  1. Have you got SSO (Enable single sign on) ticked in AAD Connect? If a pupil visits https://outlook.office.com/owa/school.region.sch.uk (adjust for your domain) does it work or do you get a better error? As noted above, what do pupils do differently from staff when accessing Office 365?
  2. ^ And turn on dedupe for the data volume. And configure the IIS application pool settings for WSUS so it doesn't fall over so much. Reference here: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/4490414/windows-server-update-services-best-practices
  3. Not for this, but I do use it to take Microsoft Forms input and send a formatted email. Looking into it, I might be able to use the Conversation Id field to determine "same thread", I just need to work out the logic.
  4. Has anyone got/written/found an example of an O365 transport rule that that does the following? A department would like a "Hey, we got your email, here's the SLA and escalation path for emergencies" response sent when their shared mailbox receives an email. But because there's back and forth conversations in that mailbox, it should only reply once per email thread. [email protected] emails dept@schoolname with a subject line of "Widget X" O365 sends a "thanks, we got your message" reply to [email protected] subsequent emails between [email protected] and dept@schoolname don't generate auto-responses provided it's the same email thread. If [email protected] emails on a different topic (Widget Z), an auto-response is sent. (And yes, they should use a ticketing system if they want this functionality)
  5. Can this detect an existing OSD setup? Or is it start from scratch?
  6. I've only done this with the original Chromecasts, but.... Go here: https://developers.google.com/cast/docs/registration#RegisterApp and have a read. I know a few museums are using the method above to display specific exhibit info via Chromecasts and I've done it at home for a status screen.
  7. We use Castlemount for custom lanyards (and ID Badges) and they've been decent over the years. https://www.castlemount.co.uk/id-card-accessories/lanyards/ I've no idea on pricing (finance handle lanyards and ID badge ordering, I just make sure they've specced a card that works with Paxton) beyond finance are happy enough not to have shopped around.
  8. CTF Student Basic Details 1902-3890646 https://myaccount.capita-cs.co.uk/changerequests/ChangeRequest/a604a98e-e02a-e911-a88f-000d3ab17677 This would make it optional to import any phones and email addresses linked under Student Basic Details when doing a CTF report. Reasoning: The data is usually outdated or low quality (no area code, for example) and we seek fresh data from parents as part of the induction process.
  9. We need to update the school brochure and the company that did the design work last time round no longer exists, so I'm after recommendations. Who have you used that you / your headteacher would recommend? I'm interested in a good end product, patience and a helpful attitude. The job spec will include coming onsite to take photos.
  10. We had this for one person who has a habit of opening a word document via a mapped drive, wandering off for 30-90 minutes and the desktop goes to sleep. Test if it happens using a UNC path to open the document (\\server\share\folder\whatever.docx) vs a mapped drive (H:\folder\whatever.docx). Also check the difference between "immediately start typing / clicking save" vs "wait 30 seconds, then do it".
  11. Bumping the thread because we've got some Activboards that can't be upgraded to support the new pens and my supply is running low. I'm after surplus working ActivPen 3's (straight dark grey ones with the orange band). There's none in the channel that I can find and slim pickings on ebay. Has anyone got some they're willing to sell?
  12. Given many of the better ones are bluetooth-capable, there is scope for misuse. There's also massive scope for "school picks on deaf kids, what a bunch of XXXXs" headlines in the local or national rags, so a sensible school would just move any collected phones or smartwatches out of bluetooth range or power them off before handing them in.
  13. We create a "Shares" folder at the drive root, break inheritance and remove the local user permissions. Subsequent shares created within that folder inherit permissions from the "Shares" folder, not the drive.
  14. LibreNMS is pretty simple to configure and use. It's a fork of Observium.
  15. We have a new chest-high AV cabinet in a public/open area that comes supplied with the usual "ten seconds with a hairpin" terrible locks you find on most network cabinets. I'd like to replace the locks with something a bit more robust and (if they turn out to be decent), re-key some of our other cabinets. Has anyone got a recommendation for a lock brand or supplier they've used recently?
  16. "I am the person who tells the school to continue to give you money, can you escalate me to someone who can confirm that to Veeam's satisfaction and get the license administrator changed?"
  17. Do they play nicely with non-Windows laptops? I'm aware the Startech dock doesn't officially support anything other than Windows, but Amazon reviews imply it works.
  18. Is anyone using an USB-C to ethernet/USB/HDMI hub with pass-through power that plays nicely when the laptop is disconnected? I've spotted a few threads on Reddit (such as ) that implies many are likely to lead to error-disabled ports because the ethernet port stays "live" due to the pass-through power when the laptop is disconnected.
  19. You can buy directly from Duo or use a third-party token. Eventually the battery dies - it's guaranteed for 2 years and will probably be good for 3-5yrs. Scroll down to Security Token FAQ: https://duo.com/product/trusted-users/two-factor-authentication/authentication-methods/security-tokens It's worth emailing them to ask about compatibility - they're pretty responseive.
  20. Look at Duo (https://duo.com/) and try it out. It's free for less than 10 users, so you can play with it for as long as you like. We use it with soft tokens on phones, but it also supports hardware tokens.
  21. We use Option C combined with MFA via Duo Mobile.
  22. Dafont gives the option to specify the copyright requirements when searching: https://www.dafont.com/new.php?text=Non-commercial&l[]=10&l[]=1 Educate the kids, as others have suggested? A school isn't a person, it's an organisation. The use isn't private or personal - it's to be used in assessed work for which the student will gain a qualification and the school gets funding for that student..
  23. Specifically bad experiences because every comment I've seen on here has been singing their praises to one degree or another. So does Live Register do anything silly? Sub-optimal? Downright aggravating? Either as a product or a company? (they have presented to us, we were impressed, this is due diligence)
  24. We try to avoid it so we're not inflicting spam that the previous person may have signed up for on the new person. The old address is tagged onto the leaver's line manager for 3-6 months until all the useful things have been redirected.
  25. We're experiencing high latency to Sage 200 today (12-07-19) whenever data is written, but other services look normal, including things sensitive to latency. Sage say it's not them, which I'm taking under consideration but they've been wrong before. Is anyone else seeing this?
