This is because removing the power cable does not remove all the power from your PSU as the capacitors will also store some power for a period of time, holding down the power button for 10-30 seconds after removing the power cables removes all the power from your computer so does a full/proper turn off of the computer. You can sometimes see this with a laptop power supply that has an LED on it, when you unplug some from the mains the LED remains on for a while as there is some residual power sill in the PSU itseld.

You need to say what your price range is as HP do entry level gaming laptops starting at around £999 but if you've only got a budget of £500 then that's no use to you and you wont get the answer you're looking for. Do you want a laptop or a desktop and if desktop do you need a monitor, if so what size would you like?

I need to get some data off of an old CentOS 6 Linus server that is installed on a Hyper-V VM. I have created a new VM with UBUNTU (with a GUI) and have attached the old Virtual Hard Disk and it now appears in the Disks app: How do I access the data that is on Partition 3 as per the above screenshot. I have very limited Linux knowledge so very grateful for any help!

If you have Configuration Manager (SCCM/MECM) then you can force an upgrade out through that I believe.

I have kinda given up all hope and used the freeware program called DoubleDriver to backup the drivers from one we had not imaged and then you can restore them to all your laptops after you've rebuilt them. I think you can also import the drivers that DD has backed up in to SCCM like you would normal drivers from the manufacturer but I didnt have time to test. I've got another 35 DynoRod laptops that are different to these and again no drivers available so I think the UK Government has wasted it's money once again.

Hopefully none of our Dynabook computers will go wrong then! These tablets have Satellite Pro written on them and if this had still been Toshiba they would have only been Satellite's and not part of the Pro range. The build quality seems OK, it's just the support that seems lacking as not being able to get the drivers is a red flag for me as that's such a basic thing.

I can't believe the government has spent tax payers money on laptops that have drivers that are so top secret they have to be locked away in a password protected website that only a select group of people have access to Luckily DoubleDriver works OK on these laptops (ran it on one of the laptops before we imaged it) so we're having to use that to install the drivers on the laptops which involves rotating your head 90degrees as until all the drivers are installed the screen is in landscape mode even when it's in landscape position on the keyboard which is literally a pain in the next!!

We use SIMS and ESS are not supporting it on Windows 11 until September 2022 so we wont be installing it on Staff computers until then (assuming ESS supporting it isnt delayed that is).

We've only ever used the VeryPC Flex machines and never had the backs fall off so that's a bit odd - we use Kensington locks in most rooms to secure the back cover on the Flex PCs and in 1 computer suite we just screw the plastic back cover on so the students can't remove any cables etc. I do know what you mean about noisy fans, on some of the ones we've had for many years the bottom fan (we have the monitors mounted on the side of some our ones) gets clogged with dust making them noisy so we just disconnected them as they dont do a great deal and after a few minutes of being noisy they tend to quieten down.

I’ve set up a test lab using a decommissioned server we had, I’ve installed Windows Server 2019 on it and set up Hyper-V as I will be using Virtual Machines in my lab. I have created a PRIVATE switch and created 3 Virtual Machines who are all connected to it; DC1 (Server 2016), FS1 (Server 2019) and a Windows 10 Client PC. I have also created a second Virtual Switch called DOMAIN. On the Virtual Machine called DC1 that I have set up as a Domain Controller I have added a second Network Card and connected it to the DOMAIN virtual switch so this VM is connected to both the physical network and my test lab network. I have configured DHCP on DC1 and bound it to just the network card that is on the PRIVATE virtual switch so there is no chance of DHCP hopping over and causing mayhem on our live domain! How can I give/share the internet connection that DC1 has access to (via it’s second network card connected to our physical network) to the other virtual machines that are only connected to the PRIVATE switch? I’ve done this before a long, long time ago when a College I worked at started teaching MCSE courses so I installed 2 network cards in their server and configured it so their test domain didn’t come anywhere near our live domain except for sharing the internet connection. In the back of my mind I’m getting that I need to possibly bridge the two networks together on my virtual Domain Controller (DC1) but I’ve not done this for years. Is this still the right/best way to achieve what I’m after?

Trying to download Microsoft Office Visio (Click to Run) but it errors out asking me if I'm connected to the internet! Does anyone know the list of websites I need to make sure are unblocked on our new web filter for Office Click To Run to work and download the files so it can be installed/configured?

A computer one with the loopback processing enabled. In my mind of thinking, even if it is not being applied for a reason, GPRESULT should be showing it as not being applied? I've not added all of the other group policies to the Test OU yet, I shall add them one by one and test after I've had some lunch!

This morning I've managed to get some more time to look in to this issue. I have a freshly imaged desktop which I have placed in to an OU that is used for testing along with a test user account: Now when I do a GPRESULT /R a couple of the Group Policies are being applied, but one is not: Here's a screenshot from Group Policy Management showing what should be being applied: Why is the STUDENT - Lockdown Settings not listed as being applied? All this does is have a setting for Edge to stop Extensions from being installed/used.

If it was just one group policy not working I could understand it and investigate that. But for ALL group policies to stop working is very odd. They all appear to be enabled: And security filtering is set to Authenticated Users (which is what I would expect to see): The error does say it's something to do with the security filtering but that hasnt been changed on any of the group policies let alone ALL of them and as you can see it's set to Authenticated Users which is the correct/default setting I believe?

Yes inheritance is blocked but there are only a couple of Group Policies at the root and at least 6 computer based policies applied directly to the OU that the computers are in. I believe so, I did some DCDIAG tests on the Domain Controllers yesterday and the only error that came up was an incorrectly configured DNS entry for PaperCut (something I need to look in to another day). Not that I can see. I've just re-imaged a spare PC and the issue is still occurs.

I know group policies were working 2-3 weeks ago as the 'little rascals' had discovered VPN plugins to Edge so along with getting the ISP to block the stores their end, I used a Group Policy setting to stop extensions working and that all tested OK so something has happened in the last couple of weeks to stop ALL group policies from working on the computers. It confirms the test PC I am now using is in the correct OU. An OU which has 6 computer group policies applied directly to the OU. This is very odd.

As far as I am aware, boundary groups are used to let SCCM know what computers it can deploy to, if you have no boundaries then as far as SCCM is concerned there are 0 computers it can deploy to.
