Sorry, I had both selected - should have said. If I remove "Staff > Professional > View (Own)", it does remove the qualification data, however it also removes the "Professional" tab entirely (which is where CPD is displayed). I don't have a (sufficiently low-privileged in SIMS) real person to test with yet, so I don't know whether that means you need both settings enabled to see the CPD area or not. -- Just spotted your edit. We don't want the ability to edit the info, just view what's there.
-
Am I right in thinking that the "View (Own)" permission in SIMS provides read-only access to things about you (the employee linked to the user account) in the context of staff users? We're trying to give staff read-only access to their CPD record in SIMS and if I assign the permission: Staff > Professional > View (Own) to my test user, they can view qualification data on all staff. So either I'm misunderstanding what the permission is supposed to do, or it's broken.

If the VM (let's say base OS / antivirus / backup agents etc) plays up, that's on us to solve. Like any other service we depend on we make sure it's reliable and has known-good tested backups, with alerting to any problems via network monitoring. Given no-one uses it from ~14:30 > 08:00, there's ample service windows for any necessary maintenance. If the vendor software (say Parentpay sync software or LiveRegister software) plays up or their database has problems, that's on them to solve. The (unacceptable IMO) alternative is a desktop PC with no redundancy (power supply/disks) sat in a kitchen environement.
-
The LiveRegister backend was installed onto a VM (services running from desktop PC hardware is forbidden). The catering manager already had a laptop and the Live Register admin software (menus, reporting etc) was installed onto that. Live Register supplied three tills, (2 normal, 1 tablet) and handled the migration from Cunninghams and MIS integration. We had to do a bit of sanity-checking of the data (visitor accounts, for example) before the migration. We re-registered ~600-700 people one morning with a Live Register person onsite for the registration and go-live. The Cunninghams reval unit was removed and not replaced - balance top-ups come in via ParentPay for the most part. After nearly 12 months, no-one's suggested reinstating it.
-
We deployed Live Register at one of our schools last summer and we (Finance/Catering/IT) are very happy with it - it's what we'd deploy at our other schools. They won against NRS and Cunninghams (incumbent) in the shortlist

While the map is useful, encouraging people (who're mostly used to swimming pools without strong currents and underwater obstacles) to enter rivers for swimming seems like it will have a high attrition rate.

Yup. Once installed, SIMS just needs the latest update to be current.

My ideal is something like this: Person begins writing an email with more than 10* external** recipients in the "To:" field OWA shows a tooltip bar across the top of the composition window with "Check if you should be using BCC" in a non-annoying way. Similar to the configurable mail tips. Person adjusts to BCC if necessary *or another number unlikely to trigger false positives **not a domain registered to the Office 365 tenancy. ....but I'm not convinced it's doable in the OWA client.

It's my understanding that Y10 laptops are owned by school, to be returned to school. For values of Lincolnshire, we've (MAT) been told that the social care laptops are owned by the individual school and also stay with the school if a student leaves (for distribution to the next student who needs it). I have pointed out that this doesn't exactly help any Y6 students over the summer who aren't staying within the same MAT and isn't really in the spirit of the scheme.
-
It's also likely that the Password.bin file for the social care laptops will also work on the Y10 laptops. (For values of HP 250 series supplied by XMA).

[bromcom] Thinking of pushing the from SIMs. Need to convince SLT
pete replied to Jaan's topic in MIS Systems
Yup. Browser-based access from anywhere is lovely, but it means multi-factor auth needs to be turned on for everyone. If you've got a brochure / technical guide about the security side of Bromcom, I'd be interested. -
[bromcom] Thinking of pushing the from SIMs. Need to convince SLT

Does Bromcom supply MFA as part of the standard package? -
We (Trust) have 4 MIS (2 SIMS, 2 Integris) plus various finance systems that lag behind the sources of truth (MIS) when it comes to staff records. Has anyone found a product similar to SIMS Parent App that allows staff to login and submit changes to their personal details (address, phone, email, car registration, next-of-kin etc) for review by HR? edit: Perhaps a simpler question: How is your MAT ensuring the personal data of staff is being updated in a timely manner in school MIS and trust-wide systems (payroll etc) without creating an undue burden on admin or finance staff?

I trust Google to be mercenary with information they receive and that makes them stable and predictable. They're unlikely to lose it due to incompetence, or use it for actively malicious purposes because doing so would harm their profits. Compared to a government led by a feckless serial liar who changes policy based on whatever he thinks might keep his party supported by Daily Mail readers, Google is the sensible choice.
-
How long has it taken between making the "hey, can we have the local admin and BIOS passwords" request and receiving the information, on average?

Updated progress info on the scheme: https://assets.publishing.service.gov.uk/government/uploads/system/uploads/attachment_data/file/892510/Devices_and_4G_wireless_routers_data_ad_hoc_stats.pdf of note is this on the top of page 3: which may explain why ownership of social care device differs depending on whether you're in an academy trust or not.
-
I think individual councils/LAs are making it up as they go along in the absence of decent government guidance / communication. Here (Lincolnshire), schools/Trusts are asked to sign a form making it very clear that the device is the property and responsibility of the school and that no-one should ask the council for anything in relation to the laptops post-delivery.
-
Does anyone know if councils are proactively sending laptops to eligible looked-after-children that they're responsible for when the children currently live in another council's area?
-
Social care laptops (what should be the first batch) must be assigned to specific named students. Y10 laptops (second batch) are assigned to Y10 students without access to a device at home. MAT/School determines who's in greatest need (since you're unlikely to be allocated enough laptops to cover demand).

DNS records/zone for verification have to be publicly available to respond to requests. Otherwise any herbert could add Google.com to internal DNS and get a Let's Encrypt cert for Google.com. If the current host of your external DNS records supports it, you can script DNS verification to automatically create records, query them, issue the cert and then remove the records. Cloudflare example: https://www.win-acme.com/reference/plugins/validation/dns/cloudflare

I suspect it's tricky to migrate a VLE that syncs data with an on-premises MIS to another cloud-based MIS and ensure nothing breaks and no data is lost (from an end-user perspective it should look the same). You're likely paying the day rate +markup for a senior support person who's done it before, rather than a L1/L2 tech.
-
They said they were revising that to 6GB/month a few thread pages ago. Depends if yours had already been provisioned at that point, but I'd hope they'd bump limits retroactively too.
-
In Lincolnshire we've just had the email about social care laptops being delivered to schools in the next 2-3 weeks.

All Systems Red: The Murderbot Diaries, by Martha Wells. "I could have become a mass murderer after I hacked my governor module, but then I realized I could access the combined entertainment channels carried on the company satellites. It has been well over 35,000 hours or so since then, with still not much murdering, but probably, I don't know, a little under 35,000 hours of movies, serials, books, plays, and music consumed. As a heartless killing machine, I was a terrible failure."
