I've just installed System Center Service Manager and I am now configuring it. I've installed it on Server 2016 and I'm trying to run the following powershell command but I'm getting an error: Add-PSSnapIn SMCmdletSnapIn The error I get is the following: No snap-ins have been registered for Windows Powershell version 5 I've not really played around with powershell much so do I have to register this snap-in first before the above command will work, if so how do I do that?

If it was me I'd either change the IP on the NAS or adjust your Subnet accordingly as already suggested above.

No idea where you can get a refurb I'm afraid as after a quick Google I can only see 9 companies in Google Shopping selling new ones.

What configuration version are the 2012R2 VMs? I suspect if they are V5 and not V8 then that may be the issue. Easy to change to V8 but it's a oneway process and V8 configuration VMs will only work on a 2016 Hyper-V Host so once updated to V8 you can't move it or replicate it to a 2012R2 Hyper-V Server.

It sounds like this is becoming a very serious contender to Impero which (lets be honest) a lot of us here are becoming more and more fed up with not working properly all the time. It doesn't sound like Senso has all the features we need right now, but it does sound like they are working on adding a lot of things ASAP so we shall see what it's like in September when it's a couple of months away from our Impero renewal...

If you get a credit card and they give you a £500 limit to start with, if you dont use it (i.e. you pay it off each month) they tend not to raise it too much. If you use it to within 60%+ of the limit (in my personal experience) then they tend to up the limit every 6 months or so. Yes it will cost you some interest if you do that, but it will build or rebuild your credit rating. I use ClearScore and recently a credit card I use got a limit increase by a few thousand pounds and this made my credit score go up as it shows you can be trusted to spend up to that amount.

We install Scratch and Pyton on all the computer suites used by our ICT department in case they have any last minute room changes etc. and all works fine with no issues. Been like this for a few years now and our 'little rascals' have not caused any issues.

You may need to reconfigure your scanners to be able to read the type of barcodes Lenovo have chosen to use. For example you get EAN CODE 39, CODE 128, CODE 93 etc and you may need to reconfigure your scanner via it's instruction manual to read the different types - all makes/models are slightly different.

With Server 2016 Hyper-V the integration tools are no longer installed via a mounted ISO. They are instead installed via Microsoft/Windows Updates.

That's pretty much how we did it when I worked in FE and we had 5 LANs all linked together via microwave links to form our WAN.

Personally I find that method a bit 'hit and miss' (mainly miss) so I package my drivers up with a silent install switch and add them to the task sequence that way.

We use the following naming conventions for client PCs: Staff Laptops: StaffLap-001 Staff Desktops: StaffDesk-001 Computer Suites: A3-01 (A3 is the room number) Student Laptops: StuLap-001 We avoid using departmental names wherever possible as a PC may be in the Maths department now but in a couple of years time it could be relocated to another department. Some really old PCs I've come across are called 'Sarahs-PC' and Sarah left a long time ago so it gets confusing! By standardising in the above naming convention all we have to do is update the asset register when a PC changes hands or moves rooms etc. The only exception is if a computer suites PC moves rooms then it is renamed to that room.

To speed up logon times, Group Policies are automatically cached on client computers which is why your backgrounds wont change straight away. You'll either need to do a gpupdate /force on them (perhaps via a logon script) or consider changing the Configure Group Policy Caching setting in a Group Policy - this could have a negative impact on your logon times though. Worth a try on a test PC first and see what happens. One other suggestion is to see if there is a logon script that you could run that would change the wallpaper on your computers - a quick Google for this should give you the answer you're looking for.

You can't do much more than that then! I was sure I'd heard a message on your support line before and this confirms it. Never seen any emails though - that must be a good sign as no emails means no known major incidents affecting us!

You can say what you like about them (and believe me I'm very honest with them) but we've never had a problem getting through them on the phone. Very, very short waiting times. They could put a message on their support number saying what the major issue is so anyone calling up about it can then hang up and not bother them whilst they resolve the issue.

We use SCDPM to disk and to tape. As the partitions on the disks are not mounted by the OS as such they are (currently) not susceptible to Ransomware-and-the-like. If you're not onsite everyday you could remote in and unmount the drive to prevent it from being ransomwared (if that's such a word).

The longer you have been using Impero, the more logs you will have. The more logs you have the slower the log viewer is as it loads them all up when you view them!! What we only found out the other day (from Impero) is that you can actually tell Impero which log files to load - in other words, you can keep older logs but basically unattach them from the log viewer so it only loads the most recent log files that you are actually interested in. If only we had known this years ago!
