There is so much good scenery in the UK, if you have not ventured too look at it then don't count it as a reason to move. I have not had a holiday outside the uk since 1984... Still we struggle each year to decide where to go in the uk as there are so many locations to explore. TT

Indeed. I did love the days when I was care free and just got on and did stuff. Now constrained by "Change Control" which can slow things down ( it's going to take 2 weeks to get to test a printer driver) . But it gives time for consideration. In just over 11 years I have spent in total £16023.50 on cars and maintenance (115,676 miles) That's £121 a month ( and will be dropping over time) to run 2 cars. Highlights include. Volvo 850 T5 Galaxy 2.3 Ghia Scorpio Cosworth V6 24V Mondeo 24V V6 Mercedes C230 Jaguar S-Type V6 BMW 530D Jaguar S-Type V8 Presently I think I have paid for assets of ~£2000 I expect that to lease similar to what we currently run would be £700 a month. over 11 years £92,400 with no assets. So as a financial descision I can't make finance stack up in any way shap or form by a seriously large margin. TT

LOL.. Yeah watch out for PC's/Servers that are not on WSUS and doing direct internet updates. Windows Update (and WSUS ) swallows as much bandwidth as it can. One of my colleagues proved this today trying to fetch updates for 2012 during the day. If it looks like network, then disconnect all the Distro/Edge switches from the new core and see if things improve. Then add them back in one at a time and see if a particular one causes increased traffic. If it does unplug every cable from the edge switch and add each back in. The common way for students to DOS a network is to loop an outlet into the outlet next to it.. Without spanning tree and BPDU Guarding the network will fall to it's knees. TT

For interest. The Snow. This related to dry powder snow and diesel locos. The dry snow was easily whipped up and would be injested by the air intake of the locomotive causing break down. Leaves. In the old days of rail travel breaking was done by break shoes applied to the running surface of the wheels. This had the advantage of scraping the running surface of debris picked up from the lines. For the loco that meant the traction wheels where clean, and also on the rolling stock the breaking wheels were clean. Modern times moved to inbord disk brakes and also breaking via the traction motors. Wheels were no longer cleaned, they became increasingly slippy which affected both breaking ability and traction. Once it is changed to a long complex password, never use it again. Put it in a sealed envelope signed on the seal by two senior staff and then have it put in the school safe. Change the password once a year. Then start ratcheting down on the other domain admin accounts so they are reduced and don't use Domain Admins as day to day accounts. TT

There is no free lunch. PCP/Lease Purchase/HP/Whatever They are all designed to generate revenue for the finance company (And I spend a good proportion of my time doing work for one). I would rather put money into owning more of that ( it's the roof over my head) than keeping up with the Joneses and having the latest flash car. Our MK2 Galaxy we have had for 7 years. It cost 2.5K at 5 years old and has used ~2.5k of general maintenance and MOT's in that time. That's £60 a month for a 7 Seater People Carrier. ( what would that have cost on lease?) My normal car is a 2002 S-Type 4.0 V8 Jag, cost £900 lovely car, unfortunatly I now need to replace the engine (bit unforunate) but sortable. Gave me 9 months service so £100 a month ( will be back in service after winter).. What would a new 4.0 V8 XF cost on lease?? And when I sell the jag I get some money. My car is presently a £300 Zetec Focus, tidy enough, does the job. Had it 2 months. £150 a month and dropping.. and it will still have some value at the end of the day. My colleauge wants to get a new car on lease/PCP to save money??? He's looking at paying £250 a month for a new focus. I change my cars all the time, I don't generaly loose more than £500 over a couple of years, they are generaly high power luxury saloons ( Jag, Merc, BMW, Etc) ... TT

Nothing to a whole heap. trap and log all authentication events for the domain admin. Find what has logged on and fix it. some events may bee weekly, monthly or less often ( even manual ). So tread carefully. TT

File level backup should not be done of a live SQL database. It may fail or take a very long time as the db file can't be fully locked to get a backup. Veritas BE has SQL agents, Veeam has "Application" job types. TT

It's time to mention your legal proceedings to the reseller, does not matter if it's their usual stuff the sold it. TT

It's your suppliers liability, so go to them regardless of what they say. I would sugest to them that the product has an inherant fault that exhibits across all the supplied units at different times. State that if they can't garuntee trouble free operation then you would like to have the units collected and replaced with something from another vendor. That should at least spur them into action, if it does not then state the organisations soliscitor will be in touch. TT

I think every car bar 4 have been from EBAY. and that's ~32 cars since 1992. My V8 Jag unfortunatly killed it's engine in october. So I picked up a 2000'W' focus 1.8 Zetec to stand in whilst I wait for the weather to fit a replacement engine to the Jag. Focus cost £300 with 6 Months MOT. Fun little car, if a tad underpowered on the open road. TT

According to my brother in law who lived in NZ for 2years the weather is not great. The entry criteria for AUZ are strict so it's not going to be easy. How often do you go out and enjoy the scenery in the UK? Do you do outdor activity? Do you have a family network? Do you have kids that may need looking after? Older family that may need looking after? TT

I do it for free generaly, but get beers, food, INkind . Pain is the ask me to do things with desktop OS's and software... Last time I realy supported that was just after Win7 and I had avoided Vista. TT

One thing that realy annoys me at Is that you can't get HP server firmware without a support contract. so maintaining your own ageing servers is more difficult. TT

So are the stolen from the break in or removed by pupils staff? You certainly can't make an insurance claim for them as there is no way to tell if they were stolen or they were removed whilst supervised. I can't think of anything else you can do but write them off and tighten up control over the remaining units.
