I'd like to be able to connect a laptop to a particular wireless network during the tasksequence but the way I have tried doesnt appear to be working. I would also like to put the laptop in to a Workgroup at the end of the task sequence (after it already having been in a Domain during the first part of the task sequence so certain software packages can install). Here's how I've tried to do the wireless: It just errors out and not connect - do you do it a different/better way that works? Here's the 2 different ways I've tried to do the Workgroup option: For some of the software to install it initially is joined to a Domain in the task sequence but these laptops need to be in a workgroup when they go out so if I can automate this at the end of the Task Sequence then that's one less thing to do.

Slightly off-topic but I see you activate office within your Task Sequence - I've installed Office 2019 for the first time and when I log on to the newly imaged laptop, Office 2019 isnt Activated so could you share what command(s) you're running to activate office as I've tried one and it's not activating it? ALL SORTED NOW! As the last version of Windows 10 I used to create a Golden Image was 1909 and we're not on 20h2.6 I decided to create a new Task Sequence from scratch (as opposed to copying an old one and editing the relevant parts) and even though every single step has exactly the same settings (some I even copied and pasted) from the old task sequences it just didnt work as it should from not setting the local administrator account up correctly to it not running the new command I added from this thread to add a local user account. I tried creating another TS from scratch and that also didnt work properly. I then went back to my old way of doing things and copied/duplicated a TS, edited that with the new settings and pointed it to my new 20h2.6 Golden Image file I used previously and that worked! Very strange.

I've just checked and oddly enough that doesn't work either! Despite it being set, the local Administrator account is disabled so somethings not right! After creating the software build I use the Manual Capture from SCCM/MECM which uses SysPrep to prepare the image for deployment etc.

The user is still not being created - I'm clearly having a 'moment' so can you spot what I'm doing wrong? As a test I'm trying to create an account called Student with a password of student using the command as detailed previously in this thread but for whatever reason it's not creating the account so I'm clearly doing something (so simple) incorrectly somehow!

Thanks - I've moved it and trying again now I've not touched SCCM/MECM for around 2 years so I'm trying to remember everything I've forgot!

Thanks for the quick reply! Unfortunately that hasn't worked for us. No idea why not, the user is just not being created for some reason.

Is it possible to add a local user during a PXE booted Task Sequence in SCCM/MECM when the computer is in a Workgroup? People seem to be suggesting you simply add the command net user /add in a command line within the task sequence - it sounds like they are just guessing as the command can only be run in an elevated command prompt and during the task sequence the commands are not elevated. Has anyone successfully added a local user to a computer during a task sequence? If so could you share a screenshot of what you did to achieve this?

Of course! I actually knew that, I just forgot about the International ISO! Thanks for reminding me - it's been a couple of years since I created a Golden Image I had forgotten all about the International ISO being the UK/GB version!

The last Golden Image I created and deployed via SCCM (now MECM) was Windows 10 1903 - I've just created and captured a Windows 10 20h2.5 Golden Image but despite choosing UK/GB regional settings during the installation of Windows when I was creating my Golden Image, I have noticed that within Configuration Manager that the captured image has en-US set and not the UK settings. I'm assuming that SysPrep has stripped out the UK Regional Settings that I believe now come from the Microsoft Store or that they didnt get installed properly or something. What's the best way to get UK regional settings on Windows 10 20h2.5 when deploying via Configuration Manager?

You should not do steps 12 and 13 - everything must be added through SCCM. SCCM uses WDS in it's own way so if you start adding things directly to WDS SCCM wont work properly.

DPM should really be build on a physical server and not a VM else you will have all sorts of issues as it's not designed to be used that way - hopefully in the future it will work better in a VM but right now bare metal (as you put it) is the only real practical way to go else you'll have difficulty getting storage arrays and tape libraries to not only connect to the VM but to DPM itself.

I think we as a school got burnt a few times with people buying rubbish from eBay so unless it's an absolute emergency for an obscure part for old equipment then purchases from eBay are not allowed where we are.

We only have 120GB SSDs in some computers so they easily get filled up as we dont have the luxury of time to run delprof throughout the year - we're stretched across 4 very busy Academies so need as many things to take care of themselves.

Thanks for the great replies - I wonder if it could be put in the Default User Profile so it gets copied across to each newly created local profile that way? I might give that a go and see what happens. It wont take long to test and if it doesnt work then I'll do what you've mentioned above and get it copied across each time a user logs on. Thanks

Just testing MuseScore on some of our PCs as our Head of Music has requested it be installed on a bank of laptops and the Music Computer Suite. As we're a school with 1200+ students, local profiles are removed after each logon to prevent the hard disk drives from filling up, as such we try to disable as many things that are supposed to run just the once as possible as because the local profile is created each time a student logs on it will run each time thinking it's the first time it has been run. With this in mind, does anybody know if there is a way of disabling the MuseScore Startup Wizard? Normally we'd do this sort of thing in a relavent Group Policy but I dont think MuseScore.org has created any ADMX files that we can use (at least I can't find any).

I'm very glad I no longer work in the Retail Sector as it's just not a nice time for them right now. Thorntons have missed 2 Easters and 1 Christmas on the High Street which is their peak times for trade - online sales have gone up 71% so it's no surprise they are sadly closing all their stores permanently. They need to concentrate on online sales and team up with one of more supermarkets to sell their chocolate.

My understanding is that they are supposed to be for Further and Higher Education - a lot of academies think that .ac.uk would look better on their letterheads thinking the .ac parts means Academy.

Our Head of Music has been using MuseScore with his students over the last few months when they have all been working remotely, now I've been tasked with installing it on the Windows 8.1 computers in the Music Computer suite which is going to be 'fun' as on the first machine I did a test install on it just errors out when you run it! The fact that it's Open Source has meant no issues getting students to install it on their computers at home so they have all been able to continue studying music whilst the Schools were 'closed'.

I was wondering what we were going to be able to do with them when/if the Pandemic is over and now I have a use for them!

We set up SCCM some years ago and never really used the reporting side of things as all we needed it for was to push out a few pieces of software and to deploy our 'Golden Images' and it's worked really well for that. Never needed to run a report before, until now! And when I do so I get an error saying that the "Report processing has been canceled by the user. (rsProcessingAborted)" It takes a while for this error to come up so when you run a report it gives the false impression it's doing something! When I check in the (SQL) Reporting Services Configuration Manager a service account is configured and when I look in SQL Server Management Studio the account has all the right permissions (in fact whilst I'm investigating this issue, all permissions were ticked/checked to see if that solved the problem) but I'm still getting this error. I'm trying to get a list of all the software installed on our staff laptops so need to get the reporting side of SCCM/MECM up and running so any help is appreciated!

That's why I have stickers on our 60 odd Geobooks so they can see which is the headphone socket and which is the power socket!

What problem(s) did you have that resetting the BIOS fixed?

Setting up some more of these GeoBooks and USB drives suddently disappearing so having to unplug and plug them back in again - only one dead one so far today (power LED comes on when you try to turn on but there's no display).
