating the need to manually select the strongest WAP. What I need to know is whether this can be done using fairly cheap entry level WAPs such as Netgear or Linksys. If so can anyone recommend a particular model and how to mesh them together. Thanks in advance for any advice... Will
  9. Hi, I've never overclocked a PC before but am keen to try it out. I've been reading up a bit but I'm still confused as to the safest yet most rewarding approach to this. My system is made up of the following: XFX nForce 750i Motherboard OCZ 4GB Kit (2x2GB) DDR2 1066MHz/PC2-8500 Reaper Memory Sapphire HD 4850 Toxic Edition 512MB GDDR3 Intel Core 2 Duo E7300 2.66GHz There are 2 things I want achieve here. Firstly boosting the CPU up to about 3.2Ghz. At the moment CPU-Z is reading my RAM as PC2-6400/800Mhz and not PC2-8500/1066Mhz, so secondly I'd like my RAM to operate at 1066MHz. Can someone guide me throught the settings I need to change. I have set the overclocking jumper on the motherboard to enable all the CPU voltage settings, I just need to know what to change! BTW, my only attempt at this resulted in a BSOD - treat me as a layman!
  10. 10" touchscreen..... CarPC!
  11. Have you considered hosting Moodle within your school. You have to request a reverse proxy from Link2ICT, but only takes a couple of days to sort out (which is quicker than waiting for them to host it for you!) I understand that Link2ICT are developing a secondary school moodle template to replace their netmedia mydesktop solution, but I'm not sure about timescales (or whether they will adhere to them). Place your interest with their service desk.
  12. So in that case, both monitors would be using flatron. Basically, I'm specc'ing up a pc for home and I found this LG monitor, via the PCPro labs. They are reviewing the LG L206WU-WF (according to the spec sheet), but I can't find it in stock anywhere. I was just wondering how the step down in money is is reflected in terms of quality in the PF model (seeing as the spec is pretty much the same). Has anyone got either of these monitors that they could comment on? Or could anyone recommend a 20"-22" widescreen TFT....
  13. I think the PF also has d-sub. Only difference I've found is the WF using Flatron, but I'm not entirely sure what that means!!
  14. Can anyone tell me the difference between these 2 monitors 1. LG L206WU-PF 2. LG L206WU-WF Barr the price, I can't see what's different between the 2 monitors. Can anyone shed any light?
  15. I wouldn't get too precious about critism. It's can be a very helpful medium on which to highlight improvements and make important people happy
  16. Always try and focus on how it will improve the teaching and learning and not just the technical capabilities. It's what head teachers get off on!
  17. Spot on. We're turning into a blame cultured nanny state. Shoe laces need to be outlawed before someone trips!
  18. Can I make a suggestion out of left field here. A VW Pheaton - not the fastest but a £60k luxury car that can be picked up for about £12k at the moment. Give it a year and you may get one for £10k. You'll feel like pimp in one of those!
  19. I'd already removed the delete permissions from the folder out of which folders may have been dragged, tested but it still moved the folder!? I don't really won't to deny delete for the network as it's encouraged that staff and student delete data that they no longer need to save the server filling up with stagnent files.
  20. Thanks for the reply Beswick I found something similar to this but I believe the major drawback is that you cannot then drag any windows on screen. EDIT: Sorry, didn't read your whole post! Any other ideas out there?
  21. Hey all, hope you are all well and recovering from the "most depressing day of the year"! I want to be able to prevent staff and students (well everyone really) from dragging and dropping folders. We have a problem here where staff accidentally drag, for instance, the Maths folder into the Music folder. It happens with the students in their user areas too. I don't want to prevent people from copying folders, if that's what they want to do, as we are trying to promote rationalised file structures. Ideally I would like them to still be able to Right Click > Copy and Right Click > Paste but not be able to drag folders. I've had a search but all I can find is disbaling drag and drop for the start menu. Has anyone got a solution to this? Cheers, Will I forgot to mention, our workstations are Windows XP Pro on a 2000 Domain
  22. That's a pretty beefy system. More storage than all our servers put together!
  23. Aren't those the Windows 98SE minimum specs?
  24. The way we do it open the mp3 with Audacity, click and drag to highlight the offensive word, then Effects > Reverse. That way you can't make out the rude word, but you don't lose the pitch or beat of the song. Peace
  25. Cheers everyone, Got it sorted and working. Have successfully changed all staff entries. Much appreciated. My final script looked like this: Set objParent = GetObject("LDAP://OU=Staff,OU=Moodle,DC=lordswoodgirls,DC=school") objparent.Filter = Array("user") for each objUser in objParent 'Wscript.Echo "Modifying " & objUser.Get("sAMAccountName") objUser.put "mail", lcase(Replace(objUser.Get("sAMAccountName"),".","")) & "@lordswdg.bham.sch.uk" objuser.Setinfo next Wscript.Echo "Done ;)" Thanks again, Will
