Just installing Steinberg Dorico for our Music department and along with the install file they downloaded is some Additional Content: I've asked them what they wanted me to do with it and they said to put it in my cached profile for them all to access! Well that's not happening so I asked then how they used this additional content and not getting much sense from them. Do they need to be saved in a specific location (i.e. in Program Files etc) or to use the files do they simply browse to a location they have been stored on such as a network share?

This may explain an issue one of our users has been having so we'll have to take a look and see if this KB is installed and if the problem is resolved or not on its uninstallation.

With a bog standard printer like a HP Colour LaserJet printer that have no special features a Type 4 driver would be OK but if you have a MFD with finishers on it such as hole punching and stapling then I believe it's those advanced features that are no available with a T4 driver.

I though the latest thing Microsoft said was that it was going to be left to the printer manufacturers to write type 4 drivers - type 4 drivers were introduced in 2012 so they've had 9 years to write them but I guess until now they've never had a reason to spend time writing them and have stuck with the old type 3 postscript drivers rather than the type for XPS drivers.

Same here! We were told by the Government to wipe them as they will stop working, so that's what we have done, they've been wiped! Now they've spent who knows how much money on more licences for software they have previously told us to get rid of by wiping the laptops!!

Is this in addition to (or a replacement of) NetSupport School and DNA?

I've turned it off with a Group Policy for the students as the location kept on randomly coming up as Boarstall (which sounds like Borstall which is a type of young offenders institution) so didnt want them to start a rumour they were all in a prison-like environment etc!! I've left it on for the 120+ staff and yes you can change it manually but it will then tell you that it's raining at work even when they are at home in a different county so was just wondering if there was a way of broadcasting a Geolocation on our network so it would at least be correct at work as it looks daft if their computer on the projector says it's currently raining when there is clearly a clear blue sky outside?!

We've recently installed the latest version of Windows 10 on to all of our computers so we've just seen the News and Interests thing on the taskbar for the first time. The only thing is, it tells us it's about to stop raining in 20 minutes, in Harrow (it was Boarstall the other day) which is quite literally miles and miles away from where we are! When I take my laptop home, the geolocation shows my exact location (and I mean exact as it's a dot right on my house) yet at work it shows the south of England (where Harrow is). I believe the geolocation information comes via your ISP (IP address allocation I assume) but our ISP says there's nothing they can do to change this. We have a server pushing out time information (NTP) so I was wondering does anyone know if there is a similar thing for the Geolocation that we can set so when laptops are on site it reports the correct Geolocation for our Academies and when they go home it shows whatever location their ISP says it is?

Sorry be we scrapped using this as there was little or no support out there for it so never got it fully up and running to test it properly to see if it met our needs or not.

I've just tried this but we're still getting the UAC prompt asking for an admin user name or password. We've got at least 120+ members of staff and a large fleet of printers and all members of staff have had a laptop software refresh so a nice new clean build on them and now we're getting inundated with people wanting an admin password just to install a printer!

We used to use Mindmaple Lite but they are now charging for their software so I'm looking for a free/open source alternative to suggest to staff instead so can anyone recommend some alternatives please?

That's how you do it for an Application (i.e. an MSI file) scripts are .bat or .cmd so are Packages where there is no such option or am I missing something? We too are on 2103 after a fresh install the other week...

I can run it with /qn to do a silent install as it is but within SCCM (as far as I'm aware) you can only assign an icon to an MSI file - how have you assigned a logo/thumbnail/icon to a script as I dont have that option? Thanks - I'll give that a try as if this works then should they want to upgrade to the subscription version in the future then it'a already installed! I just hope there isnt a 30 day free trial included as they may get used to features that will become unavailable to them outside of the trial...

Is there an MSI available for the Basic version of SMART Notebook? I've got the .exe but I'd rather have an MSI if there is one as I'd like to put it in the SCCM Software Center and if you have an MSI you can add a logo/icon to it to make it easier for staff to locate. Thanks.

Tried and it's like pulling teeth and just wastes our time trying to get through to them. Complete an utter waste of tax-payers money as the support is as rubbish as the laptop quality in our experience.

We will only require to install a handfull of the Apps - we dont have any Packages tab/section when we log in to the Admin Console so I think we'll have to contact Adobe Support as the things I've found on the Internet all say the same thing; to click on an option we dont have.

I've not got a 'supply' of working screens that I can use to replace the ones where the backlight has failed - they're from the ones that the keyboards and USB ports have stopped working on!!! #SparesAndRepairs

The last time I looked at looked at RDX drives for use with DPM it said they were not directly compatible with DPM and you have to purchase some additional software (a virtual tape library) that costed around £1,500 at the time. We went for a LTO Tape Library instead (we got a refurbished one with a 3yr NBD warranty on it).

We're in the process of purchasing Adobe Creative Cloud for Education where our licensing is per person and not per computer. I'm trying to find out how we go about install all the Creative Cloud Apps on all of our computers and all I can find are links to something that is no longer supported so I was wondering how you guys that have the latest Creative Cloud package go about installing it on all your computers?

Have you checked your DNS records/settings as if you type the error in to Google, Microsoft comes up saying something about DNS AutoDiscover settings being the culprit?

As others have indicated, DOA should be dealt with by the supplier.

Just checked DPM this morning and it has now decided that the tapes that expired last month are no longer Off-Site Ready and have indeed expired - just in time for Saturdays backups to off-load on to tape

I've just put (what I believed) were expired tapes in to our tape library on our DPM server and they are showing up as Off-Site ready, even though they expired last month so should be identified as Expired on DPM. As you can see the tape (which I got from our Expired tapes pile) clearly shows it was due to expire on the 28th of May 2021 and it's now the 3rd of June 2021 so why is it still being marked as Offsite-Ready rather than Expired?

Set one going last night and this morning I can confirm the wireless driver is now installed but it wasnt connected to the wireless network that I set in the task sequence. it does manually set OK so the driver is working. [EDIT] I've just manually run the command in the task sequence and it worked so not sure why it's not working in the task sequence.

Good to know - having never heard of a brand before you never know if it's good or not.
