Where else are Smoothwall based, apart from Southhampton & Leeds? If anywhere?
-
Nope, no regions are overlapping. I'll have to try that... Anyway, the most annoying problem is that the schedule doesnt work as intended. For example, i have our main screen set to use 'template1' which works fine. Our test screen is set to use 'template2', but doesnt use it, it still displays 'template1'. And the schedules are quite clearly seperate and no broadcasting is going on either!

Bag of... tbh Weve had it installed for months now, took me hours to get it to display the template i want it to. And now i want to change the content, its not only NOT doing what its told, but its displaying things all over the place. Im seriousy considering getting rid of it if i cant get it working in a way thats easy for the office staff by the end of today.

Wouldnt mind knowing this as well. We're in the testing phase for our Win7 deployment during summer, and a lack of LanView, be it 3 or 4, on 64bit installs would be a big problem.

3.30Gb here. Our Sims server also runs stuff like the Tucasi SCO software, FMS, FrogExtractor. So whilst removing the Database from it will reduce its workload quite significantely, it'll still be doing other tasks. Im hoping that moving the database speeds sims up somewhat, as the dedicated SQL server has far more memory and resources to play with.
-
Im not moving the entire sims server though. JUST the database. Been running of 2008 for almost 2 years now....do you mean SQL 2008?
-
Just had a quick look at that, and its in this format: c:\DOCSTORAGE\ServerName\SIMS2005\sims Should be simple enough to update. .
-
Well we're pre-Autumn release at the moment. I plan on applying that release later this week, then sometime in the next few months migrate the database to a new server.
-
Set your connect.ini on the server to point at the full UNC path to your connect.ini on the sims server. .

Hi, Im pondering the idea of migrating the SQL Database on our Sims server to our newly made SQL2008 Enterprise server (that already runs 3 other light SQL Databases). As far as understanding goes, its simple a case of detaching the database from the sims server, moving it to the new server, reattaching it, then changing the database location in the connect.ini files. Has anyone else done this? Or are planning it? Thanks in advance all. .

Hi. Has anyone got any idea why the P2V conversion of our Print Server is going a little strange? Its basically running very very slowly. Its a strange one, as our other conversions of our SCCM server & our IIS have gone fine...? Any ideas? Thanks in advance all. .

Staging areas were set to 16Gb, still no better. Took just as long, just didnt see as many staging area size warnings in the logs.

All of VMWares stuff works very nicely with HP stuff. Two reasons as to why: 1) Its says on their site. 2) The conference i was at the other day with HP/VMWare heavily advertises the 'link' that the two companies and their products have. .

How do i set one of the servers as prefered?
-
So, in theory, you could have everything (profiles, homes, ect; ) replicated on two servers for fail over with this method? Is it tested?

Hi. Im having nothing but a faff with DFS at the moment. Last summer we installed a new network for here, the file server of such, was running 2003 Storage Server R2. We setup everything at the time to use DFS namespaces so we could very easily in future expand. Anyway, we just got a new file server, have setup the paths, replication, ect; But were find that some things are replicating, some arnt, some say that theyre stuck on initial replication and other have finished. Before i go ahead and scrap the secondary DFS targets on the new file server until ive figured it out, would anyone like to tell me what ive missed? lol. Thanks in advance all.

Just thought it was odd, as i didnt have to with v3.5... Anyway, found the licence stuff on their website, bit of a sod to find! lol. So, for virtualising a few of our lighter servers (IIS, Print, AV, ect; ) + some test beds, will the following suffice? Think i already know the answer: 2x Quad Core Xeon E5410 @2.33Ghz 32Gb RAM 2x PCI-E teamed Gig (VM Network, VMKernal, Service Console) 1x PCI-E Gig NIC (un-used at the moment) 137Gb internal SAS 100Gb iSCSi target 300Gb iSCSI target If it turns out to be successful, i think i'll look into converting our spare blade into an ESXi server as well and look into ways to cluster it all for failover.
-
Ive just replaced our test install of ESXi 3.5 with ESX4 (the supposid evaluation version) & Infrastructure with the vSphere client so i can manage it, but im having problems with two things: 1) v3.5 allowed me to stick in a 'free licence' immediately to remove all of the trial stuff and leave me with the base version. I cant see where to apply for the licence in 4? 2) Why do i now need to create a seperate VMKernal just to use iSCSI? and as a result, use another IP...? Thanks in advance all.
-
Thanks. I'll have a look at that when im done. Heres hoping it works!

Hi. Im just in the process of documenting our network here, and theres ALOT of parts to it, all in different programs. Does anyone know of a way to do these two things 1) Print all 61 files (pdfs, visio, excel, word, publisher, ect; ) into one large PDF file? 2) In regards to the word files, does anyone know how i can 'globally' apply a font/size/formatting type thing to all the word files so they all look the same? Thanks in advance all. .

Morning! . Event logs say nout. They are part of the remote desktop users group. Ive managed to get it mostly working now. At least enough to do what i wanted to do. Only problem now, is that its now happening to the sims server as well.
-
We have our printers in its own policy. Few hours. Well thats let me log on, now i just need to work out why it wont let NOD32 wriote to the programdata area during install...
-
Are the other DNS servers specified in DHCP for the clients?
-
Hi. Im having a few problems with remote desktop and our 2008 based IIS server. Basically, unless i log in as the local admin, any other account seems to either stall on the 'welcome' part of the login, or the 'processing printers policy' one. Which is very very strange as there are no printer policys applied to either the user im testing with nor the OU that the server is in. Im just running Windows Update on it now and updating it with 22 updates, see it that make a difference. Anyone got any ideas? Thanks in advance all. .

So with the blade in question having just a few small HDDs, that wont be an issue, but lets say for example i tie it into our SAN with iSCSI, i just format the iSCSI volume with bigger block sizes to get around that 'issue' then? Next question, have a new VM, how do i get the new VM to see its HDD? lol. Ive set the VM to boot off an ISO of an XP install CD and it doesnt want to see the HDD. And how again, in detail, do i import the VM files off my old VMware installation to the new ESXi one then? Thanks in advance again everyone, the info is very much appriciated.
