The v9/v10 to 10.1/10d upgrade is free, and painless to do. I'd recommend doing it myself. I had the same problem a week or so back with SQL2005.

Little known facts about Frog is that it can also function as a proxy server, a CD server & as a VPN concentrator. Although the latter costs (alot). The CD server function is aparentely hidden away very well and still beta, and the proxy, i must say works quite nicely. Unfortunatelly, anything other than website rules needs a call to frog to fix.

How do i find out if a *.exe has silent/quiet install commands?

OK, im lost. All i want to do is turn existing install files or an installed program, into a MSI file for deployment. I was under the impression that the proceadure was fresh install->scan system with MSI maker->install app->configure app->scan system again->MSI made. But with authoring, repackaging, author from scratch, ect; im completely lost! lol So what is it that i need?

Thats similar to what our office prints. I think i'll look into the 4350... Correct, but i have said that we've very quickly used up a 25k drum unit on the existing printer. Monthy usage isnt something we can 'count' on our admin system, as theres nothing in place to count it. Loads of printers. Just not very many on the admin system. Plus, its a printer for arguably the most used printer in the entire school.

Is the 4350 the next one up from that do you know? What sort of throughput do you find it has, out of curiosity? (how many pages between toners, drums, ect;). The best NAS, bar none, is the LaCie rankmounted ones. They are mentally priced at a mere £350 for Tb model. They have gigabit. And best of all: They are just Via Epia's inside! I have two of them here that ive modified and they both perform duties far beyond the stock embedded XP OS it has. HIGHLY recommended. .

Basically, its not about clock speed anymore. Its about how many things can be done per clock cycle. And at the moment, Intel has the edge with their Core range, in all its variations. If your running apps that are very memory intensive and/or latency bound, then i'd say plump for the AMD 64's. The onchip memory controller is significantely faster for latency limited situations.

Hi. Can anyone recommend a high capacity network mono laser printer? We've been struggling for a while now with high capacity printing. First we replaced the existing HP 1320n with a Brother HL-5270DN. Which while more economical on the toner, the drums worn out already (25k capacity). So we're looking for another printer, upto £1000 in price, thats got a drum life of at least 50k. Preferably 75k+ Ideas? Thanks in advance all. .

For the remote log on/log off/power on/power off/ect; functions i highly recommend NetSupport Schools. We use it here, and although its mainly a teaching app, i find it invaluable myself, as i can ban internet sites through it faster than the kids can find them.

Im in a similar situation to the OP. We're planning a server upgrade here, im unsure on a few things tbh. Im planning on, for the moment: 2x quad/4Gb/2x73Gb Domain Controllers. Providing redundancy for AD/DNS/DHCP/ect; 1x quad/2Gb/2Tb RAID5 SAS Fileserver. To store home/profiles on. 1x quad/2Gb/4Tb RAID5 SATA Fileserver. To backup the file server and DCs. 1x old server to function as print, WSUS & App Deployment Server. 1x old server to function as SQL server for Sims.net 1x old server to function as ISA. 2x old modified NAS as spare Tb storage. Although im a little unsure on the specs. I definatelly want the new servers to be quad cores, overkill, yes. But im thinking for future usage and potentially VM usage. Memory, again, prehaps overkill on the DCs, but more the merrier i say. Storage wise im unsure. Our current curric server has about 600Gb of storage, of which 250ish is free. Add to that about 100Gb of admin stuff, that makes 450Gb of actual data over our two networks. So on the main fileserver, we could probably get away with just the Tb of space on it. Meaning more backups could be stored on the larger backup fileserver. Im unsure though. Thoughts?

Are there any all in one solutions you can suggest? Filemon/Regmon/Orca are just editors, WIWW appears to be very basic and doesnt seem to work for me and Winstall LE costs. I dont have the Win2K disks to hand to get the free version either. Are there any good commerical products that are reccomended for the job? Thanks. .

Both have their uses. I personally think Opera is the better 'out of the box' browser. With many of its features requiring alot of plugins to do the same in Firefox. I personally use Opera at home for my general browsing. But i have FireFox installed as well. But thats because i use Firefox at work, and along with the google browser sync, i can view the same pages/bookmarks/passwords/whatnot at home and at work. Which is amazingly handy. .

Do the freeware linux solutions support user logging? Or just general logging? We used an ISA for a bit, but after problems with it, we changed to using our VLE as the proxy. Which works reasonably well. Wouldnt mind going back to a solution that i can completely admin myself though.

Goto XDA Developer and ask around there. There is a registry on WM based devices, and the restore area can be customised to only install certain apps. Im fairly certain you can do some locking down of the device at the very least. .
