Why dont you make the change yourself over a GPO rarther than letting the kids mess with the settings?

Hi. Im trying to implement BGInfo as a startup item for certain user groups, not so those users can access it, but just so it shows some information on their desktops, then when they log off, it goes back to normal. Now, ive written a bat file for the program that has the variables in it that i need: P:\BGInfo\Bginfo.exe P:\BGInfo\config.bgi /timer:0 /NOLICPROMPT With P: being a hidden drive thats available to all users. Ive added it to the login scripts for the user group i want it to apply to, but it doesnt want to apply. It just displays the normal background for that user group instead? Ideas? All fixed! Unfortunatelly ive had to scrap the idea for the time being. . Theres LOADS of website i'd have to enter into the trusted list, and it also brings up a box to allow/disallow access on each entry to the page. Based on the massive amount of work there is, ive got the two policys set to disabled. With the file filtering from R2, they cant save anything nasty to the network itself. But MIME based filtering im gonna have to shelve till i get the ISA up and running again. So until then, the kids can technically download what they want to their sticks.

Fixed the problem rooms, but again, for staff only. The pupil accounts still have the problem. . Ideas?

This is really getting on my wick now. A computer im using for testing, works as intended for staff users, with them only able to download from sites in the trusted list. But pupils still cant download. . Plus, on top of that, in the rooms which have custom GPOs as they are completely different systems/software setups, neither work! Any ideas?

Ive found the setting, its here: administrative templates\windows components\internet explorer\security features\restrict file downloads. Problem is, that i cant see it enabled in any of my GPOs? Ideas? Ive got the trusted sites set to the only sites i want downloads to be from, and things like intranet/trusted set to allow, and the internet/restricted set to disallow. That coupled with file restrictions on their storage areas will make them downloading what they shouldnt do pretty bullet proof im thinking.

Hi. AGES ago i enabled a setting that prevented people from downloading things from the internet. Last friday i decided to change it so people could download from our VLE, AQA & Edexcel. Problem is that on some machines the previously set GPO still stops them. But for the life of me, i cant find where that setting is!? lol. Ideas?

Do you have the XML config file for your setup? Asuming yours is set to completly silent/invisible from the user? Thanks.

This is annoying me. I was told prior to purchase the the AV business edition did spyware and AV protection. Now their tech support says it doesnt? Plus, whats the difference between startup scanner on the kernel config tree, file system scan and computer scan? This is really winding me up. Not the best way to start the week. All i want is to set it up so its completely silent to the user! . They've given me a McAfee file called MCPR which is a tool to uninstall our McAfee software. Does anyone know any command line switches for it to make the uninstallation silent? And is there a guide anywhere to what every configuration does?

Now ive just got to work out how this NOD thing works. 3 parts to it, the AV, remote client and server. The latter of which installs but has no icons? And the remote client doesnt detect any of our clients?

Hi. Ive managed to aquire a D510 for my own usage. Seeing as its the first laptop in a while ive seen in a while with a serial port, im thinking of turning it into my diagnostic machine for the network. I'll be creating Hyperterminal & IE shortcuts on the desktop for all the printers, switches, APs, Cameras. And installing Wireshark. I also plan to have it dual boot Ubuntu as well. What other Windows and/or Linux apps should i wack on there? Thanks in advance all. .

Im getting the kids doing it more and more lately. Luckily, the first time they did it about 4-6 months ago, i enabled spanning tree, so now when it happens, only half the network goes down, and the other half just goes slow. Its still very annoying though.

Im not sure. I can access normal Pop gmail though. Im not bothered too much about the iTunes store, but i'd like to get the mail working.

Hi. Ive been trying to get my new 32Gb Touch working with the Wifi i have here. Ive managed to get the internet working on it, as i just put in the wifi connection specific proxy settings onto it (why doesnt windows have this feature?), but i cant access my mail (google imap) or the iTunes store. Ideas? Thank in advance all. .

Old thread i know, but ive been using my touch with my Vista64 machine for a few days now, and it works flawlessly. Touch wood. (pun not intended.)

With the local DNS being the DC? Yes, as thats whats set on the DC. I did have to change the DNS forwarders earlyier on the DC for the previously mentioned reason, but i changed it back. Touch wood, it appears to be working now. We'll soon see come tomorrow, as thats when everything is guaranteed a restart.

They use DHCP for the IPs. I do have some on reservations, and our WiFi on manual IPs though.

Not sure how you mean on the first. And the second one no, the DC/DNS server has allways had its IP the same.

How do i check the name space. The error you listed is very reminicient of the problem im having here.
