Does anyone know of a way that I can create large amounts of folders for users home directories. I have a csv file with pupil names and I would like them converted into folders! I have read the threads on here but none of them were very useful. I don't know enough about scripts to write one to do it. Can anyone help me?

We have a fibre cable at our school between our two buildings - no problems at all. It was supposed to be installed underground, but the school decided not to do it as it would be too expensive to fix if it broke. We also have a CAT5e cable through a caternary to one of our mobile huts. I don't think that there is anything stopping that?

I have had WSUS running on one of our servers for a while now, but within the last few weeks it has been showing the SQLSERV process as using over 1GB RAM. It runs no other SQL Server, so it must be WSUS. The server is the Domain Controller and DNS/DHCP. It's not a massive problem, the server has 4GB to use, just want to know why it uses so much and if I can stop it. I don't have office updates enabled. The network has around 150 computers.

I need a cheap and cheerful laser printer!! It needs to have large toner capacity, mono and built in ethernet. Doesn't need to be very quick, about 20 ppm Any recommendations???

I have lost my temper twice, once because a member of the SMT came and and called me a useless piece of s*** - because she dropped her laptop and lost all of her work. The second time was when a member of staff insisted that I went to the shop down the road and brought some batteries for the school cameras. It was raining, it was last thing on Friday and I had just recieved some bad news. If I do get annoyed at someone I grit my teeth and bear it and just keep thinking (5 hours till home time..... 4 hours 59 minutes till home time..... 4 hours 58 minutes till home time..... )

Vista Business lets the recycle bin follow the user, so you should be able to redirect it if you have Vista. Not sure how to with XP.

I have got 1, but only because it has been "disposed" of in the view of the school . It is a 1.6 GHz Centrino with 480 MB of RAM. It has been "thrown" because it has a broken DVD drive (essential apparantly!), and a broken internal wireless card - the laptop was dropped at some point and the card had moved out of it's slot. If I asked for one I wouldn't get one! (see other post about no computer in FFS!)

I have told the server to restart the service, but this doesn't seem to help.

We have just moved 2 of our printers onto our server 2008 box. They all work, except suddenly the server is attaching itself to random printers that are shared on other computers. We cannot delete them and the print spooler on the server stops whenever a print job is passed through the random printers. Any ideas? I have attached a screen shot of the printers folder, the 2 random printers are the ones that say (redirected). These printers just disappear and are replaced by other ones, then they disappear and so on... Just found out the print spooler also stops when we disconnect out remote desktop connection session.

I have had this before - not sure what I did, but the printer just sorted itself out. Is this printer installed on a server operating system? What one? I think that it is to do with the computer not recognising that it has a print job, as it didn't process itself, but when the print queue is open it sees that it has jobs to process.

We have just had a wireless survey done, and are now waiting for the quote. We have had several different opinions but nothing like this. What we need from our wireless network is complete coverage of our school site which originally going to power 30 pupil laptops and 30 teacher laptops. This is soon going to expand to 1 laptop per pupil. Normally people suggest 1 access point per classroom, but we have just been recommended to have 1 really large cisco access point to cover 6-7 classrooms. Any idea if this will work effectively?

We aim for a maximum of 1 minute to log in from cold on a wired computer. We have had up to 20 minutes for an entire class to be ready via a wireless coonection. Staff know they are slow and don't take them anymore!!

If you are looking for a mono laser try the 1022n or the 1020. They were available from dabs a month ago, don't know about now

We have the SomeHelp Helpdesk installed as a way of us keeping a log of the problems that we fix. Until now we have been using it over a wired connection. Now I have just tried to connect to it with a wireless connection and found that I cannot open it. I can access everything else on the computer, but not the helpdesk. The helpdesk is a simple access database which you have to "link to" when you first open it. What is going on?

I need a script which can delete an old printer connection, then re-install the printer to a new server path. Can anyone help me with this?

Check in the setup to see if the Chassis Intrusion has been set off. This happened here once. If you reset the chassis intrusion - it tells you how, it might start to work again. Somebody might have tried to open the cases.

We had this problem when a member of staff leaned on the smart board. The membrane underneath the board was damaged. You need to get it replaced under warranty. Once the membrane goes it cannot be repaired

If you can still get into the laptop under a different log on name, you might be able to do something about it. If you go to run and type in "control userpasswords2" you may be able to change the administrator password. This does depend on you being able to still get into the laptop and having enough permissions to get to it. Another thing you could try is joining the laptop to a domain (if it has pro on it) and then resetting the local administrator password on the laptop, then you could remove it from the domain. If you can't do either of these i would just re-install the computer - btw can't you contact the manufacturer for a reset CD? This would be totally legal and put on all the drivers/software, etc...

I have an Evesham Prestige Soho with 2.4 GHz single core. 512 RAM. 40 GB HDD. Now that is slow!! It is all the school will give me! If i need to do anything big i will use a faster bit if equipment somewhere in the school.

We have just implemented a server 2008 as the primary domain controller. Now roaming profiles only work correctly for Domain Admins not normal users. What is happening and how can I sort it? I have read a few articles on Google and they say that the permissions of the Domain User Group have been modified slightly. How can i change these?
