I have had 10-12 of them over time. But never have they said they are from microsoft . the script is usualy "Windows Support centre" Originaly I said I run linux, took them a while to get off the phone. The I decided to "Scam Bate" them set up an XP Virtual Machine and attempted to make the call as long as possible. 45 Minutes is my record. Even with a BIG desktop background saying " You Idiot , I am not being Scammed by you" and even my saying "" What's that desktop saying, how did that happen" it still took ages. The last time the guy on the phone went of on a rant when he realised he was being strung along. Him " You think your smart" me "Yep Smarter than you" Him "your not so smart, I trash your machine" Me "maybee but I am still smarter than you. It's a VM go ahead." Him "HAHAHAHAHA, I am deleteing all yoru files" Me "I see that, They will be back in 30 seconds" Him "HAHHAH they are all going" ME " Wow, you realy have me there, I am going to have to revert to snapshot" Him " You still think your smart" Me " Er Yes " Him " I am going to come and f....k you up the a....s" Me "That's the VM rebooted and restored by the way" Him " You ^$%^$^$%^$^$ ..... google analytics is a gr8 way to get stats on your websites. I have 4 domains in my name with 3 joomla sites 1 for a freinds garage, one for my car related ramblings and one for my computer ramblings.

the proxy server will be doing dns for the browser. make sure you have remote.domain.xxx and the local IP as proxy exceptions.

we do it with our internal web servers by using DNS zone of school.co.uk on the DC with an a-record "remote" for the server as it's internal IP. Rob

I think for an appeal to have any chance you would have to have some proof of a breakdown. 1) a tow by a proffesional company or 2) a recipt for a repair or 3) an engineers report 1) you aint got. 2) you did not want it repaird 3) the report will cost you an hrs labour so about the same as the fine.

even if you don't have true internet time I would have a fixed time reference in the building. Build a basic Linux box with NTPD and use that. Rob

Only ever had 2 tickets in 22 years. 1) Was on a quiet road in the midle of nowhere ( well next to Buttermeer in the lakes ) off the verge. There was hardly any one arround!! 2) Parked on a quiet corner for 15 mins round the back of my brother in laws old flat. Well, like the dolphins I will be leaving you all to face the vogons and intergalactic highway without me. After 15 1/2 years in education support I have finaly decided to move on, out of education, and into the financial services industry. I will be stepping out of 1st,2nd,3rd line support and concentrating more on supporting the network and server infrastructure and not end users. The main server platform is quite a bit smaller than what I am now used to but there will be 34 branch offices to support so a bit mroe meat in the network to look after. Got 2 weeks left to try and mind melt with the other guys in the team. It's more melting than data transfer... I guess I will pop in and see what's going on here but my new chalenges will not involve class sets of wi-fi, laptops with more missing than present key, and so on... In all since July I had about 8 Applications, 4 invites to interview, and 2 offers. I am happy, sad, excited and petrified! Rob

One point of note.. Who looks after you broadband router? Will they make routing updates for your new vlan? Rob

We started selling stuff on ebay, old laptops, PC's, duff batteries ( yes!! DUFF! ) , mobile phones, DVRs , TV. Etc.. Started just before Christmas and raised £650, seller restrictions make it a pain at the moment as the high value stuff we can only sell one a month. But I think we could generate 2K on stuff we have stored for ages. Takes a bit of time to do but worth it. Rob

We have a bunch of old HP ML350 G5's that run a test environment on 4x XenServer ( 2 running XenDesktop win7's 2 running Servers ) and a fifth running openfiler. Rob

Upgrade the firmware before you start. They won't work with POE switches with out the 802.3AF adapter. If you use the power brick make sure the mains lead is a very good fit ( had them fall out ). Buy the gimbal mount for them. It's over a year sinc I last touched one but I set up a fair number back then. One install had 8 of them in 4 redundant pairs.. Another site you could not even see the end point as there was a big building in the way. Rob
