Can anyone give me an idiots guide to making a bootable usb memory stick? I have tried a few things I found on Google but they don't seem to work!! Would prefer something free !

Check with RM how much it will cost to get an engineer on-site for half a day they should be able to fix it for you. Sometimes they are flexible with their warranties, how far out of date are they??

My head has just said that she will give me some money to get a qualification in ICT (currently employed as the techie with nothing to show that I am any good with computers!) what should I be looking at? Obviously not too expensive, but the head said she is fine if it is a day release (I would prefer home/distance learning!) Looking at practically anything to show I can fix computers/administer servers. (been looking at MCDST and MCSA). Do you have to have the MCDST to go on a MCSA course? Found this home learning course, but not sure if it gives you a MCDST and an MCSA or you just do the things for the MCDST, but never get the qualification! Share the printer on the computer it is attached to, add it to the server, then share it on the server. (You may need to add it to the printer limiting software). Also, on the local computer, give everyone full permissions. Then on the server put the right security. (I put the permissions on the local computer once and it went all funny!! )

Not entirely sure about the replication, I would guess it is WinSuite doing something stupid. I wouldn't try to remove WinSuite, it is an absolute nightmare!! If I was you, get your new Domain Controller, and setup the AD from scratch (may take some time and cause annoyance, but it is easier than trying to get rid of WinSuite.

Haven't had a single problem with it yet! Going to wait for it to be available over WSUS before letting everyone else have it though!

We don't have the problem of people bringing in hardware, it is mainly software here, which goes through several months of testing before being installed (only if they haven't asked us before buying!!)

Plain Windows here, used to have WinSuite until we convinced the head teacher that it was a waste of money

They haven't got addresses, so how do I sort this problem? If I just delete them and remake the user will everything work as normal (no permission problems)??

We have 2 for junior school, 2 for infants and 1 primary (we merged 2 years ago). The reason we have 2 for each school is because one is for 2002 and the other 2003 (not sure why!!)

Bit of an odd problem, We have 2 members of staff that cannot have a message sent to them via the "General Message" link, they are both non-teaching and are members of lots of permission groups. We have another user who is in exactly the same groups, but can have messages sent to them. What is causing this problem? I have had a look through the permissions, but cannot spot anything. Anyone got any ideas?

I used the ESS upgrade tool on capitaess website, ran it on all of our databases. Seems to have solved the problem. Bit annoying that SOLUS won't upgrade all databases on the server .

No, but I have now, I still get this error though!

Just installed the March Release onto the SIMS server and it went fine. Now on all FMS workstations I get the following message (they claim to have upgraded ok): There is a module/database incompatibility. Current database version: 6.92.117 Module Requires: 6.93.150 This module version: 6.116.150 Database Requires: 6.100.117 HELP!!!!!

I got through school with a lunch time detention and an after school detention. The lunchtime one was for not holding the door open for a teacher (didn't spot them (they were tiny!!!)) HP OfficeJet Pro L7680. We have replaced most of the office printers with these. They have duplexing, and are apparently cheaper than a laser. They are also very quick!! You do have to get the XL cartridges otherwise you will be replacing them constantly. Dabs sell them quite cheap! Or, Our head has a Brother DCP-130C which is still going well and they have been using it for the past year. They used to use a HP Deskjet D7360 and got through an ink cartridge a week. Now it is an ink cartridge a term (roughly)!

Once a year for keyboards, mice and screens on desktop computers. If a staff laptop comes in and looks dirty then we will give it a clean, same when an old laptop is going to a new member of staff. The pupil laptops are never cleaned. I have seen a TA give a few of them a quick wipe once!!

Disable bidirectional support We have a HP LaserJet 1022nw that wouldn't work until this was done. Although it prints fine when I install it locally on my computer and don't disable Bidirectional Support!

We have received 2 RM Ones with dead pixels, one actually had a small crack underneath the glass. I didn't bother to chase it up though as it is isn't very noticeable and isn't causing a problem or any damage.

We've named them like this: Primary (file (used to be DC before we expanded)), Secondary (apps and print), Tertiary (Admin), Quaternary (DC) Just going to keep going like that! Before we got primary and secondary we had server and nt1.

I would let your line manager know that WinSuite is no longer supported, you can get licences, but that is it! You can do everything WinSuite does with group policies (apart from the log on thing!!) We got rid of WinSuite here about 1 1/2 years ago, never looked back!
