  1. We have got a HP Laserjet 1022nw connected to our wireless network. The print queue for this printer is set-up on a Win XP Pro machine and is shared to allow staff to print to it (money is very tight at the min!!) Only problem is when people send a document to print I have to open the printer queue to make the job go through. (nothing else, just open it). What I want to know is - y? This doesn't happen to me when i print from the computer itself just when staff print to it over the network.
  2. didn't work . It can't find the drivers when i search for them on the CD. And they aren't copied to the computer when the program is installed. Any ideas????????
  3. How do i do this?
  4. Ok. I have just tried to install the Digi blue software onto 2 windows xp pro computers. Software installs fine but when i go to plug the cameras in i get the message 'windows cannot install the hardware' I can't find the drivers on the CD - even though when i installed the camera on to a server it picked up on the drivers. What am i not doing / what needs to be done
  5. How do i tell them via group policy??? Also in the management program i can't seem to add computer through the computers option (via search??)
  6. NNNNNOOOOOO!!!! We hate them. They are always jamming and run out of ink way to fast.
  7. Right. Just installed WSUS on our server and have got it too download the updates we need. After that i am stuck! I have no idea how to set the clients to connect to connect to it. The IIS only shows and under construction page and i can't get the console to show anything. What needs to be done??? HELP
  8. I go on a course in 2 weeks time for an entire day. I would like to set up a webcam or a digital blue camera in my office to record people coming in and rumaging through my stuff. Anyone know how to set it up to record from 7:30 - 5:00. I don't want it recording over 2 nights. Also any ideas of where to hide it as we don't want people to know that we are watching. This is because on the last 3 courses that i have been on our equipment/files have been gone through and we want to know who it is. Thanks
  9. Ok, we have about 30 laptops which are all wireless. We have an access point per 2 classrooms (we are all based on 1 floor). When a class wishes to use all the laptops the speed is rubbish. We have looked at solutions and it appears that an access point in all the classrooms, a managed switch and n speed wireless networking. Does this seem to be a good idea? Does anyone know of any access points with a LAN (not WLAN) speed of 1 gbit? This would be useful because the problem does seem to concern the cabling as well as the points. Also the rule of 15 to 1 doesn't work here. We have about 4 connected and the speed becomes unuseable!! My location is: Luton
  10. Is there a way that me and my manager can lock our computers so that no one else can get into them. We already use the whole win + L command to lock them when they are not in use but would like it if they could only allow us to log on. We are both classed as 'domain admins' in active directory and are using server 2003 and Win XP SP2. We really need do to this because staff keep coming in before we arrive and switch on our computers so that they can print colour. We can tell who is doing it by checking there profiles in documents and settings but would prefer it if they couldn't get access. HELP PLEASE!!
  11. What are the classic phrases that you hear on a regular basis. Today i got 'Is the Network On?' when someone had not synchronized there offline files and was told they were disconnected. Also i have had 'My large white thingy on the wall is now only showing blue!' this thread should be very interesting!!
  12. Ok, i have installed Dazzle 3 (brand new!!) on a Windows Vista laptop (3rd one (the head and deputy have one each) Once i have selected the correct key stage on the launcher dazzle begins to load and then Vista tells me that Dazzle has stopped responding and the only option is to close otherwise it refuses to do anything. Is there anyway to fix this (such as closing/disabling the prompt window thing??) Thanks
  13. Because the ICT Co-ordinator decided to tell their pupils our admin password, we have had to change it. Now Sophos will not work - is there anyway to change the password that Sophos uses? At the moment it looks like we have to uninstall sophos and re-install it on all the computers because no deployment software works in this school!!!
  14. Ok, this makes me sound thick - but how do i put disk quota's on users home folders????
  15. Hi, Just a quick poll - which server would you choose if you were in a primary school with about 250 kids, 75 staff, SIMS admin network. 15 computers in 1 ICT Suite, 30 Curriculum Laptops, 25 staff laptops?
  16. We have just had a HP Colour Laserjet 2550l forced upon us from the Reception Staff . We had to exchange this with a brand new HP Officejet 6310 All-In-One. We have not yet used the laser - but we know that it is very noisy. Any one got one? What do you think of it?
  17. They don't have individual printers - just 1 in the staffroom, 1 in our office, 1 in the ICT Suite, and then the head + deputies (and several in Admin) We don't mind them printing large things in the staffroom. But our office and the ICT Suite cost a lot of money to run. I have seen staff printing things because "they look nice". We also have them printing personal stuff and tonnes of photos that are never seen again. @localzuk: If you are talking about a Linux server we have no hardware that can cope with being a server. We only have an apps and a DC, both with W2003.
  18. Why is it that certain staff always think that they come first. Just the other week me and the NM were asked to join a meeting with NEC computers 1/2 an hour before we were supposed to take the laptop trolleys (SIGH) to a teacher. We realised that the meeting might overlap so we might not be able to take the laptops to the class. We informed the teacher that there might be a chance and that we would still take the laptops to here class before we went to the meeting. SHE WENT CRAZY!! She told us that she should be a priority over anything else because her lesson was to be observed by the head so everything had to run smoothly! Never mind the fact that if we missed this meeting then someone travelling all the way from Birmingham to Luton just to talk to us would be sitting in a room by himself - the teacher was the priority. In the end we just told the teacher where to stick it (somewhere painful!) and went to the meeting. We did finish the meeting in time to help the teacher. We have also stood in the ICT Suite for 40 mins waiting for a class to arrive - they never did. When we asked the teacher where she had got to, she just laughed. Why the hell didn't she ring us or senda pupil to say they weren't coming??????? Any of you have this problem? What can we do. This is most of the teachers this is happening to. We have training this Thursday for the Luton VLP. God knows what the school will be like on the Friday.
  19. I have been given the job of teaching some of the lessons - i am a 16 year old ICT Teckie at a primary school WHAT CONTROL HAVE I GOT OVER THE KIDS!!!!!!!! I no absolutely nothing about the planning, i just go with it!
  20. Why is it that staff think that they can print 50,000 copies of things out of a tiny little inkjet printer. I get through about 2 ink cartridges a year at home. At school i have an identical printer but get through 2 cartridges a month! Staff have no thought about our budget. We get £2,000 a year to spend on ink. We have worked out this means that we can buy ink for every printer in the school twice. So far we have purchased at least 6 black cartridges for one printer! We recently set-up a networked colour laser in the staffroom that will print high quality documents - will staff use it? NO!. What do you do to make staff stop printing? We would like to get some printer limit software, but this will cost too much and we have no budget left! We have no repographics department - the TA's are supposed to do everything (they just sit around all day moaning).
  21. Anyone got 1????? I don't mean the stupid little holes that we are shoved in - has anyone got a proper 1?? Anyone have any suggestions on how me and my manager can even get a desk in ours? We have to work on computers stacked on a load of paper boxes.
  22. AAAHHH - I hate Fizzy's First Numbers. The program music and annoying little person is so annoying
  23. Does anyone know a way to make Literacy Box for Reception to obtain group lists/individual names from the server? We have done the network install on the computers but you have to input the names on every computer. Anyone got any ideas/solutions??
  24. Here's my comment: AAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHH! Pretty much sums it up!
  25. The only problem with setting the timer is that the staff don't move rooms during the day. (we are a primary school) Also staff often go over the lesson time or they use the projector for more than 1 lesson in a row. So if the projector switches off they have to wait about 10 minutes for the projector to allow itself to switch back on. Plus our lunch break is 1 hour, so if the timer is set to this the projector will switch off as they are on the way back to the classroom
