  1. Right, after some googling, for a MSCE, its basically: 6 core units. 1 elective. Correct? And those 7 units can be chosen by myself i asume?
  2. Thanks. There the once ive seen, but i was wondering if there were more than Lancaster University that did them. Plus, its a little confusing what cources/books/whatnot i need for a MSCE, what with all these number based code words that are thrown around! .
  3. I can pretty much guarantee that wont happen with the 8Gb model. Its reasons like that Nokia have annoyed me with their naming. The 8gb N95 is tarred with the same brush as the original.
  4. i did do a search, couldnt find nout. but im rubbish at searching. What companies do the exams then?
  5. Hi. I would like to do an MSCE. And in light of our LEA not doing MSCE cources, it looks like im gonna have to source somewhere myself. . As i understand it, i have two options: - Train off site then take exam. - Train onsite then take exam. My question is, where do i get information on these two options? As the place i have looked at, LearningTree, seems extremely expensive. Thanks in advance all. .
  6. 281 computers total. 4 servers. Just me. Hopefully this year that'll increase to: 300 computers 9 servers. Still just me. wheres the becta thing that states the techy to computer ratio, for future reference? . Thanks. .
  7. The normal N95 is rubbish in every respect. The N95-8Gb is an entirely different kettle of fish. It shouldnt even be called a N95 at all in my opinion: - Different casing. more resistant to damage. - bigger screen - better battery - more ram - more upto date OS. Ive had mine since early december. And its been flawless for me. I get about a weeks worth of battery out of it under medium/heavy usage and i never get software faults with it. Touch wood....
  8. What school are you from if you dont mind me asking? Ive been asked to get several examples of NOD32 usage/recommendations before we buy it for some reason? .
  9. Hmm. Interesting. Seems that NOD32 offers the 50% education discount as well. Its not as cheap per machine as AVG, and is more expensive than our LEAs McAfee offer, but is still cheaper than our current McAfee deal. Hmm. How is NOD32 rolled out over the network? The version ive been quoted for is NOD32 for Windows. Thanks.
  10. Ive heard good things about AVG Network edition off a few other local schools? I'd move to NOD32, but its very expensive. IIRC, more so than McAfee.
  11. Well our LEAs special McAfee offer was £4 cheaper than going through a normal reseller. AVGs AV/Spy/FW bundle is cheaper still! They better go for it, otherwise i wont be a happy bunny.
  12. Hi. At the moment we pay for McAfee AV & McAfee Spyware for our machines. I want to change to AVG AV as its cheaper, by far, per machine. Do we need the spyware thing though? I cant see it installed on any machine here, and the two labs with new systems in, that ive setup, dont have it on, yet work fine. So do we really need it? Thoughts? Thanks in advance all. .
  13. On our images i just have: XP SP2 All windows updates Ogg codec. ffsshow. Ac3 filter. Currently we have any apps that cant be MSI'd or on a shared drive in them as well, but in future, they're going. Im using the excuse 'for future compatibility'. lol.
  14. This is a known problem if you have Nokia PC Suite installed as well. If you have that installed, might be worth looking into? .
  15. We use login scripts here also, with a large kix script specifying mappings based on user group. Apart from when a computer doesnt have a network connection, it gets the mapping 99% of the time..
  16. Unfortunatelly, our LEA wont give us a grant number. The only alternative option to the web based installation is to download a *.exe file, thats about 2-3Mb in size that does the install as well. I suppose i could blast that out with a startup script or something of that ilk, but im still unsure. Its either save £500 and go for the severely limited option of this deal from our LEA. Or dont save £500 and go for the fully fledged version. Thoughts?
  17. Found it. It works beautifully. . Thanks for all the help everyone. .
  18. In the GPO? I cant recall a setting like that, where is it located? As at the moment, im just trawling through a new GPO, disabling practically everything.
  19. Aint working. In program file name i have: iexplore.exe And in start in i have: %systemdrive%\program files\internet explorer\
  20. On my NAS, if i set the enviroment to an app, it would load that app only on login for that user. I want to do the same for the kiosk machine. Ive set it in a GP/OU that has the proxies wrong, so all it can access is the internal servers. With the home page set at http://server/menu, that gives the kiosk machine two hyperlinks, one goes to server/reset and the other to server/booking. The booking one still requires one further login. All that i need to do is set it so only IE comes up when this kiosk username logs in. But what i did on the NAS isnt working. So im asuming i have to use some sort of generic \program files\etc path?
  21. Am i missing something here? Setting the enviorment to iexplore.exe & c:\program files\internet explorer\ should only start internet explorer and nothing else on login should it not? At least it does on my NAS for my iTunes server...?
  22. Fair enough. Im just trying to setup a webpage in IIS that'll act as a menu, one pointing to the SSPR reset, and another to the room booking system. But for the life of me i cant get it working. My plan is to have a kiosk user, with its only startup app being IE, pointed at that menu page.
  23. I used the delegate wizard to give access to changing & reset passwords, along with account read info to all 3 SSPR objects. Still doesnt let it through. Very odd. For the time being, ive set it to an account operator and given it a very very long password. I take it that cred.ini cant be accessed by anyone in its default state? Thanks.
  24. Which delegation options do i need to set, just to double check what im doing?
  25. Hmm. The lowest its letting me give is account operator. Which is too high for my liking. Ive delegated control out to the SSPR objects for the pupil OUs. Still no luck. Odd really, as the staff group can do pupil passwords, but SSPR wont allow with the login set to Staff. Ideas?
