disable rdp. ok download "tcplisten" to the server and start it and put it on port 3389. then telnet to the server on port 3389 and see if tcp listen responds. that will narrow down network/firewall or RDP.

Just e-mail? No actual ticketing database?? I started out with "OneOrZero" circa 2005, we would just add on tickets. staff would get e-mail updates but did not interact with it. 2009 went to "GLPI" again we started out just using it ourselves but move on to adding the users. 2011 at the start of autumn term after merger and restructure we stated that All tickets MUST be logged diectly on the helpdesk. The uptake was super. We had all the assets and contracts in there, a knowledge base too. SSO was screamed for, but noone said thanks when it was introduced! A big improvement for us was that I wrote a script that pulled ticket data from the database. It diplayed on a HTML page in each office the current number of calls. when a new call came in the screen flashed allerting us that there was something needing looking at. we were handling 20-25 calls a day across the two sites. I have moved on and my current organisation uses ManageEngine Service Desk. I don't particularly like it's workflow but it also has all our contracts, purchases, assets, projects, solutions, change control, etc... TT

I watched the re-runs in my youth.. 4 stars lost in 3 week! not good at all....

10.04 went EOL last year I would get it updated before you can't CentOS or Straight Debian should be easy enough to install on for most Linux products. TT

Un-managed switches, generally have no control over loop protection. As I mentioned previously disconnect all other switches from the new core and see if it improves. If it does not then take out other cables int bunches and narrow down where the fault to a port(s) TT

Thing that springs readily to mind is a Short lease time on dhcp expired sleeping PC's. why is the DHCP service not running on the vitrual? TT

Did you log onto one of those PC's localy and check it could ping the DC by IP and DNS? TT

The NIC is the management card, it recives data from the UPS. The UPS itself only has rudimentary Awareness.. It may be a press and hold for the Management reset, but I do recall it starts up on a fixed IP so you will need a laptop on that subnet to pre-configure befor joining the network. its probably actualy a AP9617 type card given the age. TT

The smartups 2200 has the same module slot as the normal rack units... Not used on in a couple of years.. still got APC but it takes up two full 42U cabs'

Press the reset button on the AP9631 card, it will default to a static ip. 192.168.x.x cant remember off hand exactly what it is. TT

Are you sure you can get onto the management via serial/usb. Usualy its just for signaling. Is the network modular?

If your asking the question, and have never used vlan routing, then i think you should be seaking some advice. There needs to be a clear reason to change the ip scope as saying filtering wont work is a little vauge . TT

Thinking on it, why do you need to change internal scopes?

I assume you have a L3 Switch on which the VLANS are set up. The vlan will need to be re-configerd with an IP to be the DG of the new subnet. TT

If its only the building then lay out the risk to the building owner that the issue could lead to hardware and or data destruction. You need them to supply a gennerator. If it's the power company then you need to hire a generator. But you need to make sure the UPS is up to the smoothing of the supply. Was not too much last time I hired one for a few days.

million ways to skin a cat depending on what exactly you want. For basic portable voice music reinforcement we used to have something similar to what you describe as rugby ball sized. The fostex SPA11 was incredible for its size. Not sure if you can still get them. TT

If it's on hubs then any second hand 100Mb switch will instantly vastly improve performance. I would not even use a hub in a home environment for 5 ports.. TT

I never botherd much about what the CLEO told us to use for our internal network. It was our internal network and we perscribed our Subnets and Vlans. All traffic in and out went through a NAT proxy/firewall server or the SMTP server. There were ( hopefully are no longer ) massive security implications from using the GFL lan addresses and being able to get to other schools networks.
