Smoothwall + iOS14 - Apps not loading

Worked your way through this for SW settings? https://support.apple.com/en-gb/HT210060 -
We do. Unfortunately (given the use of java keystores for the cert), automating the renewal is something of a faff and I haven't got that sorted yet. Mobiliity Print (on the other hand) doesn't use Java keystores and it's simply a case of replacing the cert & key in the filesystem and restarting the service. LE doesn't need the server to be externally accessible if you use DNS to verify the cert - you just need to be able to create a "printserver.int.yourdomain.whatever" record in DNS, obtain the cert, then remove the record. Cloudflare or another DNS provider that allows API access makes that part easy at least.

Were it not for the £50 limit, I'd say Dobsonian reflector telescope (for which I blame Dara O'Briain's Twitter for retweeting this: https://www.meteorwatch.org/beginners-telescopes-best-telescope-guide-and-review/) Olight do some fairly nice torches for around the £50 limit, I can recommend this: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Olight-Flashlight-Compact-Rechargeable-Side-Switch/dp/B07G4SGT7Q

Recovering Apple VPP/School login that MSP -2 put 2FA on
pete replied to pete's topic in Mobile Devices & Tablets
So, fingers crossed it appears if you have the original enrollment ID and can present a valid headteacher, chances are good you can get it unlocked. (The enrollment ID is because searching for school name or associated Apple ID on their system can be flaky, at least when I called). -
I know this is a fairly niche combination, but has anyone seen this behaviour? Office 365-linked OneDrive account using MFA Mac running Catalina OneDrive not configured to run at login Super-flaky about remembering credentials and OneDrive folder location. No obvious whining in Office 365/Azure logs about auth problems Permissions on the folder it's trying to sync to are correct (OneDrive processes have permissions) Isn't restricted to specific OneDrive client versions. Unrelated to the state of the optional "Don't ask me about MFA for 30 days" checkbox Intermittently, but frequently enough to be annoying, when launched OneDrive appears to have lost most (everything but email address used) or all config or awareness of such or where the local OneDrive folder is stored. When run through setup again (provide credentials / MFA token, re-point to correct folder and let it grind through reconciling local and cloud versions) it does function. I'm at 33/33/33 between "OneDrive devs did a terrible job with the macOS version and MFA", "something in Office 300 is falling over again" and "Catalina should be prompting for some input here, but it's not doing so".

Yeah, on with that now while waiting on a response from the MSP. Enterprise team have terrible hold music (and no option for silence). -
Recovering Apple VPP/School login that MSP -2 put 2FA on
pete replied to pete's topic in Mobile Devices & Tablets
It's a VPP account with two-step authentication enabled. Any logins to appleid.apple.com (or recovery pages for the same) require a trusted device, access to the phone number used to setup two-step authentication or the recovery key. We have none of those things at present. -
We suspect a previous MSP for a school we've taken over turned on SMS-based 2FA on the Apple VPP / Apple School Manager account. We have the credentials, but only the last two digits of the number associated. Last MSP says it's not their tech's phone and no-one at the school has a number ending in those digits so we're chasing second-to-last MSP. If I don't get anywhere via the MSP, has anyone had success in convincing Apple to let you back into an account (we have user credentials and can prove ownership of associated devices) without knowing the Recovery Key?

OK, getting flashbacks to 2007. We've also had this from a few parents. Our general position is: Schoolname has yet to see evidence linking use of Wireless networks to ill health. What Schoolname has found is that Wireless networks provide opportunities to use ICT in ways (and areas) where it would otherwise be absent. Schoolname considers student safety as our most important responsibility and will review our position should a credible, repeatable peer-reviewed study indicate a causal link between WiFi use and health problems. Not to mention the whole "Schoolname would struggle to justify spending thousands running copper ethernet to the auditors without any evidence it was necessary to do so". Previous discussions: http://www.edugeek.net/forums/wireless-networks/93616-parent-concerns-about-wifi-safety.html Long discussion about the 2007 Panorama debacle: http://www.edugeek.net/forums/wireless-networks/8528-panorama-s-wireless-schools-program-8-30-tonight.html

Yup, we ran Schoolcloud's system with the video chat add-on as a 30-day trial for a Y11 Parent's Evening at one of our schools. Based on that we purchased a years subscription. Their documentation was a little lacking when we began the trial (TLDR: you'll need to amend firewall rules and I recommend setting up several test parent evenings using Teacher-Parents as guinea pigs) but overall it's a pretty good system that went down well with staff and parents. The office are also pretty happy at reduced faffing / paperwork involved.

Ours went ahead without issue. Though the site seemed rather laggy at ~08:50 this morning.

Playing the BG3 early access at the moment and may have found a use for all the basilisk oil I've collected.

Log into the site where you confirmed (or disputed) the laptop allocation and the type you've requested. You should see the allocation against each school has declined significantly: https://get-help-with-tech.education.gov.uk/sign-in

https://www.jcq.org.uk/wp-content/uploads/2020/10/ICE_20-21_FINAL.pdf Page 30, 14.25 H does have "h) must not be connected to an intranet or any other means of communication" We've (Exams Officer and I) always interpreted that as a restriction on communication (data in/out), not printing or the ability to use a redirected save location to prevent hardware failure leading to a loss of work. edit: and our Exams Officer re-explained that during our recent audit (via Zoom tour of the secure cupboard) and the inspector was happy with the arrangements.

Parent's Evening Software? What're you using that works well?
pete replied to pete's topic in How do you do....it?
So follow-up after we did a live parents evening with Schoolcloud's Parents Evening System with the Video Appointments add-on last night: Overwhelmingly positive response from staff (the science dept were described as "disturbingly happy" today) and apart from a couple of bandwidth issues/microphone issues at the parent end it went well. Parent responses so far also overwhelmingly positive. We had roughly half the staff doing appointments at home and the other half in school. I was around keeping an eye on them in school but only really had to hand-hold a few people in the early stages. There were a handful of issues where the website threw up a "your firewall / filter is blocking stuff" message for a couple of people in-school and at home about 90 minutes in, which I think is a red herring (in-school it's explicitly allowed, out-of-school the people involved aren't technical enough to have anything beyond a BT HomeHub as their gateway). I'm waiting on screenshots from staff to feed back to Schoolcloud. -
I'd also like the workstation test link info if possible please. We're running these and the info from Cambridge is lacking (if I'm being polite) and their "go look on the vendor KB" doesn't fill me with any confidence once I've looked at said KB.

^ Plus there's the "remember this computer for X days" (after a successful sign-in) option, so it's not particularly troublesome unless they switch device a lot.
-
Yup, seeing a similar thing here for Outlook connected to Office 365 and for people using OWA there's noticable lag between typing and text appearing and accompanying high cpu use by the browser. I wasn't sure if the lag symptoms were down to a browser update (local Firefox and Chrome both had a version update this week).

Possibly-related query... Say an MDM updates (the MDM software) from 8.2 > 8.4 and a setting that was present in 8.2 is no longer available in 8.4. How is that handled in the generated profile the iOS device has downloaded? Does it get removed from the local copy of the profile when it's automatically refreshed (as part of usual checking in), or do the orphaned settings stay on the local device (because the MDM is no longer managing them)?

Hadn't spotted that. It has just launched though and it looks like they're still trying to work out Year 2 costs.

Are you on an EMBC connection? If so, how's the voice quality?
