SQL will just use all the available memory unless you limit the instance, but it's not a problem it will release memory as the OS needs it for other operations. One of our SQL servers has 32GB of ram with 6 DB instances each pegged at 5GB leaving 2GB for the OS. one of the big + of virtualisation for us is we can spin up a test server in half an hour and burn it if we don't need it.. No Pleading to management for servers, networking.. Also when we came to upgrade our 70+ Servers in the summer we live migrated them from Old Dell R810's to R730's only hardware build was the 3 ESX machines. everything else was just migrated to new hardware with 5yrs support. Is anyone out there using CATTOOLS, and more specificaly able to do a Start VS Run Compare Job.. It's not officialy inclued but custom device/script must be able to do it.. TT

We probably have 40-50 SQL databases virtualised, some fast moving. Exchange 3way DAG Veeam And a shead load more virtualised..

I have used both 123 and Fasthosts . 123 was originally opted for to host DNS by my colleague, it was dreadful for a number of reasons. I used UKREG/FASTHOSTS personally and we migrated to that, still with them 5 years on. My Domains must have been on FH for ~8 years. The only problem was a major outage due to flooding about 3 years ago ~3hrs or so.. Not good but they presumably have sought to mitigate future issues.

Do you have a UTM/firewall with a spare port you can configure?

Hold on..... Servers, routers, printers, etc... anything non DHCP. Will still have a /24 subnet. It will only talk to the lower half of the range. You need to sort all of these before looking at DHCP. TT

Personal UKREG/FASTHOSTS They don't care about sub-domains, and if they did I would just use them as the registration and point at home DNS servers. Never let a small 3rd Party register for you. TT

I would suspect he is constrained within what his ISP/GFL has configured for routing unless he is running his own firewall/UTM/NAT. increasing the subnet hosts may not work and you want to be reducing the netmask to reduce the size and increase the number of broadcast domains. TT

There are many options for DHCP & Vlans on the MC to explore. TT

If its a link to a hub it should be 100-half or 10-half. Would avoid auto duplex on them. TT

Start with a room of old 2nd user terminals just as a trial, usually dirt cheap on ebay. Admittedly you may struggle on "Media Rich" content , but if you use them in the right place it's a starting point. Microsoft is catching up with Citrix+HDX for multimedia, so the situation is improving if you don't use Citrix. ThinKiosk is free and can be used to LOCKDOWN windows XP Embedded Clients. TT

whilst your on the console (this is the serial connection to the switch) turn on console logging. Try all first all though that may be a bit verbose (none|debug|all|not-info|critical) #console events all Remember to turn it off afterwards #no console events

True you can do PXE boot to run something like LTS, but if it's on Wi-Fi you can't PXE and have to boot to some sort of mini OS first that has the wifi driver... TT

Did you say the "H" word. Really??? It reminded me of something I have overlooked and could well be a big contributor. Speed/Duplex Mismatch can easily cause the symptoms your seeing. Set all ports on the new switch to 100/Auto and see if it improves. TT

have you tried SSHing and pinging from the console? There's lots of hidden commands in the console that may help. it's under ip ping

At my old place we had HP5740 desktop thin clients. They needed the occasional re-image.. Say 20 out of 200 in 4 years. Perhaps another 15 needed warranty repair ( some of them made up the re-image jobs). Prior to them we would be pulling PC's daily for re-image, fix, repair. Every half term we would re-image a room or two to clean it up. So it was constant work just fixing end user machines, and we had slick re-imaging and application deployment to help us. With my old terminal server setup, and the one in my current place it's like Groundhog Day. Every night at 2AM the remote desktop servers restart from a clean gold image and any crap from the day never happened. We install software to one gold image and next day 500+ terminals have access to it. TT

what prices do you see for a 5450? they start at £500 ... 3000's start at under £230 excluding a monitor but any onld monitor is good. For us its all round lower TCO, increased Security, reduced maintenance, TT
