you have VM1 backed up to /vmfs/volumes/datastore2/VM1/VM1-2016-01-20_19-28-00 , you want to restore it to /vmfs/volumes/datastore3 create a file with anyname eg "VM-REST-TEST" in the file specify where the backed up machine is, where you want it to go, 3 for a thin provisioned disk, and the display name of the restored machine. so "/vmfs/volumes/datastore2/VM1/VM1-2016-01-20_19-28-00;/vmfs/volumes/datasore3;3;VM1-RESTORE" run ./ghettoVCB-restore.sh -c VM-REST-TEST Should then restore the VM to the new location, you will then need to import it to the inventory. You have to determine what you want to deliver and the security implications. Bear in mind that if anyone has access to your network, with freely available tools, they will, unless your seriously sh...t H..t, have your domain compromised within hours. I have seen hard evidence of this under test conditions. The way we did it was to provide only access to a RDS server (Actually Citrix) via a captive portal and firewall. All they could do was access a remote desktop with all the usual policies. TT

Just tried from my 2830 to my Home Linux Server with a newly created subinterface and it worked no problem. Add a second IP to one of the PC's and see if you can ping hat. I would then look at the subnet mask of the two virtual PBX IP's and ensure it's 255.255.255.0 and not something like 255.255.255.128 TT

It's about 3 years since I looked at Ghetto but I don't remember it being difficult to restore a machine. I will have to have a look at what it does to refresh my memory.. TT

We have hundreds of Wyse Xeniths (although wired). So long as they are kept the right way up they are generally reliable and perform fine. If they are placed upside down they overheat and die. TT

1000fx does not exist. 100fx does. if it is 100 and your stepping up to !m then distance may be an issue dependant on the actual installed fibre. But you should be able to dipswitch down to 100 anyway. TT

At my old place our sister schools NM left over christmas one year. His Second in command was left behind. Due to building work the had a couple of power outages. "Second" Could not get the network back up so I went over as the switchgear was Cisco. I found a 4507RE core switch which I was expecting, but it had 10 copper cables going to 10 MC's.. At the far end of each fibre was another MC connecting to 3560's... "Second" had restarted a few ot the MC's at the core without success. I restarted a couple of the far end MC's and those links came up. 15 mins later we had everything back up and running........ tens of thousands of pounds of switching hobbled by not using SFP's. The one I am removing tomorrow is supposed to be 1Gb but I suspect it is the root cause of our wan link dropping packets the backup window. Rather annoyed as there was no reason for it to be there! 1) You could very very easily introduce something that could get the network either cronicaly hacked or inadvertantly taken down. 2) The access point could cause interference to the rest of the wireless network Interfering with somone elses network is likly to get your wife into trouble.

We keep getting flyres for a company called serversource, they seem to have some outstanding deals on new Dell servers. Never used them and in our place the Mgmt are averse to buying from anyone but their normal channels so not likly to although we could save over 50% on our costs . IIRC its been free for many many years as a Hypervisor, They made a change a couple of years back to make it more free. We run our xenapp farms ( 25 servers on five hosts at HQ, 20 servers on 4 hosts at DR) on Xenserver supporting 500 thin sessions when running at HQ. At home my little quad core desktop is on ancient VMware 4, it runs my old SLES server, sophos UTM, XP test desktop, Media server and 2nd file server... I cant imagine living without virtual servers. Or work cabs would have 100 servers rather than 10. TT I can clone live to test easily, add/remove disks/ram/cpu . virtual networking is fantastic in vmware too. TT

VLANS are not going to help traffic issues in wi-fi Wi-Fi is CSMA-CD Wired is CSMA-CA What that basically means is Wired networks have "Collision Avoidance" the sender waits for the network to be quiet before sending. Wireless has no way to tell if the network is quite so sends regardless. If the network is busy it gets no respose, detects this and waits to send again... In a small wi-fi that's ok, the second or third attempt may get through... With 20+ clients 10 may not get through and have to resend 7 of them may still not get through and now an aditional other 5 want to send and 3 don't 4 of that ten mannage to send but the 6 remaining is joing be another 12 that are blocked , and then you go into resend meltdown. Only way to combat this is better wi-fi with more access points and higher throughput. TT

look at going virtual its free to do on VMware and Citrix. You will get a lot more out of the hardware that way and avoid future hardware upgrade problems. TT
