Over the summer I will be moving my Domain over to a 2k8 DC. At the minute it is running on 2 2k3 DC's. I hope after the move that these will continue to function, but the 2k8 to be the primary server. How do I go about doing this? Thanks in advance!

How do i convert it? I checked with the manufacturers and we are allowed to do this! 100Mbps to clients, servers have 4 network ports teamed at 1Gbps each

Is there any way that I can put a DVD on the server and allow clients to play it on their computers? I have tried several things such as streaming media servers, but to no avail. Is there any free options available to do this? I don't want lots of clients connected - about 2 at a time!

Just formatted a laptop that had all of the Foundation Year Reports . Can anyone tell me any software that can recover them?? The hard drive was formatted from FAT32 to NTFS. I don't really want to pay for the software.

We are planning a major upgrade to our network, including purchasing a laptop trolley and replacing the existing WAPS. The plan is to start with 30 laptops and then increase this to 60 and then 90. Can anyone tell me which laptops they have, what trolley they have, what WAPS and switches they have and where the WAPS are placed. I know laptops are a pain, but our HT is very pro "mobile learning"! Thanks!

Well said. ;-) I never use scripts - no need at all. The easiest way to do the message at log on is to use the Group Policy, nice and simple and that is what they are made for. Why script something from scratch when someone has already included a feature to do it for you? Go for the Group Policy Tabby! I am 16 as well and trust me, policies are much easier than scripts!

You might, but your Techie here has never actually worked their proper hours - always working overtime. Why am i talking to you over the internet? I just need to turn round!!! Oh, and you've forgotten in our list about the industrial printer and thick admin staff!! Can our photocopier/printer count for 10 points as this thing is not normal!!

In Active Directory find the username of this person, go into properties and the account tab. Click the Log On To... box and specify the computers that you want her to log on to, or alternatively there is an option to stop multiple logs ons, can't remember where it is though....

Just got a new Dell PowerEdge R200 and was wondering whether it is normal for the task manager to show red lines (see screen grab) or whether this is something more serious at work? I have got Dell Server Administrator installed if this causes this to happen??

Wireless Network (outdoors) - Big Investment - Which Company?
button_ripple replied to a topic in Wireless Networks
You could tell the WAPS which MAC addresses to allow to connect to the Points, therefore you will not recieve any unwanted visitors, or try a non-broadcasting network with a different SSID to the rest of your site! -
TIWBM making a loopback on our network and then spend "hours fixing it" to make staff appreciate me more! Then i will spend the rest of the day thinking what it is i actually do here, apart from sitting in my cupboard plotting!!

Anyone have any experience with purchasing telecoms?
button_ripple replied to Disease's topic in How do you do....it?
speak to Vocera or World Wide Solutions (reseller) - they do a very cool system - highly recommended! -
The wireless is fine with WPA and spaces if you use the "create" option within the "Networks" option, the wireless option will not show them. The built in viewer for VNC i think is fantastic as you can quickly reset someone's password if they forget it in the staffroom

Can someone recommend me a cheap 48-port 1Gig unmanaged switch? Doesn't need anything fancy Thanks!

I would say a little bit over powered, you would do better with a 3.2 GHz Dual Core, not Quad as you have said you are only running Audacity and Movie Maker, no programs for schools will need quad core for a long time, stick with dual core!
